One of Gurnee’s sirens is placed in, of all places, Six Flags. it’s located backstage, but you can sort of see it when you ride the train to the front of the park.

I used to lived in Gurnee, Illinois. I used to work at the Pig that was in Gurnee. I remembered one time while working at the Pig. It was 10am on of those sirens went off it was on July 4th. The sky was so dark in the morning. This one woman panicked about it going off. I told her it was just a test.

Nice! About time someone recorded one of Gurnee's sirens. Next time you should check out one of the new Whelen 4004s in Libertyville. There's also one by the Lake Forest Oasis that's brand new.

I used to live in Gurnee. I lived in the suburb of Grandwood Park with my family 1970 to 1993. In 1994 to 97 I lived with my sister in Pembrook near Six Flags. I was working at the Pig in Gurnee. I remembered the warning siren was going off on July 4th, 1994. This last that was in the store panicked about it. I was so calm about it. That day the sky grew very dark at 10 am the lights went on in the parking lot just outside of the Pig.

You should see Lake Forest's siren system. It's all Whelens, but some are placed in weird spots. One of them is at the college's sports center I think on a field, there's one next to someone's driveway (I feel bad for those who live there and their neighbors!), and then there's one in a woods preserve. It's tested on the first tuesday every month at 10 and does voice 4 times then alert for about a minute or two. then i think a few (at least on the east side of town) go off daily at noon with alert. I think I've noticed that Whelens seem to be common in Illinois. You should check it out some time.
