Has the Maserati Levante Diesel Been Overlooked?

  • The Maserati Levante Diesel features as the next car in my video series with Pendle Leasing, taking a look at cars that are slightly more obtainable and in this case for a luxury upmarket SUV.
    To collect the Levante, I head out to HR Owen Maserati in St Albans, where the 275PS/600Nm diesel car is awaiting me. The Levante S has more recently become available for order in the UK but for the time being this has been the only available option, and it's one that comes with some very solid leasing options and some special offers that you can see here: www.pendlelease.co.uk/shmee150
    The Levante itself introduces the Maserati style and luxury to a new price point starting at £56,000 for the diesel. In this video we take a good look around the practicalities of the car before going for a test drive to experience what it's like for an initial impression.
    If you're interested to know more about leasing in general, take a look at: www.pendlelease.co.uk and give Pendle a follow on Facebook: / pendlevehicle.contracts
    Thanks for watching, Tim

    I don't understand why there's so much hate going on about this car! Why do we somehow justify Porsche for making the Cayenne and everyone else is eating hate being expressed with the words "the Cayenne copycat"? If that's the recipe for success (practical, quality cars!) then we shouldn't mind! The Levante is what a Cayenne is in the Porsche line-up: a car for people who think a GranTurismo is impractical and a Ghibli is too understated! Stop being preoccupied and badge-dependent and learn how to judge properly! We already misjudge people!

    • @platinumguitar
      @platinumguitar Před 7 lety +6

      Because it's a cash cow. It's meant to JUST make them money. Fiat is misusing the Maserati badge and name in an attempt to push out less than mediocre cars, at a high price level, and sell people on the fact that they have a Maserati-badge.

    • @McBeamer94
      @McBeamer94 Před 7 lety +4

      +Automotive Joy Yeah, that was about 30-35 years ago. And Maser was under some Argentinian man's ownership, after Citroen bankrupt. To be honest, I just don't see something bad with the latest Maseratis (except only for the ''Ghibli'' name misuse! The GranTurismo should've been called the Ghibli!)! Looks, check! Quality, check! Technology, check! Good engines, check! Competitive prices, check!

    • @platinumguitar
      @platinumguitar Před 7 lety +2

      Not gonna discuss looks as it's always subjective. I find it reminiscent of a Qashqai more than anything else. Quality however can be discussed. It's full of switchgear from ancient Dodges. The window controls for a starter are straight out of a Dodge Dart. There's no justifying that in a car in this segment. Which tech do you speak of? The ancient infotainment system? It sounds great though.

    • @hugos2475
      @hugos2475 Před 7 lety +4

      Yea that is very true. The Porsche Cayenne is built on a platform shared by the brilliant Q7 and the Bentayga aswell. The infotainment in the Cayenne is spot on, overall materials are great. It is very German. This Pile of shit is owned by Fiat which are owned by Chrysler and they make the worst cancerous shit the universe has ever seen. My foot is a more useful infotainment. I mean, we can all agree that the carbon inside is tachy as fuck.
      And oh! Forgot to mension the depreciation

    It is overlooked and should be. I understand that Maserati is breaking out of its traditional italian luxury sports petrol cars, to sell to a broader market in Asia, to survive as a brand. But, these cars will never hold their value nor contribute into the image Maserati has built over the years. So i dont see any point in someone buying a diesel Maserati, other than the name, when you can buy a much better actual german diesel rather than this german wannabe.

    • @musicfanIV
      @musicfanIV Před 7 lety +4

      and as shmee him self said, its not the fastest not the best...but, but its just an ok alternative to an x5 with a Maserati badge, a premium and worst reliability

    • @MrEugenio1994
      @MrEugenio1994 Před 7 lety

      musicfanIV, it's not like Maserati is denying you to buy the petrol engine. except for those countries where it was impossible to import it, in that case head towards your parliament.

    • @danI43541
      @danI43541 Před 7 lety

      musicfanIV the diesel isn't the problem at all, the asians don't drive them anyways but the cars just aren't good! The Stelvio is better than this car

    • @musicfanIV
      @musicfanIV Před 7 lety +1

      danI43541 the diesels are part of the problem. They kinda dilute the image of Maserati. And Maserati s always had problems but their problems was their flare, their personality, their temperament...
      With the shift to a more wide target market with the addition of these diesel's, they've in many cases lost the badge essence. Italian cars where never practical nor perfect but their imperfections made them desirable

      Still, it is a cheap Chrysler under the body. The Touch Control Plus is the exact same system as in Dodge RAM and other FCA cars. I know it looks better in Maserati, and it was cheaper to use what they already had, but still, this car is not a cheap car and even VAG cars have different - looking media systems depending on the manufacturer. What Maserati should do, is move form Chrysler's technogoly to Alfa Romeo's technology

      g00dfeeling with all due respect it sounds like you may have a fanboy attitude. What I mean is you appear to go entirely by the badge instead of the quality of the car. I like the Maserati brand, but so far their products aren't giving me much interest. At first I love all of their products due to their prestige logo and flair, yet most of their models had stayed constantly the same since I was a young boy. Their Granturismo was by far my dream car. However, they fail to upgrade it ever since a decade ago especially the interior. As my second car, I chose to go for the Porsche brand. Hopefully in the future Maserati will innovate their products that will enhance their sportiness and attain their full potential that exceeds German and British sport brands.

    in other words, lease it because it'll depreciate like a mofo

    This is basically a Jeep Grand Cherokee in an Italian suit. Remember, both are FCA vehicles.
    Maserati Levante £56,250 vs Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd £47,580.
    Save the extra $, and buy the Jeep. It'll (probably) depreciate less and be cheaper to service.
    Note: I'm not saying there's anything wrong with Jeeps (well, they've had reliability issues, but never mind that). I'm saying a Maserati should be MUCH more unique to it's FCA brethren.

      Bob808 do you know the meaning of downmarket strategy? this is a pure Maserati, FCA is a group, it has nothing to do with its brands, except to share already-approved best-in-class parts between them.
      the jeeps are cheaper because italian workers get payed decent wage, differently.

      Bob808 you would pay 48k for a jeep but are too cheap to pay 56k for a Maserati that's the same size but more powerful and luxurious and attractive....??

      Willy Willy: I guess I am too cheap, or simply Australian... let me explain. I just checked insurance premiums for both vehicles here in Aus, $5150 for the Maserati, $1920 for the Jeep. Not to mention the HUGE price difference ($197,000 Maserati vs $93,000 Jeep) So for a vehicle that is (essentially) a daily run about, with the same drivetrain and electronics, I would chose the cheaper option.

    Maserati is an amazing brand that needs more respect. All these haters in the comments need to look at the car in a different perspective.

    Cool looking car but not to fussed about the interior especially with all the Chrysler parts that everyone complains about. I'd rather buy a 4.4 V8 diesel Range Rover Sport
