    Great video, Chris. I have been flirting with the idea of setting up my own PeerTube instance to upload/mirror my videos. Just in case.

      btw there is BitTube which is decentralized. You can authorize YT account and import videos on bittube...

      @@thebads I know this comment is old but I wouldn't be authorizing my CZcams account to any other service especially not a well-known and popular one.
      any sort of data breach of any kind and your account is gone

    PeerTube looks interesting. I really like places that try to do things in a decentralized manner, and given that this is federated, it gives people a choice who they do or don't want to rub shoulders with. It's a big step up from something like Bitchute which, while decentralized, has also become a bit of a dumping ground for people who have been booted off of CZcams. Browsing that place's front page can be a bit of an adventure.
    The main things I wonder about PeerTube are if CZcams videos can be mirrored there automatically or if they have to be manually reuploaded. Also, I'm curious if there is a way to migrate servers if at some time in the future the one that a content creator uploads to comes under new management that is not to the tastes of the creator and the person wants to take their videos to a different server.

    Chris, you should try out The Whitcher 3 and Cuphead. I think you will enjoy TW3, it seems to be something for you. You can forgive them for not porting it to Linux after how some of the fools in our community lashed out at CDPR for the originally poor quality of the port of TW2. ;)
    Having said that, they should support Linux again, those guys are not representative of the Linux community, not at all.
    Don't be a martyr, enjoy Windows-only games too if they run well on Linux with that compatibility layer. Support developers who support Linux but also play the best Windows-only games. If two games are equally interesting and one runs on Linux natively and runs well, then in my opinion we Linux users should vote with our wallet.

      Good news. Chris now can play both Cuphead and TW3 with Steam Play Proton in Linux.

    I don't have new enough hardware for new games, but it's awesome sauce knowing that Steam is really pushing for more Linux games. Bit more fiddly 'buntu derivatives on what I think most people will want to bother, but looks promising.

    Chris, you've got a nice collection of games. Both some old school (Commander Keen) and more modern and different genres. Hitman and Deus Ex are a lot of fun. Did you play DE:HR with stealth or with shooting everyone? I put too many hours in that game and in Borderlands2. Also in FTL (you might have that one too). The best GTA game in my opinion is GTA San Andreas. I loved that game, despite its flaws.

    • @peterjansen4826
      @peterjansen4826 Před 6 lety

      Same for me for Deus Ex HR, I only played it with stealth. As a matter of fact, I got a little bit angry at the developer for not pointing out in the beginning of the game that you would have to not kill anyone to get the pacifist achievement (which I got at the end of the game) while in the first 'level' they stimulate you to shoot enemies, I had to start over. I also went for the ghost achievement, I had to give up on that when I had to save Malik, it is the only part which I couldn't do with the ghost bonus because doing that as a ghost and saving Malik is impossible. :(
      A good thing in that game: you controlled part of the story line. You could have Malik die or save her, in the second level you could save everyone or let the people die if you would be too late.
      Unfortunately I missed Vice City, it is the only GTA game which I didn't play. The good things about San Andreas: great characters, greate voice actors (also a pretty impressive list of celebrities who had big roles in movies and tv shows), great humor and fun flying. Those Berkeley missions were hilarious.

    On youtube being slow, have you tried the youtube music site? Good lord, that's unbearably slow. I mean sure, in my case it's a bit bottlenecked by Core2 DUO but still! Regular youtube is blazing fast, comparing to that thing.

    I know this video is 2 years old but since you were talking about Windows and lighting before you begin your topic I thought I would also ask an off-topic question. why do Brits seem to never you screams in their windows or have a screen door?
    in the United States we have screens on every window and typically have screen doors on front and back doors which helps keep out flies and other bugs during the summer when you wish to open Windows or doors to let a breeze blow through the house.
    it just seems odd to me since I understand it that Brits typically don't have air conditioning in their homes so open the windows or doors during the summer to have a breeze blow through the house but without screens how do you keep the bugs and the flies from getting into the home?

  • @hrnekbezucha

    i will suggest alternatives just for alternatives sake, bitchute you already know, but there is d.tube from steemit and there is bit.tube too, see if you like it ;)
    i like video aggregators like this too, have a video feed app and done, people can post on the 3 of them and to follow you just need the rss, comments section with disqus alike stuff

    The issue I see is how peers are picked, is it only people also currently watching the same video you are? Also whats the point of connecting peertube to other websites? Unless everybody that puts peertube on their site is also carrying other peoples videos? Then another issue is How to handle illegal content getting put onto my site or my pc as a peer?

    CZcams is slow? What? Maybe my PC is just really good (8700k @5Ghz and 32GBs Ram) or because I'm on Windows+Chrome but CZcams is never slow for me.
    Steam Play and Proton are good, hopefully we get to the point where it works really well for most games. Having the option to switch to another OS is always good for everyone. I wouldn't switch for a multitude of reasons but it is a step in the right direction for Linux Gaming.

    God yes CZcams is so darned slow! And I don't even know why it has to be. Seems like more and more websites are going for fancy designs and ignoring or leaving to the last minute any sort of optimization.

    • @Draconicrose
      @Draconicrose Před 6 lety

      @Cuzeg Spiked I like both of those new layouts, I just don't see anything about them that justifies how slow things are, especially in CZcams's case. It's not the looks, it's the performance.

      Cuzeg Spiked Yeah these sites really threw graceful degradation out the window.
