  • This is a follow-up to video 019, providing the details on the head-on crash that destroyed the trailer I recently purchased to haul around my Kubota LX2610. There's also an update on my John Deere GT235, I confess my potentially disasterous insurance blunder, and I share some “swag” from a couple of other CZcams channels.

    Wow Chris! So many thoughts right now. Let me summarize. First, thanks for sharing the various aspects including insurance - sooooo important to understand the nuances of your insurance coverage. I too, looked into it a while back and now, all my trailers are now separately insured - not the load, just the trailer, as they won't insure the load here. I assumed, wrongfully, for some time that because the trailer was attached to my truck, that the trailer was also covered - not true (at least here or at least not with my insurer). Second - empty nesters - 2 thoughts - at first , you are happy to see them "launch" into their lives - super proud and supportive and when they leave, I promise, within a short time , you will miss them soooo much and be almost begging them to come back for Sunday dinners - at least. Hey- your car is dirty - come by and let's wash it up this weekend! And, why don't you stay for dinner? Bring your boyfriend/girlfriend. :)) LOL! Hey, you need to swap the winter tires, come back for a meal and let's change your tires. Got laundry this week? drop by and we'll do your laundry and please stay for dinner. Too funny how goofy we are as Dad's. :)) We are so happy to see them grow but we miss having them around the house after they leave cause we quickly realize how much they filled our lives. It's not easy being nerdy, I guess. But man, I miss mine. Third - those are some cool coffee mugs you have - LOL! Hope you and your lovely wifey get to enjoy every cup , on the deck or at the Watershed, watching the sun rise in the mornings - there is nothing better. And fourth: Garmin Dash Cam Mini 2. It would not hav captured what happened behind you ( unless you buy two and mount one on the back rear windshield) but it would have captured their activities far in front as they approached, as well as video'd your position and theirs, relative to the yellow lines. And if you have a plug in pin connector on your rear view mirror, then buy the Dongar Technologies "Simple USB" so you don't have to run any wiring. They make them in California. Happy no one was seriously injured. Glad you are ok and back to normal so to speak. Be well and wish you and your family well!

      Wow. Thanks for all the kind words and sentiments Gord. Yes, this was certainly a "learning moment" for me regarding the insurance and I am really fortunate that I didn't totally screw myself over through my own ignorance. Thankfully, lesson learned and proper insurance secured! As to the boys moving out...it is as you say. We are fortunate to enjoy really good relationships with all three boys and unlike some of our friends we were not really in any hurry to have them leave. Obviously, we want them to be successful and on their own but we have really enjoyed having them here as adults. They seem to like us too and our house is often where they and their friends come to hang out. Considering they are 24 and 25, that's a luxury many of our contemporaries don't enjoy and we will certainly miss that! You mentioned the camera...the frustrating truth is that I actually had the GoPro mounted on the windshield!!! I had shot what I thought was the last bit driving out the road from the Overlook and thought, "maybe I'll just turn the camera around and film". But in the end I decided that would be a waste of SD card and didn't. I mean...what could possibly be worth filming, right!?!? 😳😲🤦‍♂
      Loving the mug my friend...Cheers! Thanks again!

    Thanks for the additional info on the trailer insurance. I will check with my agent to insure I have the appropriate coverage too, for my 18+2 trailer just like yours. Dan

    Full watch for my 3rd time. Great review of several points. Even though I'm laid up right now and it will be a few months before i can use my tractor again, these lessons here are very helpful.
    Turns out that my trailer is almost identical to your setup. With the cab version of the LX you need the extra length to get the tongue weight balanced properly.
    Hearing things repeated is a good thing. Thanks again Chris for sharing. Dan

    Chris, just watched ep 19 and this one. Sucks you had to deal with that. Glad you and the dog were OK and you got your new trailer. Thankfully the other party had insurance. Too many folks on the roads these days without insurance always worries me. Good tip about insuring the trailer separately. I need to look into that too

  • @wildbill23c
    @wildbill23c Před rokem +1

    Great advice on the insurance aspect, I need to call my agent and ask about it. I don't tow very often, but not sure how they'd insure 2 of my trailers as they're just utility trailers with no sort of identification on them...my car trailer does have a VIN, probably should add that or see how to go about insuring it somehow. I've hauled my BX2680, loader, and mower on it a couple times...and just in town, but dang, anything like you had happen can happen anywhere anytime. I have a 7' x 18' trailer, originally was going to get a 16' but it sold before I got to the dealership....looking at it now I'm glad I got the 18' just that much more room to be able to put stuff properly for a balanced load. With my BX2680 I ordered a tie down kit for it, so I have tie down loops up front and rear, makes it very easy to secure to a trailer. Right now I'm using 4 5,000lb ratchet straps, but thinking chains and load binders would be much better and easier to deal with than straps.
    Something else I was told, at least in Idaho DOT requires the loader and any 3 point implement/attachment to be secured to the trailer as well, even though its attached to the tractor.
    I'm trying to come up with a winch install solution for my trailer as its pretty similar to yours, just a different style rail across the front...one of those trailer tongue boxes would be great too, or even a regular pickup bed tool box would work...winch would be in a receiver type mount so it would be removable when not in use.

    • @watershedoverlook
      @watershedoverlook  Před rokem +1

      I'm thinking of adding a winch as well at some point and like you, will likely make it removable. But every time I think about it and consider the price of a decent winch, I think...that's half the cost of an implement!!! If I ever get around to it I'll certainly have a video on it!
      As always, thanks for watching!

    On my way to work one morning,, just took a left out of the gym.. driving by the methadone clinic.. crack head literally shoots out and drives right into my car spinning me around.. my car was a Saturn and exploded into a million plastic pieces. It was awful. They towed my car and I walked home 😢. Fudge. Sorry for your accident

      @watershedoverlook  Před rokem +1

      That sucks Ryan. Hopefully, if you walked home you were not injured? The crazy thing was that the third time in a couple of months that someone crossed the centerline coming at me. Thankfully, in the first two cases they got back over before any impact. And it has happened since. Maybe I'm cursed?!?
      But hey, plastic Saturns...good times! 😉👍

    I sincerely appreciate your candor and honesty, and am now a subscriber. I too have a similar setup (tractor, trailer, implements, etc.) and have recently taken to moving them around. (I have pulled trailers for different tasks and so forth, but did not until recently have need to move the tractor off property.) I am curious. Had your tractor been damaged, would the other party’s insurance have covered? If not, would your tractor be covered under your insurance? Perhaps under a different policy? Thanks in advance for anything you’re able / willing to share!
