  • After blowing a ton of money, finally figured out why my car was driving like crap. In the process, I replaced: pcv valve, plenum gasket, 02 sensors, cats, cleaned throttle body, cleaned maf, cam position sensors, spark plugs, coil packs, and engine harness. At last, it all turned out to be the ECM!!

    Hey everyone! So I watched this video in the past. I noticed that a lot of people were asking the same question "does anyone know what the problem could be?" well I went out and bought a $750 code reader and found out that the issues going on here may be that you have a leak in your airline or you need a tune up, if you had one done and it started after you did the tune up, check spark plugs and the coil packs. Mine was actually the 2 cylinder coil pack and it needed the admissions cleaned out as well. All this cost me $178 and some change! I would have done it myself, but with my nerve damage in my hands and arms. I can only do so much now. Anyways first check your air lines, make sure there are no leaks. Also have your coil packs spark plugs admissions checked out first! It could also be a bad fuel filter and that can get a little costly. If you have the money, go out and invest in a really nice, good quality code reader. Mine will actually tell you the code and the issues in detail. It will even tell you how much parts are going to run. But yeah check those that I listed here and hopefully this will help some of you with your issues. I really do hope this helps!     hi i got a 2003 350z with mod and i moved it this winter and the car went on 5 cylinder a couple of time but was going back on 6, started the car back yesterday and now its on 5 cylinder again but no code no check engine light on so where to start thanks

    If it was a bad ecm would you get a check engine light? I have an 04 G 6 speed. It idles like shit but it drives fine. Poor gas mileage too. Changed plugs, did a full fuel system service. Seems like the idle relearn makes it worse. But no codes or check engine light. I’m stumped

    I have big throttle nwp and motordyne arts also jwt pop charger and z tube and plenum spacer my idle after the throttle body install ( last upgrade to date) the idles been at 1k and sometimes drops and kinda sputters but still can hit highway speeds np . I guess its all those mods or something else? Needs a tune?

    I’m having similar issues with my 03 coupe g35 and also have both banks 02 sensors on high voltage.
    I test continuity and Oms and they’re on spec.
    I test the voltage coming through the sensors and is good as well.
    The only thing I’m not sure is the ecm signal spec for this car, right now is reading only 0.795 volts on both banks.
    I’m gona try to download the manual for this car as you did and see if I can determine what’s going on with my car.
    I’m suspecting that the ecu is the issue but I need to make sure.

      @@vqgav7680 it turn out to be the bank one down stream o2 sensor, it was corrode and not making any contact or working as it should.
      It was crazy when I found out that shit.

    I have a 2007 Infiniti g35 and I just got my spark plugs changed and it started misfiring the check engine came on checked it and it shows my maf sensor it drives fine but once I turn it on the idle drops and turns off it barely stays on the second time I go and start it should I replace the maf sensors?

    Help. Mines doing the same thing. I have a 04 350z and mines a manual idk if yours is but I have the same hesitation in the same rpm ranges. What I want to know is if your car was throwing a slip warning like you were doing donuts cause mine does and when I turn the trac control off it still hesitates and sputters

    I'm getting code PO300 Random cylinder misfire. Changed the plugs and coils and the rough idle persists with the CEL flashing when I drive it. Could that mean the ecu is bad? This problem seemed to come out of nowhere.

      @@sammoe8702 I have cleaned the MAF sensor and throttle body too...nothing. Next step is the Nissan dealership and you know how that goes. I haven't checked compression and if it's bad rings I'm done with it.

      @@sammoe8702 Sam, today I pulled the connectors one by one to see if the idle changed. It didn't but when I scanned it again it read P0305, cylinder 5 misfire along with the P0300. I pulled that coil and re-started the engine and it ran the same. That told me something key, that it was MISFIRE randomly, not misfires on all six cylinders. I made sure that I torqued the plug into the cylinder head to specs and voila!, problem solved!. Make sure that there is positive contact with the coil and plugs and that the plugs are torqued properly into the head, not just screwed in.

      @@sammoe8702 Everything was back together instead of the Infiniti cover of the plenum. I simply pulled the coil pack connectors one by one. Once I saw that the engine still ran after I completely removed the #5 coil pack, I re scanned and found the 305 code. If you didn't, make sure you torque the plugs correctly.

    Will the car start if you put in a new ECM without getting the keys coded? Did you need to do any other programming or re-learns?

      it wont start without programming unless the ecm has the NATS bypassed. The one i purchased had it bypassed so it worked with my existing key

    Great video man I have exact same year exact same car coupe same color I've done a lot of work on my own and I'm not even a mechanic. Is the fixer upper I put a lot of time of money into it right now I got to get a knocker sensor replaced. When I got mine the radiator was free floating with zip ties LOL along with a bunch of other stuff with zip ties even the motor guard underneath was held with screws bolts all kinds of stuff cuz when I got down there and looked the bumper was busted off with a lip on the bumper meets the under guard which was made of plastic LOL and it had metal added to it so it would reach the lip of the bumper it was a mess. I've replaced both bumpers with black had the car pulled all way down to the police bought a new radiator about a new fan placed all that. But a Z1 spacer among other things. I replaced the oil pan. When I got it was a mess up but I got it pretty cheap. That's just the name of a few things I've done to it LOL but I love it I love my car! Keep up the great videos Man!!! Quick question if anybody has an answer I have an alarm and everything on my car and then one day it just stopped working the key entry lock one locked doors unlocked doors wouldn't set my alarm so I went out and I got a another and I know how to do it to set the key entry to the car the new one but when I get halfway through it the second half the hazard doesn't go off like it's supposed to if anybody understands this don't know what I'm talking about first steps is turn the ignition 10 to 12 times until you see the hazard and then turn it to accessories and it has it supposed to blink but it doesn't do that anybody have any opinions greatly appreciate it

    Have the same issue, except my G runs on ProEFI but piggy backs off the ECM. I had Addicted Performance in Maryville, TN tuning my car and they shorted my ECM and just said "Yeah, we can't get your CEL to go off, its just going to be like that now" Worst shop ever.

    Im have the same issue on my 2004 350z I changed spark plugs checked my coils replaced the fuel pump I was running 87 pump gas switch as soon as I got the fuel pump to 91 bogging still happening 2800 3k 31k boggs and after going higher then that car keeps going don’t know what it is I think I’m going to try changing the ecm

      try to test the ecm relay first. It sits in those relays behind the battery. If the relay is good, then it's probably the ecm itself

    ECM is sensitive. It can fry components if you disconnect sensors , parts while battery is connected. I get Air Fuel Ratio (A/F) Sensor 1 bank 1 and can’t remove it. Changed everything and checked for leaks. None.

    You should have checked the relay box check the ecm relay next to the battery that should have fixed the issue instead of getting a new ecm.

      I did check the relay next to the battery. I tested the relay and it was working properly. I applied the voltage and it clicked. Relay wasn't the issue. I tested everything the service manual told me to test, all continuity and voltage. It was the ecm

    My 2004 g35 coupe was having a rough idle and while driving it I felt a vibration from the engine and it died and wouldn’t turn on had to get it towed home. It feels like it has a misfire I replaced spark plugs, throttle body, replaced camshafts bank 1 & 2 sensor, crankshaft sensor all fluids replaced, car has a lost of power think it could be the ecm?

      Didn’t get anything pulled up with a ob2 Scanner. It was idling rough felt like it was vibrating gauges wasn’t working right before it stalled

      Mine was acting the same way I change O2 sensors clean throttle bodies air filters And for no reason eat a goal from 800 RPMs 2000 didn’t matter what type of miles ahead on the odometer I’ll reset it by taking a battery post off wait 30 seconds put it back on turn the car on they need to be a fine idle at 800 again and after several miles for a couple days it’ll go back up to 1000 while driving all along it was a bad PCV VALVE Since I change that my car been running on a smooth idle ever cents.

      jamar clark ECM is like the computer/ecu. It stands for Engine Control Module. It’s in the passenger kick panel, by the floor. If I remember correctly, it’s only held on by 2-4 screws and it unplugs from harness.

      no it wasnt smoking at all. youre getting a misfire code. remove the spark plugs and inspect them make sure theyre not wet. maybe youre burning oil or something.

      @@michaelm.a.4541 Check the valve cover ie Spark Plug gaskets, Intake tube for ie, ALL vacuum leaks with carb cleaner...all the simple stuff first! SAVE $$$$ hahaha 😎 May need a new Driver/Passenger side, valve cover assembly! Its best to diagnose than to be a professional parts installer. Have a nice day!

    Hey man I have an 04 g, it started misfiring on cylinder 5 and said it was running lean. I changed coil packs and spark plugs and the idle is stupid rough, it’s idling at around 550 and is sputtering and feel like it’s gonna die. Don’t know what else I should do...

      check the resistance on your injectors. If its giving you a specific cylinder, its for a reason. try also doing a compression test on your cylinders

      @@bransykora4462 its going to cost you. I rather troubleshoot first before you go spending hundreds of dollars. Try doing the compression test first. A tester at autozone is like 20-30 bucks.

      If it’s a misfire, the check engine light will blink as it’s happening (as you’re driving).

      @@tjgotbands if you don’t have a scanner I would recommend you go to an autozone. They’ll hook up a scanner and print out the codes for free. There you’ll see which cylinder is misfiring, and then you can trouble shoot to see if it’s the coil/spark plug/injector

    I've had a similar issue for quite a while now, I've done everything. Changed a lot of stuff. Last code I got was mass air flow low idle bank A or something of that sort. Under my hood right now, just changed maf sensor. Same issue. When I rev, idle drops very low and shuts the car off. Feels like I have no power when I try to take off. I also have a Up-Rev tune from Fever Racing

      Damn, that’s a long time ago. …. p0300 is a misfiring code, I didn’t get that. My clutch was burnt out so it was taking a while to engage, causing the idle to fluctuate between stops and take offs.

      P0152 INFINITI Possible Causes:
      -Faulty Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 2
      -Intake air leaks may be faulty
      - Exhaust gas leaks
      - Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 2 harness is open or shorted
      -Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 2 circuit poor electrical connection
      -Inappropriate fuel pressure
      -Faulty fuel injectors

      so i got my ecu i undid my negative termonal on my battery i put a stock new ecu on now it woll crank and not start

      William Coleman the key is going to need to be programmed. The used ecu I got had the NATS system deleted so it didn’t require re-programming on the key.

    Bro my car is hesitating on idle I changed the coil packs and spark plugs and changed the catalytic converters and changed my beat up air intake! I still get this problem it happens when the car is on drive but I’m holding down the breaks I hear it hesitate when I’m driving the car is fine( anyone please help me i own a 06 g35 coupe)

    I have issue almost one year with my 350z 2008 Vq35hr automatic 151000 Km 100% stock which is the rpm is dropping for a moment and only after warmed up , nothing when it’s cold
    Like the car about to switch off but it’s not , that only happening only when I start to move after signal or turning ( only happening with slow acceleration) ,then no any problems while I am driving
    This is happening while I am driving and also when It is parking, or natural moods , so I don’t believe it’s transmission issue
    Replaced
    Spark plugs, coils , throttle bodies , cam shift sensors, air filter and no air , coolant, oil leak outside the engine , compression test is fine as per Nissan dealer

    oil pressure is cold start around 75 and after warming up around 10-12 , I know maybe gallery gasket needs replace
    The area that I am leaving almost there are no real experts garages
    This issue has been solved two times , both after I replace all above
    First time I went to garage who was working in Nissan dealer in dubai after all replace parts
    Then he started to remove the air intakes manifold and just kept cleaning everything under the air intakes manifold ( the black box ) which is on the engine , cleaned all filters and most of sensors as I believe and applied tap on the air intakes pipes since it was very little cracked near the throttle bodies seals , then the car absolutely been perfect for three months , opd scan with no single fault
    I have been asking The mechanic what he did and what is the problem and he has no any idea even they changed me normal service
    Then one day The alternator gone and needed to be replaced, I ordered and replaced , the mechanic unplugged the battery for whole night then after the alternator replacement when I got back the car the issue came back that little hesitation at 1k rpm after warming
    Second time after I did exhaust valve timing procedure it’s has been better but I still can feel the issue but not like before
    Car sometimes on low speed and gear give me very very very simple small hesitation around 2k rpm but I can feel it little

      Try idle relearn, maybe that can help the idle. There’s a few videos here on CZcams that show how to reset your idle.

      Placebo Effect not bad at all, it’s in the passenger foot well, and only takes like 3-4 bolts. I bought it on the vq facebook group

      Michael M.A. okay. I have an 03 coupe and it needs a ton of throttle to move but once it goes it does pretty well but it’s very noticeable that it isn’t using all of its power. I’m wondering if this is similar to what you experienced

    Idk wassup with my g but the other day I was driving n outta the nowhere when I press the gas instead of going faster it was like I was braking n the rpms didn't go up n it sounded like I had a launch control system 😂

    Is it the ecm or the pcm?....r u talking about the piece that's under the hood...if it's the computer then it's an ECU...not ecm

      @@michaelm.a.4541 I have a 09 370z...has been sputtering at low rpm for the last 5 months...I have done everything as far as the simple shit goes such as cleaning maf sensors....throttle bodies..new plugs....90% of the time the car runs like a dream and there is some days where it hates it's life and can't get out of its own way.... unfortunately the ecm for my car is expensive and I'm also tuned ...so if I got another one it's gonna cost me big bucks.. 😞..once ur car started running rough didn't even come out of it like mine does...it's been doing it for 5 months now

    Good luck! You won't think it's so beautiful when you have to keep fixing shit on it all the fucking time! I am ready to sale mine! I have talked to many others who had these type of cars who have had the same issues. They will run here and there for a while without issues, but in the end it will crap out cause its made BY NISSAN!!!
