  • This week we want to show you one of our latest premium listings, which is this 1983 Piper T Saratoga SP with fully upgraded Garmin Avionics. This is definitely one of the nicest examples of a Piper Saratoga that I've seen. In this video we take this 1983 Piper T Saratoga SP for a quick flight from Long Beach over to French Valley and shoot a GPS approach to really test how well the autopilot and avionics work together. The Piper Saratoga is a great 6-seat cross country airplane and better known as the SUV of the skies. It's a little slower than a Cessna 210, but has some other advantages.
    N43161 Piper Saratoga Specs:
    Total Time: ~4,100 hrs
    Engine Time: ~1,240 SMOH

    Brings back memories! My Turbo Saratoga was (well, still is, just not mine) a 1981 model. When I sold it, it had the Garmin 600TXi. A fantastic airplane, I loved every mile I flew in it. Whoever buys it will be very happy with it. I mostly flew at 11,000 and 12,000 and flight planned for 170 knots. I always planned for 18 g.p.h. in cruise.

    • @placidbeach
      @placidbeach Před 2 lety

      Did you run it LOP? I was always at 22 gallons per hour in my 1980.

    • @TIO540S1
      @TIO540S1 Před 2 lety +1

      @@placidbeach No, not lean of peak. It’s been gone a couple of years now but my recollection is that the POH actually showed a lower fuel consumption than 18 gph at 12,000 and 75%. Power setting wasn’t straightforward because of the intercooler that was installed. You had to take the temperature differential and adjust the manifold pressure from what the POH said. Obviously, that was done in accordance with the supplement that was a part of the STC for the intercooler. The airplane also had some of the Lopresti mods. I miss that airplane!

    Great video RIch as always. I currently have a 1980 Fixed gear Turbo Saratoga. It is a wonderful plane that my wife and I have literally flown all around the country. We did a full panel upgrade recently as well. These planes are great IFR planes especially with a glass panel and upgraded autopilot!

    Very nice video of this Piper Aircraft offering! I used to fly a 1976 Piper Cherokee Lance for a client .It dose indeed haul quite a bit of whatever one wanted. I liked the speed for it's class and the spacious cabin. The only nit pick to be found was that it was heavy on pitch. The 1983 model you feature here is real cream puff!

    Great AP. I just flew the plane they used to certify it back from TX to FL for a client. Nice to see it integrating into the G500 as well. Only real complaint with them is cooling of the engine. Always seemed to drink a little more 100ll to keep the cylinders cool. But a 1525-1550 TIT is a good target. Nice video as always. Might see you at NBAA as well.

    I’m telling you, those Saratogas can really haul a huge load. Does the wooden cargo floor come with the plane? This takes me back to the 80´s in Florida. Speed breaks are a must on these and the throttle setting is easy to get used to, just be gentle. Spot on with that touch down. Seems to be a very nice plane you got here. Thanks again for the ride.

      There is a Lopresti STC’d mod for that. The Saratoga I used to own had that mod. It looks MUCH better and helps with cooling. I had a chance to look at the airplane in this video in the hangar at OCR. I liked it a lot but was really surprised that it didn’t have built in oxygen. I flew mine mostly at 11,000 and 12,000 but many times I had it in the mid-teens and even as high as flight level 180 (its service ceiling) for favorable winds, weather, MEAs, etc. I used the oxygen quite frequently.
