Damn, Jon was such a ridiculously talented sonic craftsman. His ear for melody and subtle touches and nuances was incredible. A true musical artist of the highest order.
trve
One of my favorite Bands of all time
Yes I can see that lol
Storm Of Light's Bane, one of the greatest black metal albums ever.
Same
I don't like much the band itself but Storm of Light's Bane is one of the greatest black metal albums of all time.
Aw yeah Dissection. If you knew the things this guy did. He was a satanist, spent years in prison for murder where he wrote his final album then committed suicide. But a brilliant musician, that's for sure xD
ᛞᛖᚾᚾᛁᛋ ᛏᚱᛟᚹᚨᛏᛟ Jon sure could play the guitar.
ᛞᛖᚾᚾᛁᛋ ᛏᚱᛟᚹᚨᛏᛟ shhhhhh lol
Theres a lot more to that story than the overly simplified version out there. Jon went 'home', the MLO, current 218 and the temple of the black light are of interest to people interested in Jons life although id only recommend from a research perspective rather than encouraging anything 'deeper' 😉
Sure love that last album though!
Reinkaos is a masterpiece
It's pretty crazy that in 95 when Metal was considered "Dead", in Sweden this album was released along with Opeth - Orchid, Meshuggah - Destroy erase improve, In flames - The jester race, At the gates - Slaughter of the soul, Dark tranquillity - The gallery
All iconic albums that laid the foundation for metal as we know it today.
Mic Zen Spot on.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1995_in_heavy_metal_music
You're right, man! I just began to delve into metal in '95, back when I was 14/15. It was anything back then, but for sure: it wasn't dead :)
It was the 80s hair metal that was dead. In the underground there were great things happening.
True - these albums are pearls. 1995-2001 The golden era in music for me personally
Finally someone reacting to one of the best black metal bands in history. A truly historic band. So much... feeling in their sound.
In another of their songs, "Unhallowed", that guitar solo is just... tear jerking. You actually hear that guitar cry.
I had the privilege to see them live years back on their last tour. Just wonderful.
Thanks for reacting to it!
I ENVY YOU! Would kill to see them :-(
Eltio Poles I realize how lucky I am. Jon was the nicest guy backstage too. Just... Easy to chat with. ;)
i was present at their last concert.....majestic.....still waiting for the dvd
Isn't it out? The one in Stockholm?
My luck was that I had a good friend who was the singer of a band that opened for them so... backstage passes galore.
Oh I was so young. :D
I think that in dvd is the rebirth of dissection...the gig in stockholm in 2004 when jon was released from prison. I'm referring to the last concert in 2006
Dissection
Songs: Night's Blood or The Somberlain
Grindcore 1985 Somberlain is definitely an amazing one
Night's blood is my favourite song by them 😉🙃
The somberlain\../
Nights blood is my 2nd favorite song
A land forlorn is my favorite song by dissection
Finally! Dissection's Storm of the light's bane is top tier Black metal. Buuut, you need to listen to songs like Soulreaper, Night's blood or Thorns of crimson death to fully appreciate Dissection's greatness
Diego Molina Where Dead Angels Lie is a classic, so I'm still content. My fave off the album is Thorns of Crimson Death
Diego Molina Nights blood is god tier. But i would prefer something from Reinkaos for them just because it would be interesting to hear the lyric breakdown. Like Dark mother divine or black dragon.
They need to listen to the whole album! Still one of my top 5 fav albums of all time in all of music!
Am I the only one who thinks Retribution - Storm of the light's bane is the best song on the album? The verse riff my absolute favorite dissection riff
Soulreaper is just perfect!
Being that you guys seem interested in different views, and you're interested in theology obviously, you might find Jon's beliefs interesting. They're not really that know even among his fans, but they're pretty interesting. He wasn't simply a satanist, but was a sort of a gnostic, a polytheistic and dualist one, with a mesopotamian based syncretistic theology. The theology of the organization of which he was a part of, Misanthropic Luciferian Order, later renamed Temple of the Black Light - is that there exist two groups of gods - the chaos gods, and the cosmic gods. The chaos gods, dark gods, are older, at least the primordial Tiamat and Abzu, who in their dream produce several cosmic gods, the light gods (who then produce more cosmic gods). Tiamat and Abzu want to destroy the cosmic gods, and make more chaos gods, and there's a war. Cosmic gods win that war. The main and most powerful cosmic god (even though he is a second generation cosmic god) is Marduk. Marduk is the demiurge, who makes the cosmos. He can't make it out of nothing, so he makes it from Tiamat's dead body, and that's why the cosmos isn't perfectly ordered and good, but ambivalent, has both order and chaos. He wants to make some beings in the material world with minds, so those beings could worship and obey him. But to make humans who have a mind, he needs to do it by giving them a piece of divinity, and since no cosmic god wants to offer themself, he uses an imprisoned chaos god - Kingu, and that's why humans are called blood of Kingu. Also that's why humans often don't obey him, they have the anti-cosmic black flame inside them. Marduk presented himself to humans not just as Marduk in Mesopotamia, but also as the abrahamic god, Zeus, Ra, Ahura Mazda, Odin, Vishnu, etc. The most powerful of the chaos gods is Satan, who was know to people also as Samael, Typhon, Set, Ahriman, Loki, etc. After Satan the most powerful god is the goddess Lilith, also known as Kali, Aeshma, etc. Tiamat is called Tehom in the Bible in the beginning of Genesis, and Yahweh is praised several times for defeating (rebuking, taming) the mighty waters. Eschatologically, chaos gods will prevail, the black holes will destroy the cosmos, the chaos gods will destroy the cosmic gods, and everything will again be chaos. People who have their inner black flame burning will be spared and live on with chaos gods. And the black flame burns basically when people do what they want instead of obeying the rules, especially religious morality. The album Reinkaos is basically just religious songs which express his faith.
Spot on friend.
That was really informative...like, u just answered all the questions i had about different pantheons(and how they might be connected)
Similar, but his religion was the reverse of what Cathars (and Bogomils, and Tondrakians, and Marcionites) believed and what Zoroastrians believe, they all worship(ed) light and order, which they see as co-eternal with darkness and chaos, whereas Jon believed light and order to be an unfortunate creation of chaos and darkness, and he worshiped the latter. That's why "satanism".
To be honest, I doubt very much anyone believes in that. He probably used it as a background for his music and found it cool, but didn't actually believe in it. Impossible to say for sure, though.
You summed it up very well, I will attempt to revist the liber azerate. The last time I finished it my house flooded, I'm probably just being superstitious since i've read it before without anything bad happening but you can't help but make a connection sometimes.
Beautiful song!!!
Finally! Dissection 😍 I have a tattoo from the band on my arm and own their vinyl. Huge fan. Rest in chaos, Jon.
I am also a major DISSECTION fan. What is the tattoo?
R.I.K. Jon.
Got the Rebirth reaper across my chest
@@DRaven-of2lv badass I bet it looks awesome
@@TheAvailable43 the trident cross
When I listened to this song a lot back in the 90s where I still went to school, I always had this thought that the angels is a child (pure, innocent, untainted) and the darkness is the bad parts of our modern society (bad parenthood, street gangs, bullying at school etc.) and the innocent child ends up getting drawn to that darkness, being grasped by it and dying as a result of it. The dead angel is later described so beautifully, snow white dress with crystals of ice and roses so red, as if one would remember what it once was.
:: spot on ::
Nice one!
this is a much better interpretation
FUN FACT : The singer/guitarist of Dissection was a member of the Temple of the black light ( Misanthropic Luciferian Order ) , just like Watain's singer.
Walfar Member? Jon was one of the leaders.
@@korvkioskshelvete nope. The current leaders are IXAXAAR, N-A-A-218, Shamaate, and Victor Draconi.
Muerte ixaxaar is a website, naa 218 and victor draconi are the same person and Johan Lahger focuses more on the thursian current. NAA 218 gave up his leadership title to someone else in 2008.
I have never clicked so fast to one of your videos and screaming at the same time
Dissection - Black Dragon.
anything from dissection*
Best song.
we envoke Thee
Im so happy you guys did this song, one of my favorite bands.
Holy (?) shit....Dissection. Awesome. Pure Kvlt.

Hey Vin and sori
Finally u reacted to a song for dissection.
Though thorns of crimson death is the best song for them xD
Khader Al Kilani I agree but you really should do the whole album to appreciate this
Khader Al Kilani I concur. First Dissection song I heard 13 years ago
Oh yes please thorns of crimson death, masterpiece!
Thorns or Nights Blood would probably be more up their alley musically. Great songs
The Somberlain and Starless Aeon sre great songs too
John was damn talented singer, songwriter and guitarist. Sadly he got heavily involved with gang activities and everthing went in a downward spiral from there. He left us with one of the best albums I've ever heard though
"Gang activities"? He got too deep into drugs and satanism. But I guess without it he wouldn't create all this magical music.
He went out in a way he felt was honorable. He made the choice and that's all that matters. I'm just thankful he left us with his art.
It's my dad who's screaming that high pitch in the background. My dad and the vocalist was good friends and when they recorded where dead angels lie the vocalist could't scream that loud but he ask my dad to scream as loud as he can so he did it. And after that nobody knows that it is my dad who's screaming in the background. I'm telling the truth. My dad told me that many times.
It’s a shame your dad lied to you lol
That's awesome man! I believe you dude. These things happen on albums. I love that scream so much too. Hails to your dad.
@@01theyounggun considering dissection were a small band in 1995 and they were in sweden and this guy is swedish too i find it completely plausible
@Joey Turkey what a weak insult are you twelve?
@@01theyounggun lmao its a true story.
Yeess!!! U guys are awesome!! Finally some Dissection!! Rip Jon!
Hugely influential band in the 90’s. Can’t believe you covered this. Fantastic.
Please check out Dimmu Borgir’s Kings of Carnival Creation. Way better than the last song you did by them and more representative of their catalog.
finally! yes.... KINGS! of the carnival.... creation. Such a good track
A bad ass track, I'd add Spellbound and Mourning Palace to that list. Oldies, but classic Dimmu is (imho) the best Dimmu
Kjell Kristian Heidal what about Insight And the Catharsis? Anything where Vortex sings is gold.
Jake Sacher, you are so right. Vortex is one of the reasons for my love of Borknagar, haha.. his voice is amazing!
I also support a Kings of The Carnival Creation reaction. Best song from Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia
I just wanted to say that I really enjoy your content. You consistently put out 30 + minute interesting dialogue about or relating to these songs. I hope that you're enjoying doing these videos and you're not gonna get burned out :)
This was a pleasant surprise. Ive been listening to more dissection recently and this is a favorite for sure.
I do love how open Sori has gotten throughout the months though! Its wonderful to see her able to really express herself more!
Smithysmithin they should probably revisit a song they weren’t too much into. Maybe they’ve had a change of heart.
You are all around the reaction channels.
Still making the campaign for Draconian? :D
Vicente Raíra de Jesus Freitas i most certainly am! Im everywhere haha. If its metal reactions, im sure to be there. Requesting Draconian, most likely.
This band is the epitome of perfect melodic black metal. Jon was a one of a kind writer, not to mention his unique voice. I fell in love with black metal with this band, and to this day, their last album is the one I consider life-changing, musician wise. Can't really put it to words how much it means to me that you covered this song, even though many will not understand the beauty of it, and the uniqueness it represented back in the 90's.
Been waiting for you guys to do this song!
awesome idea to dissect this Dissection song!! You guys are so laid back!
she likes the more mainstream part of the music, and hes more into the deepest stuff. she pays more attention to the imagery and hes more aware to the details AND LYRICS. Q: )
funny to perceive all of that .
Black metal forever! And you are correct, a decent amount of black metal pulls from pagan folklore and the influence can be heard in this music. Here are some more black metal recommendations:
Dissection - Black Dragon, The Somberlain, or Retribution - Storm of the Light's Bane
At the Gates - Slaughter of the Soul
M8l8th - Beyond the Twilights, or Scum
Immortal - Withstand the Fall of Time, or Mighty Ravendark
Mgla - Exercises in Futility IV
Tribulation - Here be Dragons
Burzum - Beholding the Daughters of the Firmament, Dunkelheit
Marduk - Bleached Blones, Frontschwein, Christraping Black Metal
Peste Noire - Dueil Angoisseus
Goatmoon - Black Metal Winter
Satanic Warmaster - Black Metal Kommando
I can understand wanting to recommend black metal, but how about NOT suggesting Nazi bands?
Only maybe two of those bands are legitimate NSBM. Even so, I am quite clearly not a national socialist, and I think that the music can be enjoyed while not being one. Black metal has always embraced pernicious ideas, and that would lead to an interesting discussion in a reaction video anyway. Out of NSBM bands, I simply enjoy the unfettered emotion that gets transferred over to their songs, as it is difficult to fake it. I highly doubt anyone who is open-minded enough to watch Vin and Sori's videos are going to be a Nazi anyway.
At the gates are not blackmetal at all, just had to Put that out there
Correct on the At the Gates. Also with regards to the explicit NSBM on that list, I'm fairly certain Vin and Sori have no interest in spreading that kind of hateful propaganda.
Im biased from when they were much blacker in their founding, back when they were still called Grotesque. I understand that they're not melodic death, though I think that Slaughter of the Soul is more black metal than anything else, at least in my opinion. It has that classic 90's black metal riff running through the entire thing.
Thanks for the promo guys! And appropriately on a Dissection song! Hahahaha definitely sets the mood before anyone checks out my work! “ “Terror and a cow in a field”😂😂 I can’t get over that
I love Salty, Sparky, and Chip and how you guys incorporate them into the videos. Love the videos!
“It is our choices, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.”
~ Albus Dumbledore
Gorgoroth - Possessed by Satan
Deathspell Omega - Carnal Malefactor
Gorgoroth- "carving a giant"
+1 for Deathspell Omega's "Carnal Malefactor"
Live version with Gahhl is best
They really need to do Deathspell Omega. I'm sure they'll get alot out of the writing style.
I gotta hand it to you guys, of all the reactors on here, you were the first I've seen cover Diamond Head and Dissection
And just 15 min in this is probably my favorite discussion by you guys so far.
Thanks for being open & intelligent people...humanity could use more talks like this.🤓
This song is what got me into metal when i was about 7-8 years old, amazing song
Jon one of the most underrated frontman ever, such an amaizing writer and guitarist
I'm sooo happy yall chose this song. My fav Dissection song
I spent my teenaged years with these guys up in Strömstad. we played in bands and often hung out. Dissections music has a profound impact on my teens and i think of those memories with fondness. Sitting in Jons room and listening to Twisted Sister and Unleashed and drinking 2,8 beer. Good times. hail metal.
Please “Melechesh - Multiple Truths (Lyric Video)” an Assyrian band that influenced heavily by Mesopotamian mythology and eastern riffs.
Agreed! They should definitely do Melechesh. I've mentioned them in a couple video comments, glad I'm not the only one asking for them!
second melechesh but they have much better songs than multiple truths... if you suggested them because of the lyrics, fair enough, they are pretty interesting! but musically they have a ton of better songs...
Luemm3l Musically they have far superior songs than Multiple Truths of course but yes because of the lyrics I suggested that one.
Agreed!
They were also the first black metal band in Jerusalem, and they basically got kicked out of the city because of their music and they went to Northern Europe (I think the Netherlands). But yea, they are an awesome band that really shows you don’t have to be singing about Satan or Scandinavian paganism to be black metal, and that the Middle East is quite an inspiration for black metal. I agree Multiple truths would be a good first song for @Vinand Sori to react to.
Dissection definitely had a heavy classical element in their music. It’s one of the reasons they’re considered one of the pioneers of the melodic black/death metal genres. Jon was an absolute musical genius. Also, if you want to delve deep into Jon’s spiritual beliefs, review something from the Reinkaos album.
Reinkaos was a concept album, not necessarily his beliefs.
Became a patron keep up the good work!
I am so absolutely stoked about you two reviewing this amazing, timeless song by the great Dissection!! I am so happy for your amazing reactions. Thank you and I also care about Sparky and Salty . I can't wait for your next vid. I recommend At The Gates "Blinded by Fear", MayheM "The Freezing Moon" and Satyricon "Fuel for Hatred". 👍🏼👍🏼😊
Haven't even listened yet, but super hype to watch this now! Also this is black metal, so probably should of been Blackfire?
bmfan let that be an even more evil song by them lol. Maybe The Somberlain, A Land Forlorn, or Maha Kali.
Blackfire is more for explicitly anti-Christian songs, whether black, death, or whatever. Even though this is a black metal song, that doesn't mean it's a blackfire show song.
Opeth-The Drapery falls
Before I head off to bed, just wanted to say another brilliant video from you two! Loved this song for yeeears.. so very cool you reacted to it! And ofc, Vin.. you know what's coming ;) Wardruna - wink wink- oh! Also! Wolfheart "Routa Pt. 2", also very melodical and just brilliant song!
OMG finally you guys
Great song and the album is also killer
Now we are talking, did meet Jon at midnight massacare. He was a very intelligent person and I love all dissection, to bad he is isent around no more, look up there last record Reinkaos Maha Kali, Dark Mother divine. Look up his brother Emil band Deathstars strongly recomended.
Don't forget the AMAZING Black Dragon.
Good ol' Dissection. I remember what was probably my first comment on your videos, where I mentioned Dissection. This was before I started requesting Agalloch almost every day (consider this a request too), so on your first "Christians react to Black Metal video" I guess.
As I said at the time, I didn't listen to Black Metal, until I heard this song, I just loved how beautiful the melodies were, while the whole thing still sounds malignant at the same time. I mentioned it a few times after, when you delved into Black Metal, because I feel like it's a great starting point to get into the genre, based on my experience I guess.
So yeah, glad you enjoyed it a little bit at least. :)
I enjoyed this one. Thanks
for me, a thrash/death-metalhead, Dissection-song choices would be "Reinkaos"->the song on the album itself), "Black Dragon" and "Dark Mother Divine", and ofcourse, "God of Forbidden Light" would you guys please react to these? :>
Congratulations you did a real good mtal band.
Never thought I would see a reaction video of Dissection by you
Solid. Surprised you did this one, but pleased.
Great video guys, you really delved into the topic of the song and brought into real terms which is in contrast to their transcendal scope of the mastermind of chaos himself jon nodtveidt (the frontman) i think there was a missed opportunity to discuss jon himself in this video in relation to the concept here as he himself you could say was more than intrigued with darkness,I imagine you will discuss jon and his personal life further in another video, aswell as talk about how Watain came to be the ones to keep the flame jon started in his mortal life held to a high standard, this song is one of the lighter dissection songs actually, but with a band like dissection one song is not enough to know their whole art,But you did a good job of nailing the folky approach to this particular song, maha khali or the somberlain would be good songs of dissection for the future as they are more heavy and contrast to this one,I'm glad you didn't dislike the song even if you didn't really love it
Marklikesriffs does the "Black Flame" have something to do with recall of the entirety (of past lives'); a tool to build upon the complete memory, as an advanced starting point/building block? I thought I had read about that somewhere before. Their guitarist held a very unique religious belief. The Singer of Demoncy had only slightly grazed upon the topic of "past-life regression" or recall. Imagine a toddler; harnessing the knowledge of various, adult-life experiences. That would be insane!
This, exactly. I would like to add Nights Blood from the gold era and Starless Aeon from the new era to this list. Masterpieces. Jon himself is still controversial to me, though his beliefs are not that common, so it was always intrigueing to me.
I love sparky and salty and chip and chirpy the smoke detector
This is an amazing song. So much feelings and "beauty" in it...
This band got me through some rough times in my youth. This was the most listened song. Brings back so much memories...
Really great band actually
Nice.. Dissection... try some more songs.. maybe Black Dragion or Maha Kali... Nights blood or Crimson death if u feeling edgy ;)
This is a masterpiece! Unfortunately for others, they will never be able to experience this song live! The ambient build around this song is just epic!
I miss Jon everyday! He was a good friend and his musical talents was abowe all else.....
Thx for finally Dissection's reaction. They've a great story with satanism. Reinkaos is an album writing with a lot of MLO references.
And just a information...In satanism the figure of a woman have a mystical and magical symbolism. Many times are talking about the scarlet woman who appears in Apocalypse.
Please do Architects Doomsday! It's such a strong/emotional song if you know the backstory to it, I also think it'll make you want to check out more of their stuff. One of the best metalcore bands period
Love your channel guys! If you'd like however to experience what Dissection was really about, both musically and lyrically, I would suggest you to listen to Soulreaper or Maha Kali. Of course, there are other Dissection's masterpieces, but to me these two songs are essential for the band's style and agenda. All the very best to you!
i Recently found your channel and am really surprised the bands you guys are reacting to
I care about sparky and salty :)
And Chip!
I mean, no disrespect to Vin and Sori, but Sparky and Salty is the only reason I watch this channel. They are the highlight of my day. People just don't understand them, but they whisper to me their sweet darkness...
That's why I suggested a lava lamp to complete the numerologies, but Chip is alright, as long it's complete. It's no sacred geometry anyway.
Samael = antigod
Emmure = solar flare homicide
Testament = dog faced gods
White zombie = blood milk and sky
Woa this is the earliest I've caught one of these
So I will take this moment to remind you that you need Agalloch in your life.
See you at the fireside!
Thank you for this song of my childhood, she is 20 years old and i still see myself being subjugated by this classic, thanks again. Lethe from Dark Tranquility, please Sori.
Dissection Rules!
Hail the mighty dissection!!!!!!!
I had the chance to see once Dissection in live in France in 2005. It was a great show! Great musician.
Yessss!
Now you just need to hear Carcass...😊
Inferi - behold the bearer of light
That homeboy Jon was a dark soul. He committed suicide a while back. He was a deep dude.
yall are awesome
A spell was cast..the sky turned red..the angels heart was froze to ice.. beautiful just beautiful
React to Dissection - Thorns Of Crimson Death - Rebirth of Dissection 2004 HD. Please please please!!!! It is awesome.
Candlemass - Samarithan
FINALLY OH MY GOOOD
Woah , f**k yeah! At last , gonna have a nice half an hour with this!
You also have to consider their age when writing this song!
How old were they ?
Yo guys need to do
Dark funeral - The Arrival of Satan Empire
Wow🤘👹...great choice for a band,I first listen to this song in '98 from 'Death Is Just The Beginning 4' compilation tape...really awesome band, unfortunately jon nordveidt who's on guitars/vocals killed himself in the early '00s...
I'd like to suggest another dissection song for you guys to review,Maha Kali from their final album Reinkaos...
When 'Storm of the light's bane' was released in 1995 (yeah, I remember this, I've bought it on the cassette), this song was referred as the first black metal ballad in history :)
I really love it when Vin dives into Theology and the Bible, I learn tons of cool stuff. So I will in that case recommend Dark Funeral - Open The Gates. Hopefully a good one for you guys.
Igorrr - Ieud.... audible art
E'Osiris igorr Is amazing
I've been sayin this for a while haha
Igorrr is love!!
Please, please, please, and PLEASE listen to Meshuggah 'New Millennium Cyanide Christ'....... maybe Vin will learn how to play air guitar better by watching this video...... be sure to do the official video version.....

I've been watching for awhile now and I enjoy how you both talk about the songs. I enjoy seeing your perspectives on them.
If I may I have a couple song suggestions for you both to react to. First is Scarlet Letter, by Adestria. Second would be Kings of the Carnival Creation, by Dummy Borgir.
I hope to see one soon, keep doing what you're doing.
Adding a connection to an older video you guys did, members of Dissection went on to play in Watain.
React to Mayhem, Burzum or Bathory, plsss. It could be too heavy but.. Plsss
Haha yeah that could be fun
I'd love to see their reaction to a Filosofem song !
Walfar not much to react to. Jesus tod is one of my favorite black metal tracks but it wouldnt make a very interesting reaction video (plus there aren't many songs they can react to from that album its mostly atmospheric ambient stuff lol)
Jose Arce Burzum was rarely heavy, but it's grim atmosphere is just amazing.
Those bands aren’t that heavy.
Finally!!!!...not song I asked, but any Dissection song works.
Hey great song pick!
I just came across your channel today and i am really enjoying it and subscribed! You should react to Protest the Hero - C'est La Vie. Probably wont get any other requests for it but they are awesome and nobody else does reactions for them. Thanks.
Opeth - The Moor
Symphony X - Paradise Lost
Dream Theater - In the name of God
Eluveitie - The call of the Mountains
Powerwolf - Raise your fist, evangelist
Epica - Consign To Oblivion (Live Zenith)
Check out Mgła - exercises in futility VI - a supreme black metal experience.
Oh great, I was hoping you'd do this band
Jon Nödtveidt was one of the best guitarists in metal in the 90s and was born to write melodic black metal tunes.. amazing live gigs
