Lampard was a goal scorer, an exceptional one at that but he wasn't a player like Scholes who could control games, rarely lose the ball and also score.
Gerrard was a player who always took the game by the neck and drove his team on and also was able to score and dig Liverpool out of situations regularly. He lost it near the end of his career though.
Zidane and Ronaldinho were a lot better players than Lampard.

Well, guys like Xavi, Xabi Alonso or Zidane praise Scholes. Zidane calls him his toughest opponent, Xavi calls him a role model and the best central midfielder he has seen in the last 20 years. Patrik Viera said that he admired Scholes the most. And if I recall right, Beckham once said that Scholes was one of the most admired opponents of his Real Madrid teammates, including Ronaldo, Figo, Roberto Carlos or Raul.
Sorry, but there are few players who can say that they recieved that much praise from other top class players. If one of the all time best calls him the toughest opponent, if one of the best and most successful midfielders of the last decade calls him the best of the last 20 years, all that speaks for itself I guess.

Injuries kinda killed his career. It's a big shame, cause if he kept performing like in the first three seasons in Chelsea, he would have been here for sure. Until now I have never seen a DM/B2B with such good finishing and long shots. He is one of the players I still miss the most from the old squad.

Gerrard was targeted year after year by the likes of Real,Inter,Bayern says it all really.
You can make the argument either way for who is better out of Lampard and Scholes, but Gerrard is undeniably below both of them.
Below them only when comparing trophies. Arsenal fan here, and I think he's the best of all three. His ability was masked by the poor quality of the Liverpool team around him.

i'm a united fan but gerrard was a beast. scholes was a dictator that would control the pace of the game and rarely lose possession through his precise and clincial passing, but he couldnt tackle to save his life. Lampard was a great goalscorer and was great at arriving in the box late, almost playing as a number 10 but he rarely tracked back as he had makele or ballack defending for him. Gerrard was a match winner, he would literally be relied upon for scroing a 30 yarder in the last 5 mins thats how good he was in his prime, and he was great at tackling, he possessed the aggression and tenacity that scholes and lampard lacked.
yeah but that wasnt something he could control, he was playing in a team that he was too good for and had to literally carry them in every big game. He single handedly inspired them to that comeback in the champions league final vs AC. Its hard to call it between him and because both of them were such great passers and shooters, but for me gerrard just edges it.

This might sound a little crazy but I think Gareth Barry is a good shout for this list ahead of Gary Speed. He's about to take Giggsy's record of most PL appearances ever. Admittedly he's never been spectacular but he has consistently played at a high level for 20 years now. He does have a premier league winners medal as well.
p.s. I'm aware Gary Speed won a first division title at Leeds in 1992 but i'm excluding that as it's pre-premier league era.
