As for whether or not Elvis wrote this song...he didn't. The TUNE is "Aura Lea." Elvis was going to be in a new movie (Love Me Tender), and the film's director actually wrote the lyrics to go with the old, old English tune. From what I've read, there were two takes of Elvis singing, and the second one was used in the movie. It's been famous, ever since. 😀

When I was growing up, this was one of my VERY favorite songs to sing. I sang it a lot with my dad, who also was an Elvis fan. There is a video on the Elvis Presley channel, with him actually singing with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, but it's VEVO. They always make things difficult for reactors, so...
