Has Amazon Gone Too Far This Time? (Amazon FBA UK 2024)

  • For Amazon FBA sellers, it can often feel like an uphill battle against Amazon and their continuous barrage of fee increases and website tweaks, however, has Amazon finally gone too far with these recent changes?
Amazon FBA has always been pay to play with Amazon charging fees for almost anything they can think of - referral fees, fulfilment fees, account fees, storage fees, disposal fees and more.
It has never been cheap to sell on Amazon and as an Amazon seller for over 5 years I have always been ok with paying to access their customers and fulfilment facilities.
My issue now is we are also being forced to spend a lot of money on Amazon Sponsored Ads just to have a chance of winning the sale in the first place.
It used to be possible to only use PPC / Pay Per Click during a product launch and then it could be turned off afterwards to maximise profits. Amazon now floods the search results with more sponsored listings than organic listings.
This means it is now necessary to run PPC ads full-time for almost all products. This eats into profit margins and make it harder to make money selling on Amazon.
Amazon FBA beginners should focus on finding highly profitable products (minimum 30% profit margin and 80% ROI / Return on Investment) so they have enough profit to be able to afford PPC costs.
Amazon sellers also need to learn how to set up, run and optimise Amazon Pay Per Click Sponsored adverts so they can get the best results possible from those ads.

It's like priority boarding at the airport. So many people use it it no longer is a priority service. At which point an additional level of priority is created which extra costs.
I can see Amazon introducing a multi tiered PPC service

The thing you mentioned regarding needing at least £5+ plus profit Margin in order to stay in profit using Amazon PPC is absolutely correct. I found out this the hard way trying to sell items for around £5 - if you run PPC, in order to be on the first page you will need to pay at least 45p per click, not per sale , per CLICK. This is only profitable if every customer who clicks on your item buys. if not you could potentially not even be at break even with your products, but actually at a loss. unfortunately most people at effectively slaves to Amazon, giving up there time to make Amazon money. what Amazon does is pretty Immoral, but hey, its business right
