Jon was a anti-cosmic satanist not a Hindu. He was just attracted to the vibe of darkness that the Hindu goddess Kali is. Kali in Hinduism is the feminine manifestation of destruction of God. But she is not evil or a demon. Everything in the universe has beginning, existence and destruction. I have no idea why Abhramic religions think that is evil. Entropy and destruction then rebirth is the nature of the universe.

You're absolutely right. All the difference is that abrahamic religions and hinduism have a fundamentally different vision of what good and evil is. What abrahamic religions consider destructive and evil is seen by hinduism as part of cosmic creation and nature. Then from the abrahamic perspective, some hindu deities are closer to evil deities or demons. That's why satanist may be interested in this dark vibe, but misunderstand that hinduism see it as positive and wealthy.

@@Vahisofficial super late, but yeah basically. Each dragon named , I believe, is connected as one, under the name Azerate the eleven as one. Kinda like how in Hinduism all gods are individuals BUT part of THE one, the source. Jon, if I remember correctly, was very interested in that aspect of the Azerate. It's kinda interesting, the aspect of universal balance that involves what many would label as evil or wrong. Personally I don't think this divines are evil or good. They serve a higher purpose than us, but a purpose still. WE may see , say, apep as an evil entity for trying to destroy the creations of Ra but destruction Is necessary. We're human, we're limited to our mortality and relatively uh... Limited view of this cosmos. We think of things being simply good or evil when there's so much more to it. Maybe even the gods' understanding of the way of fate is limited just not as much as ours as they are technically higher forms of life with a great sway on things. Their choice are of greater consequence. We think bad thoughts, nothing bad is guaranteed to happen. A god gets angry and the world could explode.

While it's nice to see metal bands try to branch out in their themes, its disappointing when folks don't bother to do even some basic research. As a indian metalhead, here's a couple of misconceptions I keep seeing:
    1) Shiva isn't a goddess. Shiva is a god. He's male not female. Behemoth made a mistake with that song Goddess Shiva and everyone's been confused ever since.
    2) While the idea of Shiva as a God of destruction and Kali as Goddess of Death/Destruction may make people somehow associate them to be demonic or evil like a Satan/Lucifer character that unfortunately is not the case. When we say Shiva is a god of destruction, it means he's a destroyer of evil. He's still a good guy. Same with Kali.
Here's a high level gist for those who are completely unfamiliar with Hindu mythology. There are three main gods in Hinduism known as the holy Trinity - Brahma (the creator), Vishnu (the preservor) and Shiva (the destroyer). The idea being that the universe goes through cycles of creation and destruction. In every iteration, the world progressively gets corrupted by evil. Vishnu keeps taking avatars (incarnations) to periodically destroy evil and restore balance to the world. Some of his famous incarnations are Krishna, Rama, etc. However, despite this the world always reaches a point where it is beyond saving. At that point, Shiva comes in and destroys the world to pave the way for Brahma to recreate a fresh universe. And the cycle goes on infinitely. Same with Kali, she's an incarnation of Shakti/Parvati who is Shiva's wife. She takes this war crazed incarnation to strike fear and destroy the demons but as per some versions of mythology she loses control in her rage form which is when Shiva intervenes to bring her back to her senses. She doesn't kill him.
It's impossible to explain three millenniums worth of mythology in a CZcams comments section but hopefully this is of some help to those interested. Cheers!

      @trvebm7812 Před 4 lety +10

Very well explained brother. As an Indian BMhead, I keep seeing these misconceptions. But what I understand is that these misconceptions are only with "mainstream" metal bands such as Behemoth. Bands like Rotting Christ, Dissection did some research. Cult of Fire and Raventale are other bands who have tried to represent our culture and history correctly. They have made tons of mistakes (like COF making Mahadev look like Satan and stuff like) but they learned and the next shows, they stopped doing that. I can't blame them as there is lack of clarity even in our own country. Very few people know our culture properly, most youths are in the impression that these are myths. So a for a band in Europe, trying their best to understand and represent our culture, if there is some mistake, I have no hard feelings.
But a band not willing to do any research is just bullshit. Mainstream is one reason and second reason is, Behemoth is NOT a black metal band (black metal is the only genre which embraces spirituality). No matter how much Satan and evil they can show, that is just a shit image. Nergal is an atheist, he wouldn't care much about our culture as much as christianity. Also he is a guy who plays country/pop music elsewhere. Poser.

@@trvebm7812 Shiva is also female in some really damn popular Japanese games, like the Final Fantasy series. They like to take stuff from other cultures there and just mash it together while changing everything though, so that could've been intentional. I think it's in part because of the name ending in -a, to most Europeans it's only natural that this would be a feminine name, but I guess they should do more research simply. I assume it's the same in Japan or any other culture. Hinduism is extremely complex, the main trinity is easy to understand, but the wealth of denominations, rituals associated with them and lesser gods/stories about them is astounding. It also seems underrepresented when it comes to mythologies shown in various forms of media/entertainment (most folks know way more about Egyptian or Japanese gods and myths). It's still fascinating nevertheless!

Hi, Indian atheist metalhead here. Kali is quite a big deal for Hindus. She is a dark goddess, one of the 10 forms of goddess Sati. Because of her dark nature she is worshipped by all the bad ass sadhus and tantriks (dark saints usually dealing with death and funerals). Usually animal worship is quite common during her Puja, apparently she desires sacrifice. There used to be human sacrifices, now of course they are illegal. During old times any sort of dacoity was done only after offering Puja to goddess Kali. Her nudity, her viciousness and her ornaments of body parts just add to her charm and is quite an exciting subject for Indian black metal bands. Her mythology is very very interesting but I saw it was already covered by another comment.
Anyways that's my first comment to your channel. I really love your videos. Like you all, even I was reacting to this song much to my pleasant surprise that Indian goddesses are also getting deserved traction in metal, there's a lot of subject matter here. Keep reacting, stay metal. 🤟

You are very correct that Hinduism is a very diverse religion and in reality it's a religion of many religions.
Your friend is a Hare Krishna they consider themselves Bhakti Yogi's. For them Krishna is the supreme Godhead. Krishna is the equivalent of Jesus for the Christians. All the other Hindu Deities according to Hare Krishna are Demi God's.
There are 3 main branches of Hinduism Vaishnavas (Vishnu is supreme) Shaivites (Shiva is supreme) and Shaktas (Goddess is supreme)
Your friend is a part of the Vaishnava tradition as Krishna is Vishnu.
Now Shiva is complex he is considered the God of Destruction. But not in the sense as we think of it. He is not considered a malevolent God. He is the God who transforms. The shedding on skin sort of speak. He is also very closely associated with meditation and yoga. Many Women will pray to Shiva for children he is the giver and taker
Shaktas are usually worshippers of Shiva's wife Kali or another incarnation Parvati, Durga. Kali is the Goddess of Time. She is believed to literate us from illusion. She is the destroyer of Demons. She is presented as scary but each intricate detail has deep symbolic meaning. The deer perceives the Lioness as scary where Cubs see a loving mother.
Also a side note many the demons in Hindu mythology are devoted to the Gods. The difference between a demonic Yogi and a faithful Yogi is the demonic want some form of power where as the faithful want nothing but devotion. This is a foreign concept that an evil demon can be devoted to God however look at all the evil men who profess to worship Jesus. In Hinduism you can be evil or even a Demon and still be devoted to God. In Christianity or Islam we may say "oh they don't truly believe in God"
Last thing although this has very familiar Hindu language this was not written from a Hindu perspective but an anti cosmic Satanist point of view.

      @Shanky836 Před 3 lety +2

You're partially right, but the three sects you describe, none of them perceive any one god to be greater than the other, the three are equally revered and people just choose the deity that resonates with their personality better.
You're on point on the symbolism of Kali and the anti-cosmic perception of this song, this is not a Hindu devotional perspective.
But it's good, you're not as blind as the creators of the video, to be honest.

As a Hindu and a metalhead, watching this reaction is the most ignorant experience I have had to go through.
1: Shiva is not a goddess, he's a god, a manifestation of creation itself. Shiva is genderless, Shankar is the male manifestation of Shiv.
2: Shiva is not killed by Kali, Kali is just one of the many female manifestations of Shakti (the opposite of Shiva). There is Brahma (the creator), Vishnu (the protector) - Krishna, Rama and others are various avatars of Vishnu, which he takes on to end evil in the world, but when evil flows over and out of control, that is when Shiva comes in to end all creation so that Brahma can begin anew.
3: Kali, on the other hand is the female version of Shiva laying waste to the demons and evil beings but in her frenzy she goes out of control and that is when Shiva comes in to stop her and save all the good of creation, he is not KILLED by her.
I hope people can understand more from this comment than the video, because anyone who thinks a 15 minute discussion of their perception of Hinduism is what Hinduism actually is then they're in for an extremely misinformed take on the whole faith.
In a phrase, Hinduism is humanity, there isn't a simpler faith, should one wish to delve into it. Taking the mythology out of it, you'd still be left with Hinduism.

Jon didn't do what he did to be popular either. He did it because it was his belief, just like you do what you do for yours. Just like your beliefs won't be affected by its popularity, neither should his. You said it wasn't cool. I'm pretty sure that opinion as well factors 0 into his decision. He stood by his beliefs just like you do and he took them to his grave. Whether you agree with his decision of not, that should be respected. Which is what the band was referring to in that letter. They weren't asking you to agree or think that it was cool taking his own life, just to respect him for sticking true to himself. Period.

There was a lot of suggestions at the time of Jon’s suicide (by his supporters) that he was ‘happy, focused and almost anxious to end his life on Earth’. I wasn’t there and never met him but ‘Reinkaos’ was panned hard by most Metal critics and Dissection had been kicked off of a festival by a promoter (supposedly at the bequest of Dave Mustaine, although he denied it).
I like Reinkaos despite the criticism that it was simplistic compared to his earlier albums, but I did read somewhere he was depressed about how the album was received. He also expressed regrets about his prison record and murder conviction hurting his personal and economic stability. He mentioned that getting kicked off the festival was depressing...
After reading those things, I wasn’t terribly shocked that he took his life. Saying he was ‘happy and focused’ would be the sort of thing your friends would say knowing how defiant and proud he was. It seems to me he could have produced another album with the hope of it being received better, if he wanted to go out on top. 🤷‍♂️

It is only then when Kali steps on Shiva when she snaps out of her berserk like trance. Many occultists and spiritual scholars see this an allegory of surrendering to the divine feminine in absolution and one shall be purified enough to attain enlightenment(Moksha), or resist, and your attachments will be your annihilation.

That's the whole problem with worshipping Kali, she is the goddess of death and chaos. Worshipping her either awakens you like no one else or destroys you by turning you insane because chaos and entropy are uncontrollable. The problem with Satanists is that they don't understand that Hinduism is about maintaining balance of energies. In Hinduism the Hindus just don't blindly worship a chaos deity because worshiping only death and chaos will disturb your energy because you won't have order and creation to balance it.
There's a reason why even many Hindus who worship Shiva and Kali often worship another deity like Vishnu or Brahma who represent creation and life, according to their belief these two energies balance each other. But the problem with Satanists is that in their quest to worship darkness they essentially follow an absolutely unbalanced religious system.

Jon already had contact with spirits beyond our realm, you got it wrong that he was facing some sort of dark spirit within himself.
He believed humans are prisoners of the Cosmic Order, what most people refer to as God. The illusions he talks about is that Jehovah is a good being and the creator. Through his conviction he saw through it and embraced chaos as a way to break through the illusions and take control.
This is a concept album, 11 songs for 11 gods. The entire album is a ritual unto itself.
218 was a reference to Current 218 or the Temple of the Black Light, which was the sect of satanism he aligned with. If you look for a copy of the Liber Falxifer it will give you a good understanding of what they are about (copies are very expensive).
It's a very difficult subject for sure, but I have a profound respect for Jon and his conviction. He lived true to himself and set out to take back control from what he thought was enslavement, and he achieved it. No living person can say with any authority that what he did was wrong, if you believe it was wrong that is your own belief.
I'm personally leaning to the side of thinking suicide is okay in this respect, if you go out on top and feel you've accomplished everything you need to in this world and you are happy, sure why not? To me it is selfish but I can't fault a man for his own convictions. Suicide is not cool if you do it out of depression.
Jesus basically committed suicide. He knew his paths and had many opportunities to avoid his own death but walked with conviction into it, and he accomplished everything he was supposed to in this world.
That's my perspective anyways, I'd be happy to discuss this in length with anyone.

@@Johnny8109 He wrote Reinkaos while in prison and even recorded some demos while in prison. He apologized and paid his debt to society, his fans understood that. Maybe his close relatives treated him differently, but that in my opinion would have driven him more into the Current 218 who don't really recognize murder as an absolute sin. From what I've read from his words and his band mates is that he wasn't at all depressed before his suicide, and the ritual he used to do it further lends to the thesis that it was a "religious" suicidal ritual. If you even look at the architecture and lyrics of Reinkaos deeply and try to understand what he was attempting with it, you can see how it was his magnum opus and I think he felt proud of it, so proud that he felt he would never surpass it. That's not a bad way to leave this realm.
There was a video on this channel earlier where Vin made fun of satanic lyrics dealing with the subject matter of taking control of your life. Vin said it's all up to God. If that's true, God chose to allow Jon to perform this ritual suicide at the precise moment. On the other hand, one could say Jon definitely did take control.
It is true that many ex-cons commit suicide. It is also true that all magical acts can be viewed as coincidence, and almost always have a plausible alternate explanation.

This analysis is done by a greek guy I guess, but is accurate. If you
want to know about all the other songs of the album, google "Dissecting
    Dissections' Reinkaos"
This song is dedicated to Kali, the Hindu goddess of death, destruction, time, transformation and liberation.
    Her
common image shows her as having four arms, but in her Maha Kali
("Great Kali") form she has ten arms, ten legs and ten faces.
Maha Kali, dark mother dance for me
    In
the Devi Mahatmya, Kali consumes the demon Raktabija and all his
duplicates, and then dances on their bodies. She dances in ecstasy and
is out of control. Shiva, her consort, fearing that she would not stop
until she destroyed the world, lay down on the battlefield and she
stepped on him. Kali realized that she had gone too far, and calmed
    down.
Let the purity of your nakedness awaken me
    Kali's
nakedness is very often mistaken by Westerners to represent sexuality.
However, this line gets it perfectly right: her nakedness - just like
her free, long hair - is a symbol of purity, because Kali represents the
ultimate Truth (Brahman), Nature or "the way things are".
Yours are the fires of deliverance which shall bring me bliss
Yours is the cruel sword which shall set my spirit free
Kali's fires are the fires of cremation grounds, and her sword represents the severing of ignorance and ego.
Devourer of life and death who rule beyond time
In thy name I shall fulfil my destiny divine
Maha Kali, formless one, destroyer of illusion
Your songs forever sung, the tunes of dissolution
In the Mahanirvana-tantra, Shiva praises Kali:
"[...]Thou art the Origin of and devourest all things[...]"
    "Re-assuming
after Dissolution Thine own form, dark and formless, Thou alone
remainest as One ineffable and inconceivable. Though having a form, yet
    art Thou formless[...]"
Kalika, black tongue of fire, embrace me
Kali appears in the Mundaka Upanishad as the black tongue of the seven flickering tongues of Agni, the Hindu god of fire.
    Jai Kalika! Jai Kali!
"Jai" means "Glory to" or "Hail" in Hindi, and Kalika is another name for Kali, meaning "the black one".
Smashana Kali, I burn myself for thee
"Smashana Kali" means "Kali of the Cremation Ground", so it makes sense to call her that when one "burns" oneself.
O dark mother, hear me calling thee
    Mahapralaya, bring to me
Through all illusions I shall see
I shall cremate this world and set my essence free
    As
I mentioned in the comment on Starless Aeon, Mahapralaya is the Great
Dissolution where all 14 realms (10 lower realms and 4 higher realms)
    are destroyed.
Therefore, in this verse Kali is requested to bring The End.
"O Kali, thou art fond of cremation grounds
So I have turned my heart into one, that thou may dance there unceasingly.
O mother, I have no other fond desire in my heart.
Fire of a funeral pyre is burning there."
This text was taken verbatim from the Devotional Songs of Rama Prasada (Ram Prasad).
Jai Maha Kali, Jai Ma Kalika [x2]
    Kali Mata, namo nama [x2]
The prefix "Ma" and the suffix "Mata" both mean "Mother".
"Namo namah" means "We bow/salute to thee" in Sanskrit (repeated twice in honor).
    Jai Kalika! Jai Kali!
At your left hand for endless victory
    Maha Kali, come to me
    Kali
has (at least) two left hands. The object that consistently appears at
one of her left hands is the severed head, and not her sword (images of
Kali in her terrible form put the sword at her upper right hand).
So in this verse Kali is requested to bring forth the microchaos, whereas in the next one:
    Jai Kalika! Jai Kali!
Mahapralaya will set our spirits free
    Maha Kali, come to me
She is asked to bring forth the macrochaos.
    Way to end an album.

Dissection and Jon are huge inspirations for Watain. Erik and Jon were very close, and Jon is the person who brought them into the Gnostic Satanist magical order (The Misanthropic Luciferian Order, aka Temple of The Black Light). Jon actually offered up his own girlfriend to be sacrificed in a ritual at one point before some of the less seriously devoted members ended up getting law enforcement involved (mostly out of fear for their own lives).
They know that they have a negative effect on the world and that is kinda their mission. They don't care, and they represent (among other things) hate for humanity and this world... aka "creation". They want it all to burn.

I respect you guys on a high level but I think you're misunderstanding Jon's beliefs. I personally would also want him to live on but for him he didn't commit suicide like how we view it, he commited suicide to enter another realm where he may join the anti cosmic forces in the last battle. For him being a human was being limited. I am very thankful what he had done throughout his life and even though I'll rather live on a world with him, we still have to take a look from his perspective. Also you have to look at his views from his perspective. Anti cosmic satanism isn't really bad, yes they do praise chaos, evil and darkness but then they view the cosmic gods as the bad ones as they enslave humans while lucifer for example rebelled against god and showed humans freedom by doing that. Also in the bible there isn't as much lucifer doing bad things such as killing the population but having god kill his "own creation" is much more described. In the anti cosmic world the anti cosmic gods are the ones who give humans freedom unlike the cosmic gods. Just a perspective to look at it from. But yh remember I still respect you guys and I do think you are highly intelligent but I thought in this video you didn't really put yourself in his place...

Kālī is the destroyer of evil forces. Also known as the Divine Mother or Mother of the Universe. Kālī is worshipped as a divine protector and one who liberates. Also, Shiva is a God. Not a goddess.
So now that you have read who Kālī is, does it change your interpretation of the song? For me it seems like he was asking for his soul to be liberated or protected from the darkness that was consuming him. Especially given his history that led up to this album. Just my thoughts though.

i totally agree, the way i see it this is more of a ritual Album, and the melodic riffs, i simply love them, so definitely my fav album by the band.

While your comment is interesting, you need to look at this song through the teachings of MLO. I have only brushed myself with the teachings of MLO while reading thorough interpretation of whole Reinkaos album with references to Liber Azerate so I don't want to preach here but from what I understood, Kali is viewed as literal goddess of death there and this song was invocation of Jon towards her.

Some of us just feels like we don't belong in this world.. like we are spiritually bound and it is a suffering words cannot describe.
It has nothing to do with upbringing or outside influences.
It is something we feel is so true, that our very essence twists in eternal agony.
And just existing in this reality is a prison for our very Soul.
And Death is the deliverance of our soul from the prison and lie that is life.

Hinduism sees time as an endless wheel turning, there's no beginning nor end. After death comes rebirth and after destruction comes creation. In that context, Kali (as a representation of time and death) is not a "bad" or "good" goddess, she just is. Good vs bad dichotomy is more of a Christian thing.
Jon didn't write the lyrics, his occult leader did. Jon did chose to use these lyrics for the last song in the album so maybe it symbolize his readiness for rebirth.

If you are interested in learning about Kali and the benevolent worship of the Dark Mother read up on Ramakrishna. She is called dark mother but dark is not to be taken as evil. She is portrayed as Black as she represents the Universe.

@@dan_the_pathmaster7934 well - Reinkaos it's my favorite one , but it's . a personal opinion, I suggested Reinkaos, because the content of the Lyrics and the context ideological that defines the last part of Jon's and band life - most of them are orations , invocations to the dark forces - truly ones, not this kind of "dark" "blasphemous" that most bands use - but, everyone has the right to preach what they want

A Pralaya is basically the destruction of the lower realms, the Mahapralaya is all realms, including the higher ones, so it's a complete and total destruction of the cosmos, which fits with the anti-cosmic Satanism of this band.
