The reason Rock U has such a 90’s sound is because KARA was influenced by their companies previous girl group, Fin.K.L, so they were trying to recreate the same kind of nostalgia from Fin.K.L’s debut era, late 90’s.
The one whose tone you love is Jiyoung! She’s the (old) maknae and debuted in Rock U at the age of 14. She left in 2014 and acts in Japan and Korea, and rejoined for the 15th anniversary!
oooooooh that would make sense, I'm over here like why does it feel like a 90s beat 🤣 I love Jiyoung's vocal tone soooo much!!!
KARA debuted a little later but in the same year as Girls Generation (2007). That era had these styles of candy-pop music, clothing, film quality and camera work. Absolutely the 'classic' look, feel and sound of Second-Gen K-Pop.
It did remind me a lot of the SNSD video style so that makes a LOT of sense!!
@@roguereacts Yup. :)
I'm pretty sure Kara debuted slightly earlier (if I remember correctly, Kara in March and GG in August).
@@eureka.y.1228 Okay, you are correct.
KARA debut: March 29, 2007.
Girls Generation debut: August 5, 2007.
I thought it was the other way around. Thank you for the correction. :)
I love KARA, I'm sorry I didn't experience the Golden Era of the second generation of KPOP. They have wonderful songs like Mamma Mia, Lupine, Step, Jumping, Mr. The group had more than one formation, the best known are Gyuri, Seungyeon, Jiyoung, Nicole and Go Hara (it's the formation of these reaction MVs) Nicole and Jiyoung They left and Youngji (Mamma Mia MV) entered. In 2019, unfortunately, Hara left us. In 2022 they returned for the 15th anniversary special and brought together the two lineups (Gyuri, Seungyeon, Jiyoung, Nicole and Youngji) to release When I Move.
Please do a Throwback TARA, the queen of EDM.
Greetings from Brazil, I love your channel.
hi! You know I also wish I had discovered kpop earlier on in life and could have experienced this in the prime of 2nd gen groups!
T-ARA may or may not be on the next Throwback poll 🤷🏻♀️
I know this happened a long ago, but I'm so grateful you did a KARA reaction
Nicole with that short haircut in Lupin is peak 2nd gen styling honestly. It suits her so well!
The thing with Kara is even though I was fully in the kpop fandom during their peak they just did not click with me at all. I knew some of the members from variety shows and I listened to most of their songs once on release and that's it. They just didn't interest me.
Then as we were right in the middle of 3rd gen (around 2016) I started to miss that 2nd gen sound, so I went back and listened to all their old stuff and suddenly was obsessed 🤣
Can't believe I missed out on them at the time!
Looking forward to the next Kara videos, especially the Killing Voice! (also the Mamamoo deep dive because they are my ults!)
Hope you had a nice vacation!
I totally get that! I remember hearing a kpop or two like 5ish years ago (it might have been bts) and being like meh... never explored it more back then. Then last year heard a few GG songs and now look where we are 🤣 So I totally get it lol
I had a wonderful vaca!!!
@@roguereacts it's funny because I was a fan of pretty much every other popular girl group at the time: SNSD, f(x), 2NE1, Wonder Girls, Miss A, BEG, T-ara, 4Minute, After School, Secret....
What did I have against Kara?! 🤣 I have absolutely no idea
Glad I learned to appreciate them later in life 😂
Kara debuted with a girl crush vibe, which was NOT popular in Korea at the time. Sunghee left the group, since the debut didn't go well, and her parents forced her to quit. So they did what a lot of girl groups did, they turned to the cute concept, added Hara, and Ji-young, hence Rock U.
oooooooh that makes sense! Thanks for the info!
For old Kpop fans Gen 2 was magical
Rock U was like the Love Shake of KARA.
Very happy about this Throwback, KARA was one of the very very very first Kpop groups I ever knew (along with Brown Eyed Girls and After School) .
The member who passed away (she was betrayed and not protected at every level, which I will never forgive) was Goo Hara. She was the small one, often center, often with the hair pulled back into a ponytail. Or the first one you see sitting down in the Jumping video with the old phone, or the one who goes "OW!" in the Step video, the fifth one in the white dress in the "lets all wear pretty dresses" part of that video. She's listed as a "Forever Member" of KARA, in their recent-ish comeback video When I Move (which has a rap!), they left an empty microphone stand out for her.
I love them a lot. You probably couldn't tell. :P
you are not wrong there with Love Shake! LOL I've loving this series, I get to explore groups that I never would have dabbled in 🥰 It's very sad about Hara 😔 the end of When I Move was very touching. 💙
OMG, "Step" is one my all-time favorite songs, kpop or otherwise! KARA was amazing.
Step is sooooo good! It's just so catchy, you can not not sing it when it comes on 🤣
They have a killing voice, its good to react.
oh I know! I said I'd be watching it don't you worry 🥰 will be out on thursday!
The timeline is completely broken in these 4, from Rock U 3 years to Step and then going back with Lupin and Jumping
Realized that after I had already recorded it 😭
the 2nd gen girl groups are my favorites! I'm so happy to see all these throwbacks from you.
🥰 I really enjoyed exploring all of them! I have more groups on the Throwback Series that I want to get to after exploring some Solo artists!
Pay attention to their MVs (in chronological order): Honey, Wanna, Pandora, Damaged Lady and of course their last MVs - When I Move.
They also have excellent Japanese albumography (especially ballads), I would recommend: Winter Magic, I just want to say thank you (Ima, Okuritai Arigatou) and Orion.
Lupin is so iconic. Starting the song with the rap part? *chef's kiss*
Lupin is one of my favs!!!
Kara is my favorite group, I met in 2013 when I was 13 years old, I get very emotional 🥹 best group ever
I've been loving their music! 🥰
Omg finally someone reacted to Jumping by Kara. thank you for the reaction !
Also, Kara is a part of the trio called Won-So-Ka, which meant Wonder Girls, SNSD (Girls' Generation), and Kara. They all debuted in the year 2007.
They're considered legends because they're the girl groups who opened the way for future ggs during that time when kpop industry was still dominated by boy groups. So I hope you get to check out Wonder Girls and SNSD (Girls' Generation) at some point ^^
oooooo yeah I can see why it was maybe hard for them to gain traction with those other groups also debuting!
Thnk you rogue❤
My kamilia heart love this.
Thnku sooo much for support and love KARA's music ♥♥
thank you for watching along with me! 🥰
Man I'm so glad you reacted to Kara. As a kpop fan who started during the second gen of kpop, their comeback for their 15th anniv was one of the best things that happened last year 😭 I've cried a lot lmao
glad you enjoyed the videos! 🥰
thank you for the reaction vid. i've been missing them lately
eta: should've added honey bc not only is it a great song, it's also their first win song
Will definitely have to check Honey out! 🥰
I Subscribe, thanks for making a video about my bloved KARA
glad you enjoyed the video! I really enjoy their music! 🥰
Since you like rappers so much, I suggest the next throwback could be Brown Eyed Girls
🤔 or 4 Minute
🤔 or Sistar
🤔 or AOA
🤔 or T-ara
Etc 😅
you know a few of those may be on the next Throwback poll 🤷🏻♀️😬
Seungyeon is my bias in this group, talented and cute💜💜💜
💙💙💙💙
Love Kara 💗
Their songs made few noise until they released "Mister" japanese version in 2010 and had an unprecedented success in Japan, while it had passed silently in South Korea the previous year. That made them be noticed back home and their songs in the year, Lupin and Jumping toped the charts, as well their previous works Rock U, Pretty Girl (Gaon Music Chart was launched in February 2010 as the official chart for South Korea). Since that moment all their song ranked at the top but Japan became their main market, so they made many songs only released in Japanese that most people ignore. The most iconic, all of them ranking no lower than 3 in several Jpn charts and not lower than Gold in record sales: Jet Coaster Love - Go Go Summer - Speed Up - Electric Boy - Winter Magic.
I wish YT didn't block a lot of Japanese mv's and songs, would have loved to explore them! 🥰
In what world was Mister passed silently in Korea? Lol it was a huge hit. Being a bside, it literally overshadowed the title track, Wanna. That song only became their Japanese debut because it was already a massive success in Korea.
Kara is one of my ults❤❤
I can see why! 😊
💜💜💜
💙💙💙
I love the candy pop stuff, I don't really take it that seriously, and I can't help but dance to it. I really miss it.😥
some of those candy pop beats just get you smiling that's for sure!
I had seen two and the other two are new to me... why did they have to put so many bodyrolls in jumping? but thanks... I'll try not to miss this trowback, I'm loving all the songs so far 🥰
soooo many bodyrolls in sooo many of these videos LOL glad you are also enjoying the songs as well!
Maybe you don't know yet that one of the members of KARA is Goo Ha Ra, died on November 24, 2019. His death is still under investigation, but some sources say it may have been a suicide.
I had heard one of them had passed away 😔
@@roguereacts Goo Hara's suicide (I believe that is what happened) is referenced obliquely in IU's song Eight, along with that of Jonghyun of Shinee and Sulli of f(x). Also Dreamcatcher's Boca has the line "too many angels dying now."
The first video where they wear black had a 4Minute vibe. Not surprising as they were on the go about the same time.
interesting! can't wait to explore 4minute as well at somepoint!
@@roguereacts Looking forward to it.
im bad at comments im sorry;; but:
i think the only company that relatively consistently has ccs for older songs has always been jype :p captions only became overall common like late 3rd gen but miss a and 2pm mvs have captions so~
its fully understandable to ignore break it for a kara discovery and i fully support the decision but that song and that album are really good imo i definitely recommend anyone to randomly put a few songs from that into a casual listening rotation or however it is people talk and just discover them like its radio
it wouldve been fun(at least for me personally) to see the smash cut from honey mv to step mv. honey is in the killingvoice but i still hope youll watch the mv sometime even if its not a reaction. i just like it. its just good. nicoles hair is such a sight
(since youve already watched it all and its not a spoiler: i think nicole is usually the rapper when needed, and kangjiyoung second?
also i think in rock u jiyoung wouldve been 14 and nicole and hara wouldve been 17, so the cutesy childish vibe in their pre-mr mvs was good. but thats also just generally the progression for ggs as they age specially in 2nd gen)
lupin is a gentleman/phantom thief concept(you asked if its a werewolf thing), like the french guy ^^
its just easiest to assume if its a 2nd gen gg in the early 2010s that its gonna be some kind of attack thats just how things were
i love kara so much thank you for reacting to them ^^♡
no bad comments here! unless you are mean then people just get blocked lol
I love all of this info, thank you for providing it!! I was trying to figure out the concept for Lupin my brain was reeling lol Phantom thief makes WAY more sense than a werewolf lol
Thank you for watching! 🥰
Legendary group. Losing HaRa will never feel totally real
Next reaction kara killing voice..
don't worry it's on the list!
😊✌️✌️
good list but missing Mister, one of their biggest early hits
I hope you can do to secret
Please react SISTAR, After School!
they are on my list 😊
@@roguereacts omg, waiting
Please react to Wonder Girls next..
they are on my list when we come back to the Throwback series!!
@@roguereacts thank you! Looking forward :)
Omg finally someone reacted to Jumping by Kara. thank you for the reaction !
It’s fantastic! Love the song ☺️
