Newgrounds actually made a program that emulates flash and allows "flash games" old and new to still be played there! Yes, Newgrounds is still around and doin' stuff.

I sank WAY too much time into the Burrito Bison series, thank you for reminding me of those days.
40 hours for doing everything (reasonable) seems much MUCH more than I was hoping for. Given the reception I was really looking forward to a shorter 5-15 hour experience from this one (depending on how much you wanted to do.) Then again, maybe it's a matter of simply paring back what you're going for and you can get that shorter play time =)

Thanks for letting me know about how to unlock the path to the true ending! When I got the regular ending in less than four hours, I was a bit surprised as I've never beaten a roguelite before. I agree with your view that the game does seem to need a bit more content, but what's on offer has been a blast so far!
Honestly I'm glad that I've come back and watched a few of these Completionist Videos I haven't watched yet.
It's just good to see a Video Game reviewer who comes off as honest. Like it's clear that Jirard is more polite than most video game reviewers, and the constant disclaimers and "to be clear"s throughout his review can be a bit tiresome. But I like that Jirard comes off as a guy who genuinely loves video games, who you could imagine talking about video games outside of a video format. He truly is among the last of a generation of decent Video Game Reviewers, and I hope he doesn't quit.

I wonder what genre Shovel Knight might try next? I think a rhythm game like Crypt of the Necrodancer and Cadence of Hyrule could be cool.
In a sense the puzzle game already could function similar... Perhaps have a sequel to that which takes the rhythm aspect further on top of expanding the scope the same way Cadence of Hyrule expanded the RNG generation to an entire overworld and etc
I’m personally hoping for an RPG. A wacky one, with lots of unique writing and timed button inputs, like Super Mario RPG.

The fact that this game exists makes me so happy. Nitrome is the reason I've been a gamer as long as I have, and definitely part of why I enjoy so many different styles. I want flash just to replay all the old Nitrome games. They just always had a personality that meshes really well with Shovel Knight here, and I hope they get the chance to tackle more iconic games soon!

I think part of the issue, is that it isn't really a rogue-lite in the same sense. The best example I can give is SteamWorld Dig, which uses a similar RNG level generation, but heavily curated abilities and gear.
Though I'd note that the sequel decided to remove most of the RNG aspect of level generation, so take that as you will.
Dig looks like a GBA game that could’ve existed in another timeline.
No joke - I totally dig this game and cannot wait how Yachtclub games is gonna expand on this franchise :3

HOLY SHIT I recognize that Nitrome game with the soldier. I used to play that all the time back in the day! Can't remember the name of it for the life of me, but I remember that gameplay. Especially the techbase level.

"out of nowhere, Out of Frickin Nowhere!" I mean... Tower of Fate will be "nowhere" i the future once it's destroyed, but as of SKD, the drill came from Tower of Fate.
I think that it is a fantastic game that allows players who have never heard of Shovel Knight to find out about the character, and maybe play the original games. Especially because not everyone plays games at a super high level, that's why roguelites are so popular, they're non-comittal, and can just be picked up, play a few runs, and put it back for when you play again tomorrow.
I wish great games were released around important parts of my life!
They are we just do not realise it in time. I never knew how important Hylics and Inscryption are gone become in my life. Many times you will realise art helped you months, years or never trought life. As the quote said:" I read 1000 books, I can't remmember 100 of them yet every single one is what I am now"

I love shovel knight and I became obsessed with Shovel Knight Dig. I Have fond memories of every boss I faced and every single time my chances aligned in just the right way for a trully amazing run. I did not know that the speeding through achievment was glitched, it was strange when I completed a run bellow the time and the feat did not show itself on screen. You are amazing and your videos are a true riot to watch through, I do hope to see you full video on shovel knight's main game as well as any other Yatch club related projects in the future. You are the reason I originally bought Shovel Knight for the 3DS and I still adore it to this day. My 11 year old son does too and has beaten all campaigns. Sure, I completed it but he had the skill to beat them all. As they were released, so he was quite young when he beat SKs campaign. Makes a father proud.

Jirard, you sir are like a big huggable teddy bear with a beard!
I hit a glitch that caused dirt to become undiggable. Meaning dirt would not respond to being shoveled and was impassable. I ended up stuck in the 5th biome during the "owl quest" because of this and had no choice but to let the omega saw kill me. It was immensely frustrating because that was the farthest I had ever made it up to that point in the owl quest.
I hope they release dlc like they did with treasure trove

I’m not usually that keen at discovering endgame secrets, so hearing that I almost accidentally started a true ending run within my first couple of runs is a pleasant surprise

"Deadcells I love you don't need to keep going so hard." - Every player when they go back to Deadcells and realize there's an evolving meta to a roguelite and 100 new areas.
The history lesson for Nitrome means a lot more than you think it would for me. Nitrome killed it at Shovel Knight and my expectations were more than met

Its pretty funny that you mentioned the people that watched this episode as the first Completionist Episode. Cause I am :D
I really wish I liked this game more than I did. It’s still good, naturally, but I only managed the true ending cranking every accessibility feature up to its highest. When I played regularly, I could barely get through a run even after buying everything and just didn’t have fun. And doing that disables feats, even though I would definitely not be willing to do everything for this game given how RNG heavy these feats can get. Shovel Knight Dig is still wonderful and nothing will change that, but the game proved the genre just isn’t for me with how random it is and how the tiniest mistakes can tank a true ending run.
That's how I feel and did. And knowing that doing these feats give you nothing is just absurd. Plus, after like five days attempting to finish the game with those feats and not getting anywhere by the skeleton key (which is a good item with a stupid double-edged sword)... it's beginning to tear on me. For my sake, I need to uninstall this game and play another game. There's so much games I need to play around Halloween.
