- This is a short feedback after Jay's iyagi very positive review of Closer Acoustics OGY speakers, where I explain what is my best experience with OGY stand mount speakers and low frequency woofers. Adding subwoofer to the OGYs using open baffle seems to be the best way to go. If you have a place. I designed something that you may really like. Take a look in the video and tell me if you would welcome this addition.

I love your concept design rendering: beautiful flowing form with function. A base with bass. Keep us appraised on your progress.
Such a cool idea, that rendering looks amazing!
Really enjoyed the OGY when we reviewed them.
Hi. I heard your Ogy with the bass extension at Björn in Duisburg. The combination sounded very refreshing and expansive in the stage setting. The bass extension provided the Ogy with good spatial depth and the right amount of bass, which the Ogy conceptually lacks due to its size. A very inspiring performance with a sound experience that was not expected.
Product name suggestion:
OGY & PIROGI
Playful humor with a catchy name coupling.
Pierogy, dobra nazwa, it's a catchy name :)
Definitely dig the concept of driver/stand aesthetics.
Love the concept. I look forward to seeing this come to fruition. The OGY is on my Radar for when I upgrade my early 70’s Sansui’s. Ill have some 2.3 watt Decware amps bridged into Mono making 6 watts, and I am looking for a Speaker that would match my Style, Sound, and Amplifier. Ive gone from large on the floor Altec’s etc. to loving how bookshelfs allow the sound to be there, not come from a speaker.
Luckily my current speakers make some nice tone quality in lower frequencies. Not punch, slam, or weight etc. into inflated levels that aren’t natural. Just a nice smooth sound. I imagine the OGY’s are a modern, higher quality/resolution sound, with refinement galor. Bass is one of those things that Ive toyed with, but never found a match that works. So to know that the OGY might have a Sub made for it, that also integrates into a stand is the best news. Super cool. Im glad I saw Jay’s Video, and am now an even bigger fan. It’s going to be hard to pick anything else.
thank you. well the reason the bookshelf was born so late in our speakers lineup was that I felt that if you have place for stands and bookshelf then why not a floor-stander? having experience with wide band drivers of different sizes from 5 to 12 inch, you realize that there is always some kind of compromise you have to make, so from OGY with 5" to Vigo 12" it is a long way. OGY - pinpoint focus and speed, Vigo - breath and body. Now adding sub to OGY creates another playing field. Remember OGY still goes very low, so the "Heart of bass" for it somehow reinforces from 200Hz down without blurring the picture. Just giving this presence.. Just listening now on the big baffle with OGY Hania Rani @ Dobrawa Czocher "Inners Symphonies" - what a beautiful music and what a presence. Good video
Sounds beautiful but the best thing is the sewing machine table😉
Was already looking into getting the Ogy’s to pair with my Rel t7/x…and now this! What a wonderful addition. How low before roll-off on the 12” woofer? Also, just a passive speaker wire connection from the same amp to the subs? 🙏🏼👍🏼
Hello, I am still working on it so no specific number. When it will be closer to the end I will share here. And Yes passive connection. It is completely different sound that with active sub.
I love how you upcycled the old Singer sewing machines as equipment stands.. Anyway, the EMS drivers are quite impreasive..
The one on the right is a very rare one. Made in Poland in the 20 ties last century they told me. Interestingly I bought it long time ago to use as a table for an aquarium 🤣🤣🤣👌🥳
Saw Jay's video which was great. How are you connecting the sub and the speaker to the same amp with no sub output and how are you setting the crossover point?
In this case a separate wire from amp speakers terminal. Only a coils for bass drivers. 100Hz. You can look at it as a classic speaker with bass drivers. :)
You could also use a plate amplifier for the bass driver. It has a build in x-over.
I want to keep it simple as possible :) minimum ingredients optimum result. :) sometimes less is more 😉
Like your attic with strawboard 👍
Nice idea you can start with OGY and then later add a woofer.
Those OB’s look like they might be hinged?
Hell, Thank Robert, this is real attic of an old defunct railroad station. We used osb and wool to fix wall as quick and simple as possible. I very much like this room. it is quiet and has its ambience. The open baffle is not hinged. in fact side wings are removable (fixed with screws) as the center part can be exchanged for other drivers and sizes.
Have you considered adding a dedicated amp for sub. Maybe in form of ready-made plate amp mounted in the base of bass/stand? Robert Bastanis and many other audio manufacturers went this route, usually with decent results. Although if you found a woofer driver that is well sounding, easy to drive and integrate with Ogy that's even better! More power to you and full range for those auditioning this set. One question comes to my mind, how to integrate a woofer in case Ogy are used as a nearfield monitors on desk?
Hi. I have a special bass driver for this, made for us by EMS. It blends with OGY very well acoustically and does not need resistance to match sound levels.I t has to be simple, and it is. Efficient enough to be driven by our 300B Provocateur Single Anded Triode amplifier. Now for near field behind the desk? well I did not try but if you will find a place :) it should work. In terms of connection either you do bi-wiring from the amp or you can use a cable that connects terminals in OGY with those in OGY Bass unit. That's it :)
@@closeracoustics6154 Thanks for reply. It sound's promising. Maybe I'll visit your place for demo when its ready, you're not that far from Kato :)
@@aeonikus1 it is ready. See the latest video The Full Ogy ❤️
Call it the Oi as after the chant ogy ogy ogy oi oi oi 🙂
Hi, do you also have floorstanders? If yes, where can i find some info on them? Also could you make a pair of OGYs without venere finish? How much would if cost? Thank you
Tes we make a range of floorstanders. All in our boutique. If you want some specials e-mail me please. This is our webshop - basic OGY www.stereopolis.com/collections/bookshelf-loudspeakers/products/ogy-birch-plywood
Open baffle seems like the way to go to get away from that one-dimensional, boomy sound of high excursion enclosed subs.
Unless money and space is no object, then I'd be looking at a $4,000 low excursion Fostex super woofer, FW800HS (drools)
I'm currently looking into undertaking a DIY open baffle project, since I unfortunately lack the budget for BOB or the Fostex.
Pleas contact me :)
I want want want 🙂
hmm.... so tiny vented full range and giant open baffle bass?
Please do watch it all, you will understand what it is all about? this open baffle is universal for various tests. It is not and will not be a commercial product. All the best Jacek
Sounds fantastic Jacek 👌
@@garyspence8383 thank you
Rel's are just a joke. They aren't fast subs. They are normal & nothing special. I don't understand the hype behind them. Any pro diy subs are way better than any rel without compression as well.
