He actually names the people he works with, even if they aren't big names or whatever. Lots of respect for that.
RIGHT!
Yep, I caught that too! Love him!
So brilliant, great actor, great great director , we all have our flaws, if your living your flawed, no one is perfect ,we try , still love him though.
The love that Mel Gibson is getting from the comment section is just beautiful. We miss you Mel and we want you to know that.
He speaks with such passion about is craft. Definitely inspirational.

Well spoken
Yes we do miss him ... cinema has been missing a piece, like a puzzle, with him not acting as much as he once did.
Humble, real, hyper-intelligent, sensitive, erudite. I mean, the man remembers John Clothier, a camera operator who shot the flying sword in "Braveheart" way back when. But then he never fails to give credit to his crew. Great interview.Thanks.
It does speak to his character. I never jumped on the bandwagon of hating him, I never felt like he deserved all the hate he got. Chide the guy, make some jokes and move on, he was drunk.
But, well said man.
Agreed. Gibson has had his past demons, but he's honestly a decent human being...I've always appreciated his movies, his humility, and his willingness to tell primal, unusual stories that other people wouldn't touch.
Hacksaw Ridge was incredible, and I hope that this gives Mel the comeback he deserves.
what does donald marshall have to say?
Love this interview! Seems like a humble guy! He's doing a new film about my dad's WW2 ship, USS 724 Laffey.
Mel Gibson seems like a really cool guy
Hacksaw Ridge was PHENOMENAL
THE MOVIE DUDES yes and yes
My goodness, Mel Gibson is so humble and remembering peoples names who are not famous, but recognizes and appreciated their loyalty, or having had a good times together. His very good looks I believe got him into this industry, and his intelligence and daringness, and of course, his talent makes him an exceptional rare individual. Loved the interview!
He's still a hunk!
Mel Gibson is the best current director in my opinion
The guy just makes great films
And great actor, wish he makes more movies
I like Clint Eastwood, also!
That means he reads. he has a graps on history - archaic and past, which in cinnection w/ current
events.
Mel & Clint, the two best actors turned Directors.
He is a genius in his field
Dude, what an honor it must be to interview him.
ya i am arnt i
He is the king of cinema's . Beautiful soul !❤
Mel rules. I'm so happy he's back making films.
I could listen him for days.
Me too!
@@KatharinaK117 I thought the interviews of Mel that "Stranger than Fiction" captured in his compilation of Shia La Bouf and Mel was amazing and exciting
Same
There’s a lot of pain in his face and eyes. He’s been through the wringer. Bless his heart.
I love how you made the guy relax. He must be so tense in interviews, expecting those awkward questions.Well done.
Oh man...I didn't want this interview to end. Mel is a genius and the way he talks with so much passion and knowledge - he's so intelligent and charismatic...you just can't stop listening. I'm so happy he's back, I love him.
I like the part where he asked him about Braveheart for 45 minutes out of the hour interview
Hollywood lost 10 years of privilege, by do not having the most beautiful , inteligente, best actor, best person, best soul, with the biggest heart as well . Lord bless him always
World class director and actor. He's one of the best. Always looking forward to his excellent films.
He's directing Lethal Weapon 5 😁
Braveheart was his first full directing attempt? Wow. That is my favorite movie of all time. I am so glad he's back in it again. Thanks Mel.
His first movie as director was The Man Without a Face. Wonderful movie.
Steven Hanson u were probably not around. that was his directorial debut. But he was already at the peak of his career as an actoe. He won an Oscar for it.
MR GIBSON, YOU ARE THE MOST. COURAGEOUS ACTOR AND MOVIE DIRECTOR IN THE WROLD!!!! CONGRATULATION!!!!!
Yes! I agree.
Mel is the GOAT. Dude has, arguably, the greatest body of work of any living actor/director.
Much like Kurt Russell they never give a bad performance. Consistently good.
I agree!
Apocalypto is a masterpiece

@walter white I apologize! I fell asleep while listening to this interview and must have accidentally hit the phone screen with my hand...🥴
A true, magnificent accomplishment of cinema.
True that. Ive watched it countless amounts, and always find somethin interestin n new in it. That is what makes it a genius piece of timeless artwork. Totally underated.. luckily.. that makes it more precious, and is a go to movie when i feel like relaxin n watchin n cant decide what
@@heithaforsyth forgiven. The laugh we all got...from your oops, is much needed!!
Mel reached the lost in this world for Christ which is why the Lord has blessed him. He also never allowed himself to get into the evil side of Hollywood!! God bless this dear man and keep him away from those who try to hurt him ..
He is one of a kind indeed.
Amen
Yes so true. I look up to Mel the most in Hollywood as a good example of what is truly possible.

As king, you must find the good in any situation.
Why watch and comment then?
@@kald0rei why should I like a people who consider my race their enemy?
You can tell Mel has a big heart, it comes through in all his films in a way that you won't find anywhere else.
Mel is the best and misunderstood actor ever.
True!
Mel, if you hear me, you are my hero!
I wish I could put into words how much I enjoyed this, and how dearly I love this guy.
ditto
Me three.
I agree 💯 his films are great and acting incredible. The passion of the Christ was true art. And considering the event's; it's obvious that the devil 👿 did not want it made. Also really glad the way he portrayed John MacLean as a MacLean; fun fact John Maclean's names comes from the translation (MacLean- son of the servant of saint John)
That may be one of the best interviews I've ever seen.
I don't think I've seen any "big name" put so much thought into every question.
So much respect for Mel, warts and all.
I could listen to this man for hours.
His voice is up there with Morgan Freeman.
you can actually, listening to this rants lol
Yeah but Mel didn't sleep with his granddaughter like Freeman did.
The Passion changed my life. How could I ever Thank this man?
Hacksaw.....beautiful movie!
Mel Gibson, your phenomenal!
He is so right about the final chase scene in Mad Max 2. It definitely still holds up. It is one of the greatest action sequences EVER.
You can watch his movies over and over again , they stay good. That's what the best movies are all about
15:07. Anyone who gets this excited about the craft of professional camerawork is a true filmmaker.
Yes, and it showed in the scene (HR) where Doss is lowered off the ridge. Doss appears to descend, then float, then ASCEND, all by changing the camera angle. Brilliant yet subtle allusion to hell, purgatory and heaven. BTW, nobody ever got shot on a Gibson set.
I can watch him speak for ever!! He's so animated and in the moment. Brovo Mel!! A real man!
He is amazing. What an incredible person. And these blue eyes of his are something.
Just noticed the "dislikes" of this video and I can't understand any of them. How you can't like this interview if you're into movies and filmmaking???
@Grey Man Shut up, asshole. Personal preference doesn't require a label.
You’ll always get assholes & I’ll bet they the Woke idiots, who are clueless, that would dislike this. They have no taste
Robert Mitchum was encouraged by his sister as well to try acting at about the same age and he had the same reaction, it was just a lark, a goof, but went on to become one of the most iconic actors of his time just like Mel.
fantastic interview. mel is clearly struggling with his headache all through, but soldiers on, answers every question diligently, respecting the interviewer's time and effort, same attitude is reflected in the quality of his films.
I can never forget the scene in Braveheart when the Lords were not helping in the fight and the disappointment on his face was brilliant! Or in The Patriot when he hugged Suzan! He says so much with his facial expression! He's my favorite actor since I saw him in the Bounty!
Once again, fantastic interview. It's good to see Mel back in the public eye. We're all human, we all make mistakes. He's no different, and hella talented to boot.
CharlieWafles I thought they way Ricky Gervais made fun of him at the globes was totally in bad taste and unfunny.
+savedfaves actually Ricky did Mel a favour by making jokes, because humor and jokes defuses the situation and lightens it. It lets people make the first step to deal and forgive.
It's great to hear him talking about directing and comparing acting...he is very particular in his descriptions and not only talking hot air that has no point like so many others..very genuine with no filter or arrogance...tries always to shift the credit and the attention on others...so rare to see such successful talented people in Hollywood who are so humble
Great interview! I don't think he trusts reporters or the media in general but you seemed to win him over quite quickly. He is a phenomenal director.
Agreed.. Mel's kind but cautious.. a genius w/ the street smarts necessary for what he does.
No human being who has a spirit should ever trust the media.
Jessie DiConti So true Jessie. Well said.
@Jessie well said n AMEN!
Dear Mel, you are a genius. Congrats on getting through the msmedia gauntlet. Respect. "The Man without a Face" was a milestone for me, and it's still hyper-relevant today.
The interviewer did a great job. Quick, informed and relevant questions that kept the convo going easily. You rarely hear Mel get this indepth with his career.
I think Mel is a great actor and a great director. I love Braveheart, The Passion of the Christ and Hacksaw Ridge. I know he has had lots of controversy but who am I to judge.
Yes. I completely enjoy and respect this man. He has an inner strength.I’m so happy for this man.
I have the deepest respect for this man.
One of my favourite people on the planet. Such a talented, skilled and evolved man. One of the best people in the history of man to spend time with.
You got Mel !!!! Congrats David! Thanks for giving us an extended interview.
this is one of the best CZcams channel ever, the interviews just flow and guests are always at ease. Kudos!
They're all given a shot of pure opium before the interviews. It was suggested by Chris Walken.
"You're talking to the brain damaged here." Mel is great!
Really impressive attitude Mel has towards his staff.
He better be nominated for an Oscar!!
Joseph Dutra for which film?
savedfaves hacksaw ridge
He's a relatable man who is brave, imperfectly human and has truth as his goal. He's always engaging and is one of my favorite directors. But that's me.✌
Nobody ever asks him about Mutiny On The Bounty. Great cast
by far the greatest interview you have ever done, astounding insights into his career as actor and director...absolutely incredible
I agree!
fans of mel gibson have been waiting for something like this for literally decades
Love his low growl of a voice
Oh yeah!
Baritone voice right there.
This interview was an absolute pleasure to view. Mel makes movies with a glorious gumption that I find so astonishingly rare. It isn't about shock value for the sake of it. It doesn't go to lurid places or show us the underside of people like most movies lazily do while pretending to be profound without being minutely useful. It shows you the daring of people who make worthwhile stands that cost. I always leave his movies feeling more enlightened, processing the material for years, and find them utterly unforgettable. I have to say, Hollywood excoriating him after an anti-Semitic rant while plastered-- with the skeletons in their closets that must keep them on drugs to manage the anxiety of being found out...well, that's a level of hypocrisy hard to stomach. I'm so glad he's risen above it all and continues bravely forward. He has too much in his vast arsenal of talent to bury it.
incredibly well said - couldn't agree more
mel could just do his own vids, w3 dont need this begger involved.
Shalom ! OH! Glórias a YHWH! HALLELUYHA! VOCÊ CAPTOU MUITO BEM A ESSÊNCIA DE MEL GIBSON.!
A superior interview. There are so few mature interviews and interviewers - and so few things made with a grown-up tone, for grown-ups, in general. So, thank you.
True, very much an un-adult world now.
This is the best interview ive seen in a long long time. You really made him feel comfortable in an industry kinda way. You really know your stuff. I am not a fan of celebville, but feel that Mel and only a handful of others (Robin Williams for example) are a real blessing to all of us. He is the perfect balance of an artist who has not been corrupted, and still directs his own soul, yet is entrenched just enough to understand how to stay just inside the industry.........just.........with his talent being the adhesive. He his a genius of sorts, and we are very lucky to have him. Well done.
rest in peace mighty beard
He had the beard for a movie he was doing. You're right, it was a great majestic beard. I saw an interview where Mel said he was really looking forward to cutting it off, it was starting to bug him.
It got shaved on Kimmel's show.
Benjamin Jack Kata Finau
I missed it. I'll have to check that out. Thanks.
Benjamin Jack Kata Finau
That's cool I like your name I have a brother whose name is Ben my Uncle is known as Jack my mother's name is Kathleen or Kathy and her marriage name just happens to be Finau after marrying a Tongan man 😀
That was a good one! Behold the mighty beard is back!!!!
I totally relate except my life has a different story of course, but as a guy from Australia that was born in the late 70's, open mind & a willingness to learn more. I would like to say he has something that I see & he's got a good soul that a Aussie bloke like me can see. Good luck with everything Mel.
He seems so intelligent! Its a shame people who don't watch interviews like this only see what the media portrays or figure him as some of his characters that are not that deep.
I love his passion that he has been putting into his work to be delivered so inspiring. Ovation applause for Mel.
i dont know why but Id find it incredibly satisfying to hear Mel talk in an Oz accent again. Make it happen.
Do you reckon Mel could pull off the accent again?
You can hear shades of it when he gets excited, if you listen carefully.
Such an amazing guy.
That was really good. Mel was really good in this interview.
Mel needs to do television. In this day in age, all the best storytelling seems to be done on cable. I heard he might be doing a western show with Kurt Russell and Kate Hudson about the Gold Rush. That would be so sexy
Tyler Olson could you even dare to a imagine a tv show starring and directed by Mel Gibson .... excuse me I’m having a moment lol
David Poland, you seem so relaxed and affable with some really profound talent. What's your secret? The results are some truly lovely interviews. Mr. Gibson seems so damn likeable and passionate and open. I especially love how he drops names of crew he worked with from years and years ago. Classy.
AWESOME!!! Mel is always so entertaining, on screen as an actor and just being himself off screen, so animated! love it.. and of course behind the camera.!
I love your interviews with him. He seems like he would not be an easy interview but he opens up with you. He doesn't look that happy but he does open up and take the interview seriously which is good.
He looks happy he's just how he is lots of people like that cool guy for sure
In 2016 Mel Gibson came back in a big way, Hacksaw Ridge & Blood Father, Wow!
What a fantastic interview, Mel is great to listen to, one of your more interesting interviews, I can see why you extended for an hour. I love Mel!
Tremendous interview, its an art to get the hell out of the way and bring them to the table.
Great interview! Loved every minute of it. I will remember the three "E"'s.
This is a wonderful interview. Thank you!
I met Mr Doss in 1995. This movie only scratched the surface of his life, but MrG did a great job in telling it. Two thumbs up MrG!
I probably could've watched at least another hour of this. That man ought to be showered with money and work.
Great interview! Mel Gibson is remarkable. The man is a genius as both an actor and a director, truly the best of his generation in my opinion. I really love and respect his honesty and courage to speak his mind. His films will continue to speak to how good he is, timeless.
What an inspiring and talented guy! Glad to see him making a comeback.
It's pretty amusing that someone who's been pilloried for being racist and bigoted made one of the most ethnically authentic movies of all time in Apocalypto.
He was drunk, you say shit you don't mean when drunk.
They have tried to get him out of Hollywood because he knows... and if you know, you know.... (if you know what I mean)
Mel Gibson must of felt really comfortable with this interviewer for him to talk this long with him.
"I've Got A Headache, Let's Go." SAME MEL SAME 😔
Wow! Love his enthusiasm about the hands-on and tech stuff (and rally learning it) and all the people he credits. Mel Gibson definitely is not just a very talented and charismatic actor, he is a true and skilled filmmaker.
truefilm
Yeah, Kinda sad that ppl. shit on him like that.
He has his Problems but don´t we all ?
Mel Gibson turning air into gold. Thank you so much for this, Sir. I cannot emit enough through myself to how refreshing this is to feel. By same goes toward Mr, Bale.
He's remaking The Wild Bunch. Can't wait. It's one of my favorites.
Love this guy and his movies. Much respect Mr Gibson
I really appreciate Mr Gibson..The way he allows us to come into his mind a d heart as he is interviewed..A respectable man of integrity who is great at his craft and contributes such substance..Truelymaking a difference in the lives of all involved..Love ya Mel..God bless you..I feel blessed being an audience member of his movies .
Wow. I’m nearly speechless. Wonderful interview!!! (On both sides.) Mel Gibson is as real and authentic as one could ever dream to find; especially in this industry.
Thank you so much for this! Mel's so interesting and I like those deeper interviews
I worked in the film biz in Los Angeles “Hollywood” for 10 years in the Camera Dept. I was surprised at how many actors known and unknown really did hang around the set and ask questions about what we were doing and how it worked. We loved it. Especially since they really only hung out with the camera crew..
Good job Mel. Thanks for hanging in there and not giving up.
Say what you want about Gibson.... but you have to admit he is one INNOVATIVE movie maker!
Just saw Hacksaw Ridge. It should get Best Actor and Best Picture IMO.
Great director and great actor!
No wonder I haven't been seeing well produced movies for last decade... I finally understand he was the director who made my favorite movies...
I learnt so much about the industry from this interview, mel is great
mel Gibson is my spirit animal
legion Racism included?
Ya know what Mel! Your a hell of a person!👍😍
Grew up with Mels work, love both his acting and directing, this man is a genius. Thanks for this interview, it was a really great watch/listen. Also Apocalpyto is one of the best movies ever made, it's unlike anything else, one of its kind.
THIS MAN IS A GENIUS!
I need to compliment the interviewer. Great questions! As for Mel Gibson, the restless soul that he is, the great visionary, who is creating great movies and recreating himself through his movies. I never weary watching him. His face is so expressive that I can see through him.
huge thank you for these great interviews! you are amazing. keep doing them!
One of the best interviews I have seen for Mil Gibson.
It’s great to hear his perspective, he went through a very hot fire of criticism, no telling (yet) what pressures were on him! Glad he recovered from the insanity of commercial Hollywood!
Mel has always been one of my favorites. His courage to produce outside the studios is impressive, both in Passion and Hacksaw Ridge. His inspirational movies are awesome.
