@@rthoc71 looks like my reply earlier didn't save, yeah when I told Ross and Tina originally I only knew of the cherry bakewell one, they're easily found on ebay but not cheap
Have you tried them all? The pudding flavors sound interesting.
@@FinnLovesFood only the original and chocolate a couple of decades ago, as I say they tend to do my teeth in, I'm interested in the tablet sweets though if they weren't so expensive or having to import the Asian equivalent
I live in the USA and I grew up drinking Ovaltine. It was chocolate and delicious served hot or cold.
So far we've only tried it hot.
Ltd ed,
Cherry Bakewell
Apple Pie
Banoffee
Chocolate
Light like diet
Original
Do in sachets too
Hi Steve, Happy Tuesday! Ahhh Cherry Bakewells are awesome! :)
Horlicks! I've heard of it, but never tried. I collect episodes of old radio shows, and the "Lum and Abner" show was sponsored by Horlicks and every time I listen I wish I could try it! I've never seen it for sale but maybe I'll get some online someday!
Hi David! Very cool about collecting old radio shows, Ross thought about doing that as well. I think you can get saved recordings saved as MP3 files on USB drives available on ebay. If you try Horlicks, please let us know what you think, a hot cup is perfect on a cold day :) Happy Tuesday!
@@FinnLovesFood i sure will, I think Amazon sells Horlicks but as I recall it was a bit pricey for me. Funny thing, modern commercials don't affect me at all, but if I listen to The Jack Benny Program I start craving Jello, and Charlie McCarthy makes me want Chase and Sandborn Coffee!
I like all the things you have.
Hi there and Happy Tuesday! Thank you for watching, we enjoyed everything, no complaints :)
I used to eat spoonfuls of dry ovaltine
Hi Dina, Happy Tuesday! Ross here, I can't believe I'm about to confess this...but....I actually did the same thing as a kid (once in a while) with dry Quik chocolate powder. :)
Of topic, I just had a terrys chocolate orange mint flavour. It's nice a bit like a aero mint bar.
We still have one to try that Richard sent. We both like mint and chocolate so suspect we'll like this too.
Never tried the Horlicks. I've had the Ovaltine years ago but they did used to have a chocolatey Ovaltine which I preferred. Definitely great choices after a nice hot bath and before bed!
Hi Karen! If you have a chance to try Horlicks, please let us know what you think and how you would compare it to Ovaltine. Completely agree about having it before bed, that's how we've tried it so far :) Happy Tuesday! :)
I now have the “we are the Ovaltiney’s” song in my brain…… I’m trying to be a “happy girl” but when you have a song “earworm”…. 😖😖😖😖😊
We are the ovalteenies little boys and girls. I mean I wasn't around at that point in time yet it pops into my head every time ovaltine is mentioned
@@Nick_Jarrett my mum used to sing it to me when I was little 😪😪 sad but happy memories 😢
Ross looked up the song on YT. Now we'll be stuck with it!
Hi both. I am not a horlicks fan but the kitkats chunky are fab. Haven't tried the ovaltine i don't think. More of a tea, coffee and hot choc person.
Hope you are well. On day two of a bad throat so losing my voice. Not sore but dry and got a raspy/croaky voice when i talk. Lol.
My 2nd PO is tomorrow so will update you all. I can say though is i did a lot last week so resting this week. Have walked without the crutches over the weekend.
Love to you both and finn of course. Leon 🇬🇧 xx
Hi Leon, glad you're getting some rest. Sounds like great progress walking without crutches and hope your appointment goes well.
They are comforting drinks, either for before bed, or if you are feeling under the weather.
Good for the ol' throat when you have a cold or something
@@Nick_Jarrett If it's a cold don't forget to add the magic ingredient. A nip or more of Brandy. 😁
We found the Horlicks especially relaxing and comforting.
Actually safer cutting with a larger knife!!!!!
Palm can cross point of blade without finger tips being close!!!
Hi Steve! Thank you for the safety tip, so far we haven't had any choco cutting accidents but we'll keep the larger knife in mind for the next video. Happy Tuesday and thank you for watching :)
@@FinnLovesFood 👍
I remember when I was a kid and used to get Horlicks in a cafe made with steaming hot milk that gave it a big frothy top and ovaltine a very nice drink, KitKats are still one of my favourites but I prefer the normal ones to the chunky ones, nice afternoon snacks
HI Michael, oh bet that was good with the steamed milk. Hope your week is going well.
If it makes it better you can always put a spooon or two of sugar into the drinks. They are also good for coming in out of the cold.
It's cool and rainy tonight so might be a good night for one.
been looking forward to this, nice mug of ovaltine this time of year
Yes, great for the cold weather!
A lot of people have them when they have a cold. Because that's what our mother's gave us.
@@neilgayleard3842 seems mom always avoided milk products for colds due to increased congestion. It's usually when the tea came out!
They are both good bedtime drinks but I prefer Horlicks. I bought some Ovaltine recently and was disappointed. It may say original but seems much blander than I remember it from many many years ago. The Horlicks taste is similar to the centre of Maltesers. As a child at heart, I mix a large quantity of both those powders, not together, with a small amount of milk, into a paste. I love it.
Hi Ron, Thanks for watching! Love it before bed, and like you, we're leaning more towards the Horlicks but appreciate both. How you had it years ago, do you recall if it was sweeter, had more of a chocolate flavour to it? Ah childhood memories :) We both had chocolate Quik powder mix as kids, Ross confesses to makine the milk paste with it :)
@@FinnLovesFood Hi Tina, I don't remember it being sweet and I don't think it had a chocolate flavour. It was unique and had a much stronger taste. Perhaps my memory is failing me at 77 but I don't think so. I was staying at my sister's and mentioned Ovaltine. She couldn't recall ever having it so I bought her some. Even here in the UK, it is expensive. Unfortunately, we were both disappointed. I suspect that over decades some of the more expensive ingredients, that gave it that unique taste, were reduced or replaced. I can imagine Ross making that paste.
@@RonSeymour1 unfortunately sometimes things don't change for the better.
Horlicks was always my preference over ovaltine.
That seems to be our preference too.
Great Video guys. I loved Horlicks as a kid. Top tip.. If u have a normal size kitkat and a bag of hoola hoops, break a piece off and put inside a hoola hoop. Taste sensation 😊
Hi Scotty! Thank you for the kind compliment and thank you for watching :) Do you still drink Horlicks now? If we had Horlicks easily available here, we would get it on a weekly basis. Hoola Hoops and Kit Kats, now that's a combo we haven't thought of :) We'll keep that one in mind the next time we come across Hoola Hoops, Happy Tuesday! :)
@@FinnLovesFood No i haven't had Horlicks in years i might have to get some 😋👍
I love white chocolate, Will always pick it over milk chocolate. Also love kitkat chunky xx
Kit Kat chunky is my preference now over regular Kit Kats.
We are the Ovaltineys, little girls and boys
Make your requests, we'll not refuse you
We are here just to amuse you
Would you like a song or story?
Will you share our joys?
At games and sports we're more than keen
No merrier children could be seen
Because we all drink Ovaltine
We're happy girls and boys.
I have a friend who sings a filthy version of this song when drunk!
It seems everyone has this song etched into memory! 🙂
It must be 40 years since I drank a cup of Ovaltine and 30 since I drank a cup of Horlicks. I do hope they taste the same as they always did - notwithstanding there`s bound to be a change in my tastebuds in 40 years.
I remember going to see a GP ( Physician ) on account that my ears were deceiving me. I noticed when I was listening to Wings song "Mull of Kintyre" that the strumming of the guitar at the beginning of the song seemed out of tune. I reckoned - to the Physician - that it was likely that some of the cillia in my ears were `worn out` and as a result I could no longer receive certain frequencies in sound waves. He said to me - `you sit in my chair and allow me to sit in yours." ( Complaining about his feet ) Joking - obviously. But he said that I`d hit the nail on its head and that there was f`all he cold do about it.
Well, not precisely in those terms - but you get the idea.
I loved both Ovaltine and Horlicks.
It seems formulas often change over time, though we wouldn't know the difference!
Horlicks before bed....sleep sleep.......
💤💤
I don't know about cost plus but Ross just gave 4 good reasons why horlicks isn't in the usa yet 😂
Just watch your teeth before bed, hot sugary drinks and then sleeping really isnt healthy, brushing within 30mins of drinking sugary drinks as supposed to be bad too as the sugars weaken the enamel and then you brush making it worse, or something like that. I use mouthwash just as an easy and straight alternative
Hi Nick. I hadn't heard about waiting 30 minutes though I usually don't drink anything like that right before bed. I have heard that eating cheese is good for your teeth - no problem with that!
@@FinnLovesFood helps some people sleep too the same way milk does
@@Nick_Jarrett I might have a craving for some tonight!
Both ovaltine & horlicks both come in water version ie add hot water. Bit on weak side I prefer 2 milk ones sent u, horlicks and ovaltine my favourite is Horlicks ❤
Hi Richard, very Happy Tuesday to you! Very BIG THANK YOU for giving us the opportunity to try all both the drinks and the selection of Chunky Kit Kats, very enjoyable! Interesting, we didn't know that either drinks came in a water version - I'm guessing that would be ideal for camping, taking to work, etc, (only problem with Horlicks at work, we'd be sleeping on the job :) ). The Horlicks was really good, thank you! We're going to suggest they stock it at our Cost Plus, just had a couple hot cups Sunday night, maybe we'll have some tonight :) Very big thank you again, really appreciate it :)
@@FinnLovesFood ahh when it's chilly at night or i been out on bike in cold nice warm horlicks lovely warming I take a flask out with me on bike. It doesn't have effect send u to sleep just lovely drink to have, sure u be safe at work having horlicks I hope you are successful in getting cost plus stock it, power of your you tube channel maybe Tina Instagram? Boost americans awareness of Horlicks
@@rthoc71 we noticed that the Cadbury's and Maltesers hot chocolate are no longer at Cost Plus. Not sure if it will just be a Christmas thing. We did see a post from Touch of Britain that they have Horlicks in stock! Not sure what they're charging, but funny to see it show up after we just tried it.
@@FinnLovesFood I'd imagine they saw your un boxing video T&R u may be inavertanly giving them boost things to try. As popularity in your channel grows I'd imagine maybe some American viewers have asked touch of Britain if they stock horlicks as seen on your channel. Rest is history....
Same would apply in cost plus if word of mouth demonstrate how good product is it will appear... Like iron bru fly off shelves 💸
As u both like horlicks id go and snap jar up they might have chocolate version or water ones. If you go let me know if only milk one I will try sort out alternative for your April boxes.
Do you both have Instagram accounts? Maybe post pictures u enjoyed it how good it is that help drum up trade more places stock it.
Hi both, I don't liked there of the drinks ,AND I had a kit Kat chunky at lunchtime .just the plain kit kat as I'm NOT overly fond of some of the flavers .And I got a packet of 4 for £1-50p. Take care and all the best. 😊😊😊😊👍👍🐶🐶
Hi Shane, sounds like you got a great price on the Kit Kats. Take care!
i love ovaltine its my favourite great vid. are going live again this year😄
We plan to do another live stream...maybe next month?
I haven't had horlicks in years, but i just ordered the horlicks cherry bakewell flavour curious to see what that is like. Not tried many of the Kit Kat chunkys, i did try the peanut butter one but wasn't keen some of these flavours sound good though
Let us know what you think of the cherry bakewell flavor. It sounds good. I think I saw online that there's also a cherry bakewell ice cream flavor.
@@FinnLovesFood Oh cherry bakewell ice cream sounds delicious!
Don't know if you can still get them (i've given up on sweets due to inflation/shrinkflation), but you used to be able to get horlicks sweets (horlicks as solid chewy sweets).
That sounds good!
Hi Tina and Ross, great video as normal
Ovaltine only comes in the one malted flavour.
Horlicks is also available in chocolate as well as the original flavour. Both are available to be made with water instead of milk.
Hi Valerie. Have you had the chocolate Horlicks? Sounds good.
Yes I've had the chocolate Horlicks made with water, it's less creamy but still tasty.
A fact about the KitKat chunky..... when you take a big bite of that crisp, wafer-layered goodness, you're actually consuming broken KitKats, that were once KitKats, filled with broken KitKats, that were also once KitKats
It boggles the mind! 😆
I'm not a fan of either of the drinks but i do like malted milk biscuits and as for Kit Kats I prefer the normal 4 bars ones to the chunky's , see you soon and look after yourselves
Strange u like malted biscuits but not drink John have u tried horlicks recently? It's available in water version and milk also chocolate flavour in water option.
Lot things in life youngster use hate Asparagus only in my 30s rediscovered it loved it a lot.
Banana never liked at all, I didn't mind flavours long as not too strong John in my early years in my early 50s now can't stand it strange how tastes changed over years.
Think I'd had trip dentist in my 40s used banana based filling mix I kept wanting be sick in dentist chair. 🤮
Hi John, do you like Maltesers too? Here I am the opposite, preferring the chunky!
