  • Chevy Silverado Misfire , Dirty Injector ,.This 1999 Chevy Silverado was running badly and had a misfire. The Chevy Silverado hooked up to the Scanner showed a misfire on number eight cylinder .The 5.3 in the chevy Silverado is easy to switch ignition coil and plug wire with another cylinder. After swapping two coils the misfire stayed the same, so i pulled the number eight and number six spark plugs , done a compression check on those two cylinders and then swapped the spark plugs. Still no change and compression was same on both cylinders. Then i pulled number eight fuel injector and cleaned it . After cleaning the injectors the Chevy Silverado truck runs like new.

      Exactly,you need to back flush them?I have been servicing Injectors for 15 plus yrs using ultrasound and a flow bench to confirm the before and after diagnosis. On car chemical cleaners are little better than 'snake oil' and at best should be treated as such.Olefins in gasoline is the biggest problem with Injectors and cannot be removed completely by Injector cleaners.

    Excellent diagnostic/explanation. Same truck here, same code on #5. Will do coil/wire swap test first. Also spark plug swap. Maybe ohms resistance comparison on the plug wires too. My Elm327 program not have single injector fire control so I thought rig an extra injector plug with 12vDC & momentary switch. Test injector for electric function(click sound) and fuel pressure change when tapping the switch. Use this rig to intermittently open removed injector valve for cleaning too. One important thing is depressurize fuel rail before disconnecting by removing fuel pump relay from fuse box then run engine until it dies.

      @wtbm123  Před 3 lety

      07 is prob a DOD engine . They have a lot of issues . A lot of times a solenoid leaks in the valley pan cover and that makes the lifter fail . Sometimes a pin in the lifter fails . . Sometimes you can change the lifter and the plate covering the valley and be ok . but sometimes the faulty lifter ruins the cam also . . To remove the lifter you need to remove the head . Some people will put a small rod down on the stuck lifter and smack it to try and free it , but when i have done that it does not take long for it to fail again . also there is a screen under the oil sending unit that gets plugged and causes oil pressure to lifter issues . I have a video Brown Line Metalworks Digital Angle Gauge , For those Torque to Yield Bolts where was putting a head back on after changing the lifters . I tried to film the process of changing the lifter but the video got corrupted on my camera card and lost the footage . I hope yours is just a dirty injector

      @anonymous If there is a known good injector , you need to see if reference voltage is going to injector , They get that power from the same color wire , Sometimes there is a bad connection in the connector at injector . The other wire is the signal , and you really need a scope or something to see it . You would back probe at injector and then at the connector on computer , can get a pin out to see which wire it is on connector or by wire color . if no scope , can test signal wire from injector to computer connector , with ohms meter to see if broke . But need power to injector and a good signal wire from injector to computer , pcm . PCM open and closes the circuit .

      @anonymous mines kinda doing a similar thing but it’s knocking out the exhaust it’s got spark it’s a new plug a new wire and coil their is no knock in the engine bay it sounds just like small tick noise it doesn’t sound like a lifter tick and after a while I loose all fuel pressure it dies down When I put it in drive or any gear it just dies I thought it was a vacuum leak but untill it gets to temp it don’t start doing it I think I have it pinned to a number 8 injector if you had the same noise then I’ve found my problem.

      ***** Get a better scanner . lol . there are code readers , then scanners with codes and live data , then there are scanners that do codes, live data and bi directional tools. the bi directional tools let you interact with car . for testing injectors and doing balance test there are tools like OTC 3398 Fuel Injection Pulse Tester for around $125

    When finding a plugged injector,consider sending all of them out for service and flow testing They are all running in the same fuel and conditions. Would a quality repair be to change one spark plug?

    • @wtbm123
      @wtbm123  Před 3 lety

      Well a lot depends on what the customer pays for and a injector balance test and ohms test can tell you a lot about the injector . Not a flow test but can tell you mostly what you need

    Thank you for the video. I have a misfire code on one of the cylinders. After doing various diagnoses, it has been definitely determined that the issue is with a bad ground wire on the fuel injector connector on the cylinder with the misfire code.
    I replaced the entire ground wire for that cylinder with the misfire code from the fuel injector connector all the way to the ECM just to be sure, even though I didn't even see a broken or chewed up wire. This didn't resolve the issue.
    The car has a V6 cylinder and I also diagnosed the other 5 fuel injector connectors. The ground wires for all those 5 fuel injector connectors are fine.
    Since replacing the ground wire didn't resolve the issue, is there anything you can suggest I try out at this point?
    For the time being, as an alternative method, I decided to splice and share the functional ground wire from the adjacent cylinder. In other words, I now have two fuel injector connectors sharing the same ground wire. This method has worked and has resolved the misfire issue. However, my concern is if this method is an acceptable resolution or is there any type of downside or hazard this could cause? Thank you!

      It depends if the injector is ground wire controlled or power wire controlled, or 3 wire I guess. I would assume since the misfire was corrected it’s a suitable repair.

    • @Zeberka767
      @Zeberka767 Před 4 lety

      @@themaxee08 I have discovered that the injector is ground wire controlled. So, what does that mean in the context of my situation? Btw, even though the check engine light for the misfire code has not been triggered and the symptoms of a misfire haven't emerged as a result of sharing one ground wire with two injectors, the car tremendously lacks power. It's like the car is incapable of going past 40 mph and when it comes to even a moderate incline road, then it's pretty much hopeless. Hence, it appears that driving this car with just 5 cylinders is somehow a better option despite the misfire that will be present. Btw, this a V6 cylinder.

      Could be a vacuum leak , could be injector , or even something in the valve train .Depending on what the live data on a scan tool says , but i might start by checking for vacuum leaks , then maybe a fuel injector balance test . Usually fuel pressure its self does not affect certain cylinders , but would check fuel pressure just to verify it was all good .

      Unless it is a newer AFM engine . only real way of knowing is with a diagnostic computer . How do you know it is mostly 5 on a random misfire code . unless you have some way of seeing misfire data. Usually one coil will set a misfire per cylinder code . Like if coil bad on #5 think it may set a p0305 . A p0300 is usually more than one cylinder , but has to have so many in a cylinder to set a cylinder code . and a coil should only pick on one cylinder. Maybe a vacuum leak , lazy 02 sensor, Dirty injector, . A injector balance test may tell a lot.

      Sheila Bruno Some times you need a scanner to move the throttle unless running . Spark plugs could make it not start , but prob not the reduced power . A lot of times it is throttle body related .Is the throttle body clean inside . One would need to hook it to a scan tool and see the data to know for sure . may be a few test you can do with out a scan tool . One could remove a few spark plugs and look at them .
