    Thank you for this very thorough review! I have been looking at this laptop, and was disappointed that the varient with the 4070 wasn't available on the website in the US. I have contacted Lenovo multiple times via customer support, and was unable to confirm when, or even if it would come to the us. Your review is the only one I have seen to specifically mention the release date to best buy! Thank you so much!

    Thanks, Andrew. I was waiting for the shortened review after the live event. As a creator, I am interested in this unit, but, as you mentioned, I can't find it with 64 GB and the 4070 combo. Do they feel this configuration will not perform well? You mentioned that you would ask Lenovo about these upgrades. It appears others have similar concerns. I might have to go to the Legion Pro 9i.

    As always, great review. However, I wish reviewers emphasized more on the shortcomings of the different display technologies and how they manifest themselves in each model. For instance, everyone praises OLED panels but not as many talk about text clarity (very important in my view). Even at 4k resolution in small 15inch or 16inch displays OLED text clarity is not as high as in LED (Mini-LED in this case) panels, although for many users the difference is likely imperceivable (as always, it all depends on what your benchmark is). Mini-LED monitors are also far from perfect. In this particular implementation (but also in other Mini-LED implementations), there seems to be backlight bleeding in SDR mode (i.e., when FALD is not activated). Also, having FALD always on is not recommended. So consumers think they buy an amazing display almost as good as OLED. In my view this is not the case, and I certainly would not be happy with toggling the HDR option on and off every time I want to consume HDR content. Therefore, despite its limitations, OLED remains the best display option at the moment (and I agree with your comment in another video that OLED burn in seems to be less of an issue these days). So, let's not forget that for regular use the Mini-LED panel behaves as a regular LED panel. Relative to OLED, Mini-LED has drawbacks that for some may be deal-breakers (such as backlight bleeding or blooming, the latter already mentioned in the video) or advantages like improved text clarity and higher brightness, which depending on the content, can give Mini-LED a noticeable advantage over OLED. Furthermore, I think OLED panels are more consistent with regards to the picture quality, whereas Mini-LED panels can be a hit or miss, depending on the implementation (and this goes back to the backlight bleeding and blooming issues described above). As for me, I hope Lenovo offers a 4k OLED version of the model. Otherwise, the laptop seems to be great on so many other aspects.

    Hey Andrew! Great unboxing as always my man! However I noticed on this video as well as your live unboxing on this unit, you mentioned you had the 4050 version, which if you look on Best Buy’s website, is the non-Mini LED version. The Mini LED version is the 4060 model for $1,899 (as of 5/19/2024.) I almost made this same mistake as well when I was about to order this. But then I seen that the $1,699/4050 version is non LED and ONLY 400 nits of brightness instead of 1200. Just wanted to make you aware that your unit is the base/non mini LED one. I noticed this on your live unboxing when you turned the brightness up and it wasn’t really that bright.

    Excellent pc. Camera and mics are good. Speakers were excellent, better than the Mac. Keyboard layout is very good. Numpad laid out correctly. Ram might be soldered in but it should be more than enough for most users for the life of this kind of unit. Display is very good. The only negative you did not point out is the soldered wifi card but it is very minor as the card that is in there is plenty fast and users will not notice the difference between this and a 7 wifi card. Price is reasonable. Think about it you mentioned that the Mac book pro for $3400 dollars one could purchase two of these and still have money left over. Excellent review.

    Hey Andrew!
    What do you recommend, a yoga pro 9i with ultra core 9, 32gb ram, mini-led touch, rtx 4060 (2300€) or Legion slim 7i glacier white with 13700h, 32gb ram, rtx 4060, 3200 res screen (1550€).
    The Yoga is brand new with 3 years premium care warranty, while the Legion only has a one year warranty, and is from ebay, apparently had faulty ram which was repaired (checked repair ticket with lenovo) , the seller mentioned the faulty ram but claims the laptop was unused.
    I would mainly use it for music production but like doing some color grading when I have the time. I don't game.
    I wanted something that was closest to a Windows Macbook Pro laptop. (good screen, build, speakers, etc)
    The Legion just popped up and the difference in price is significant (800€)
    I would love to know what your recommendation would be. Is the Yoga pro 9i worth 800€ more?
    (I still have a chance to return the Yoga and buy the Legion if its still available)
    I would really appreciate your advice.
    Thank you and all the best!

    I'm currently watching your video on this laptop. I have the 64GB ram 4070 version with the mini led touchscreen (only available in europe i guess... Hi from France ), and I'm quite loving it, it's not perfect notably the noise when you're in performance mode is quite loud but in intelligent mode it's way more manageable and I get almost the same perf. The HDMI 2.0 disguised as a 2.1, the quite slow SD card reader and the only one TB port when we know that intel's cpu supports natively at least 2. Overhaul i'm loving it with a few minor gripes.

      How is the fan noise in silent mode? Did you try to use it with a USB-C power supply?

    • @Silver-xo3ur
      @Silver-xo3ur Před 22 dny +2

      @@cptcrogge Hi ! I'm gonna be quite long but i'll try to describe it correctly. (And i'm sorry if there is mistakes, english isn't my native language and isn't well taught here)
      Also a disclaimer because i probably have a differant tolerance to noise than you have, and i may not have the same workload as you. So don't trust me too much.
      I won't talk about the ultra quiet mode available in the bios (and only the bios, i didn't found it anywhere else) because i didn't try it but i suppose that for light to medium load it's even better for silent seeker.
      First I'll talk about light load like web browsing, video streaming, powerpoint, word....
      In this laptop there is 3 power mode that you can access both via windows or lenovo vantage (their software)
      The first one is the energy saving mode where as you guessed is the most low powered but also the most silent one. At more or less 40 centimeter which is a little bit more than a foot it's close to dead silent, but not dead silent, if you're in a really silent room you'll probably slightly hear it. But it's not a problem to be honest because it's not really high pitch or anything so you could consider it silent.
      The second is called normal use in windows and intelligent/auto in vantage, it's still quite silent really close to the first mode in light use but it can be slightly more hearable in like 4k hdr 10 bit video streaming but even so there is probably sound to hear which is way louder than the fan.
      Performance Mode is actually similar in light load thought slightly worse in the video streaming explain above.
      In medium to heavy load (depending on your workload and own opinion) like video editing in davinci resolve, photo editing, light gaming (like indie game such as Celeste, Hollow Knight or Abzu) or programming and slight compiling.
      For energy saving mode it's close to the Auto mode in the worst light load so you can hear it if your environment is silent but really manageable and if you have headphone or iem you won't hear it even without music.
      Auto mode is getting noticable i could say it's mostly fine but when it get spikes of uses, fans ramp up and it can be anoying for some, to me it's
      perfectly find and doesn't bother me nor the poeple around me.
      Performance mode start to get awful and is clearly noticable but i would say it's bearable.
      Under heavy load to really heavy (It still depends on your workload) like unreal engine 5.4 or optimised like shit game, namely ark ascended.
      Saving mode can actually struggle but still perform surprisingly well and can still run those if you don't go to hard on presets and render quality.
      I was able to play fine (not the best but playable) ark ascended on 1920x1200 in medium presets with dlss on balanced and frame gen on.
      And to my surprise it was really not bad in term of noise, it's hearable yes. But if i had to make a comparison it's like a quite low pitch wind/noise. It's noticeable to me but really not bothering and it almost disapear with iems or headphones without music.
      In auto mode, it start to get noisy and can be bothering in extreme load in ark 1920x1200 in high preset, dlls balenced frame gen on it was really playable but it started to get noisy and bothering if not wearing headphones. But it was the maximum noise that i got. In the auto mode UE5.4 and ark where the worst in noise.
      For the performance mode... Just avoid it... it's like an old ps4 that make a turbine sound when starting, i'm quite exagerating but it's really annoying and to me it's too noisy to be usable. But maybe for some...
      To note that in perf mode you get access to easy gpu overclocking so maybe in some rare cases it's of use.
      For the USB C Charging Both the usb c and the thunderbolt support 100w via the power delivery standard.
      I tested it with a 65w PD power brick and a 160w max output with a 140w max per port (so imited to 100w) and both worked well. I even did my ark ascended energy saving mode test with my 160w charger and i didn't lose battery at least for the short test that i did.
      You could consider the provided 170w charger to be mandatory for heavy load if you want to be safe.
      To me the energy saving mode might be enough for almost any regular user that don't need to play unoptimised games or use UE5, and will be near perferct in term of noise.
      Hope that helped ! If you have other questions i'll try to answer them the best way i can.

    • @cptcrogge
      @cptcrogge Před 21 dnem

      @@Silver-xo3ur Merci! I appreciate the insight, for daily work the energy saving mode seems to be a great choice I love quiet devices.
      The USB-C information is useful as well because I often travel 2-3 days and need a leighweight charger.
      Last question, is the display comfortable for the eyes?

    • @Silver-xo3ur
      @Silver-xo3ur Před 19 dny +1

      @@cptcrogge Hello ! Sorry for the late answer i'm in my exam period.
      As for the display i find it really comfortable it can go really bright in sdr and even brigher in hdr. It can get really dimmed as well if needed. pixel density is really good as well with almost 236 ppi so the text clarity is good. The only two annoyinng thing about the display is that first is that it's not standard, 3200 x 2000 is sometimes not well handled by some software, mostly fine but it can happen. The second is that the refresh rate isn't well managed, there is 3 modes but only 2 are availables by software, you have a 60hz, a 165hz and an auto mod that only seems to be a vrr or adaptive sync mode at 165hz it doesn't seem to dynamically change the refresh rate to reduce power consumption and doesn't for exemple switch to 60hz when unplugged or something. And the only way to get access to the 3 modes seems to be via the keyboard shortcut Fn + R.

    The thing about the Asus ROG line is that, even in the 16 inch model, their keyboards are centered because they don't have a number pad. And as far as laptop keyboards go, they're damn good to type on (I'm currently using the 2022 G14).
    I'm a programmer so maybe a good, centered keyboard is more important to me than to most people but I thought it was worth mentioning. OTOH, I read that the G16's ram is soldered, so you're stuck with whatever they give you, and I'd rather max out the ram for running VMs and auch but again, that's just me.

    Great review, as always! I've determined that my next computer, a desktop replacement, will likely be a Lenovo. I've always been told that the differences in the manufacture and production processes between their ThinkPad line and the others (IdeaPad, ThinkBook, Yoga, etc.) go beyond ISO certifications. I have been led to believe that quality drops off precipitously outside of the ThinkPad line, and that the others are actually produced from start to finish by different manufactories. Do you (or does anyone) have thoughts to share about this? Thanks!

    What a Fantastic laptop this really is Andrew!! I was blown away from everything this new model for 2024 has to offer. If I had to nitpick it, it would be the soldered Wi-Fi 6E integrated card but that's about it. Great port selection, super bright miniLED display, camera and internal mics are good, 6-speaker system which blows away the MacBook Pro Finally in my opinion as it sounds louder. The speaker quality might however be the same as the Asus ROG Zephyrus G16 at least to my ears. Love the Faster RAM even though it's soldered in but that seems to be the trend these days so make sure you upgrade it during the ordering process through Lenovo's website. The extended battery life is another welcomed surprise. So out of 5 stars, I would give the 2024 Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i a 4.5 due to the soldered Wi-Fi card. Immaculate review Andrew! You always go way above and beyond with these reviews and your subscribers in the end benefit from your brilliance!! 👏😁

    The only problem is the G16 is with RTX4060, so possible 3rd fan issues. (I am mix/master engineer)

    Hi @andrewmarcdavid, can you please try & tell us if there is any pen/stylus support on this device and which ones are compatible? Lenovo doesn't list any on their homepage.

    • @SOG989
      @SOG989 Před měsícem +1

      Like last years model, I think that information isn't listed because it doesn't support active stylus/pen. If it has touch, then your fingers or Capacitive pen should work fine.
      I use last year's 14 inch model, a good capacitive pen I found is the Nillkin Stylus Pen but try others too.

    Please, correct me if I'm wrong, but according to my 20 minute research, which ended by asking Chat GPT, the PWM frequency of 4840 Hz is perfectly fine and no flicker would be noticed by most users (exception are those with superhuman eyes apparently) and thus won't cause any eye strain. Taking this into consideration, I think it's incorrect to consider it a con. Did you notice lower frequencies at lower brightness levels?

    It looks almost identical to the 2023 version.
    Apart from the HDMI 2.1 port, it looks like not much has changed, but there are some quotes saying that you can't get the full bandwidth, so even that may not have changed. The new CPU isn't much faster than the 13th generation.
    We will have to see in 2025 if Arrow Lake or Zen 5 and Nvidia 5000 series GPUs brings a bigger advantage.

    Does anyone know what market the Tidal Teal and 4070 models are available in? I've been watching this laptop for months now and the best spec and customization color don't seem to be available in US, UK, or Canadian markets, so I'm curious as to if they're even making the Tidal Teal and 4070 models anywhere. Andrew, have you gotten any info from Lenovo on this? They've done this for 2 years in a row now, sending their best models to reviewers that nobody can even buy, but it seems that wasn't the case for this review which is a relief.
