- The deep-sea submersible Alvin has brought researchers and explorers to extraordinary places for more than 50 years. Now, Alvin is poised to continue its revolutionary scientific work with a new set of upgrades that will take it deeper than ever before, with the ability to reach more than 98% of the ocean. How has the research conducted with the Alvin submersible impacted our understanding of the oceans? And what can Alvin’s incredible history of discovery, inspiration, and daring tell us about life on Earth and beyond?

Now this is a submersible!
Notice you didn’t hear one mention of carbon fiber in this whole video or any other submersible videos lol
One that was designed over fifty years ago and is constantly being upgraded as technology and knowledge advances.
There's a rule you don't do that... well i did it.
Built by General Mills after many companies, including General Dynamics, showed no interest in building it.
@@OldishGoaliehim not it
I've never looked into so many topics of submersibles.

jea, me2 .that Ocean Gate sub... woow.. Thats 1960 ... 60 jears & Ocean Gate ? ... theyrs so mutch wrong !
A 1960s submersible that has gone through thousands of dive vs a dingy plastic tube made by a wanna be explorer.
It is amazing to me that the company Ocean gate didn’t follow common practices in the deep water sub building community.
Alvin > Titan
No shit.
I came here to say, no shit, but then I noticed that somebody else had already left that exact comment
It’s almost like alvin is the pinnacle of 60 plus years of deep sea research and 100s of millions of dollars in funding. Kinda makes titan look like a carbon fiber casket glued together in a warehouse.
@@erieschl yep. That’s what the > means.
Titan not even in the conversation
Alexa, fantastic story. Another excellent episode of Changing Seas. Keep up the great work.
Think:Alvin's an amazing discovery, piece of technology*Good luck on all yr endeavours*God bless*

At least some rebuilds it good 👍 job guys
What a hoot, hard work but great fun
Aivin we thank you!
I'm surprised they haven't put catalytic converters on those black smoke vents
I just heard today it was initially developed for military applications. The science was initially a side show.
The sphere is king
The narrator's voice is so familiar

To me as a layperson:$500.000@PLperson could've gone 2feed the hungry n homeless!Agreed an adventure means not knowing wht happens next(Titan)But l wish:Alvin the very best;)Travel safe/remem safety first*
I bet these ppl hated the titan.... And for obvious reasons.
Guys, why can't we use this technology to find MH370, the Malaysian flight
35ft?
Stockton would have been able to take Alvin much deeper, these scientists need to live a little.
Yeah, WAY to much safety and pilot error. We can't hide from all the dangers in life. Plastic submersibles are cheaper, lighter, and extremely unsafe!! On our submersible, you're gonna get the thrill of a lifetime. Is this the dive that finally does it in? Maybe!! Now that'll be a quarter of a million dollars please, also can you sign this document here?
@@madezra64 You'll be able to go under the sea in an OceanGate sub for the rest of your life.
2500ft?
Lie
& what from all is a lie " Alvin " the search for the hydrog.bomb ?
Truth, the ocean doesn't exist it is all a plot by Luxemburg to give your children a college education
