    This machine used to be based in Parkes (around 15 Minutes drive from where I currently live) - Lovely old machine 🙂

      She’s a beauty! I didn’t realise it was from Parkes originally. It’s being well looked after in SA now

    Ahhhh, the "death pencil", never heard it called that name before, but it's totally accurate. I used to do a lot of travel around country SA (for work) on Kendall Airlines (back when Ansett was still a thing). My boss and I would always check what aircraft was flying the service before booking the ticket. If it was a Metroliner we'd book a different flight (on a Saab) or even fly into a different town and hire a car to get where we needed to be. Only time I ever flew on a Metroliner was a trip to Ceduna where every flight was on a Metro, and the nearest town reachable by Saab (Pt Lincoln?) wasn't drivable in a reasonable time. I remember being bent at the waist doing down the aisle, and sitting twisted on the seat the whole flight because I couldn't get my knees behind the seat in front of me. The cabin in those things was tiny!

      Sounds accurate haha. They’re a cool aircraft for sure but certainly not great for passenger comfort. Loud as hell too with those garrett engines! Lucky those SA regional flights would’ve been nice and short

    MEG is a turbo, right? So you will see a much higher TAS up high. Mine does 182 KTAS @ FL160 @ 16 GPH. Not bad for a 57 year old girl … 😎

    Original Comanche didn't have a single frame windshield

      I just looked it up. You’re correct. Interesting to see. I definitely prefer the single piece screen

    It's a shame that aircraft wasn't fitted with 200 hp engines as standard.

    Twin Comache is a great bird if flown by the numbers, but it will roll over on its back very quickly if mishandled in a engine loss.

    I don't know now days $89,000 may or may not be a bargain. May also be a plane with run out engines and steam gauges.

    • @DeadstickAdventures
      @DeadstickAdventures  Před 8 měsíci

      I believe it was around half life engines with 6/10 paint and interior. Basic IFR setup. Enough to get you into a twin but by no means a show piece

    Yeah, cheapest for a reason - called "flying coffins" by the old timers because they are grossly underpowered and can not maneuver on a single engine especially, on take off.

      160 horsepower isn't bad for a twin that small. It's probably lighter than the Duchess or Siminole with their 180 hp engines.
      And there are vortex generators that are easily installed on a number of piston planes that can help improve lift at low speeds.
