Funny how haikyuu fans always give contexts about all Japanese things/symbolisms and now coach gives haikyuu fans the context of minus tempo's history. Gotta love sharing knowledges.

Yes learning these details from Coach has made me enjoy and appreciate the series that much more 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
@@Phoenix-hp5rj That’s actually not true, furudate is refered to as man, so he is a He (even if his gender was never officialy revealed)
@@Phoenix-hp5rj their gender was never officialy revealed, some articles/haikyuu fandom site refered furudate as a man. But we shouldn't think about that too much, since maybe furudate just wants some privacy, just appreciate and respect their work.

Hey coach so just to clarify, Takeda sensei is the official coach of the team since he's a teacher at the school. So even though Ukai does all the practical coaching, only Takeda sensei can call time outs since it's his name on the paperwork. Great reaction and insight as always!
That's actually really interesting ty
One of my favorite details about Ukai is that he does all of that without even being officially employed

Haikyuu: "Minus Tempo!"
Me: "Sounds fake."
Coach Donny: "Oh. Minus Tempo sounds like what the 1950s JP women's team did to beat the USSR who had a height advantage."
Just a tiny thing, but it’s so adorable: I noticed how, once the guys stopped bothering Kiyoko and were off, Hinata started saying “Ki(yoko)” at first but then switched to “Shimizu-senpai” (checked the manga in Japanese, it’s also written there). I guess Hinata hears Tanaka and Nishinoya call her “Kiyoko-san” all the time and it sticks, but “Shimizu-senpai” is more respectful since it’s her family name, plus he’s her underclassman, and he opts for that instead :")
I also noticed in this episode he wanted to call out to Hyakuzawa before he got called away by his team. He probably wanted to make friends
Shoyo is such a good guy indeed
Bro i never even noticed this and ive seen haikyuu like 20 times💀 that just shows how there can always be things u can miss in this anime
I thank you friend for this insight , just made me love Hinata more😍
@@satyarth1804 we need a hinata being cute/sunshine compilation instead "badass spikes/scary eyes" compilation :D
Hinata mentioning Sugawara told him to aim at a specific place and then going "Well, It's not like I can aim at all!" always makes me wheeze 😂😂😂
I'm really happy when he serves and it makes past the net.. 😂
I thought it was Suga saying that the 2m guy (cant spell his name) was being hidden in the corner so that he couldn't aim his serve at him, and Hinata was almost laughing because he cant aim anyway. But I might have missed that.
@@adeleedyrssen589 ohhh u are right friend!
A few episodes ago coach Donny asked if girls feel bothered by Tanaka and Nishinoya's behavior towards Kiyoko and we ansewered no. I just wanted to comment that the type of behavior we don't like is the one of those guys we see on this episode, being pushy even tho she obviously wasn't liking it.
So different from our boys who are always respectful ❤
Yeah and the thing with anime is that if those random dudes were the main characters it would be phrased as a joke or funny or a good thing or especially "well she secretly likes it". THATS what I don't like. And thats what Coach Donny was referring to. But the Haikyuu main characters don't really go that far so it's okay :).
Our boys are best boys!
Spoilers!!!
You know, kiyoko marries tan aka in the manga next
@@STG_Poketrainer That's spoiler for who doesn't read the manga! Please don't give spoiler without a warning! 😱
I would also like to add, that even though the guys behavior at the end is unacceptable, the show does it in a way that makes it clear that Kiyoko (not sure if I spelled her name right) is very uncomfortable and that Karasuno doesn't accept that kind-of behavior. Basically, the scene doesn't sexualize her, it just gives a different intro to a new team and characters (which for once Hinata didn't meet at the bathroom LOL).
Ennoshita appears.

Honestly since the first day I found coach Donny's reactions, I've been waiting for him to get to S3E4! 😊
I just finished s3. I was so tense halfway through I needed a class of wine.
You're right..
I think coach is going to really hate Miya Atsumu.
Funnily enough, Ushijima Wakatoshi (UshiWaka) is only 6’2, roughly the same height as Tsukkishima
Despire not having Hyakuzawa’s or Lev’s height, he’s considered the best in the prefecture, and top 3 in high school in Japan
I came here to say I felt like Coach was overestimating Ushiwaka's height! He's tall and broad but not mega tall like Lev (only half-Japanese) and Hyakuzawa (just a freakishly tall dude). I'm guessing 6'2 is still considered tall for male high school volleyball players, considering the average height for men in Japan is 5'6.
@@HollyComstock15 yea, in terms of Japanese men, especially high schoolers, UshiWaka is well above average
Volleyball players in general are quite tall (I think average is 6’5), which is probably why Coach Donny was overestimating his height

Takeda sensei has to call the timeout because techinically Ukai is just an assistant coach. I imagine that it is some paperwork thing
Probably because Ukai's not employed by the school, and it's a school event.
@@SupermewX300 You are right. Karasuno is not a private school so they don't usually hire a coach. Most of powerhouse schools spend money for sport clubs but Karasuno is not that type of school.

(Also I have been trying to say this in past episode comments. Fans please help him notice this.)
@@Phoenix-hp5rj I believed that Haruichi Furudate's gender was never revealed yet. We usually just call the author "Sensei". It is not appropriate to call "she" or "female writer". In all Japanese sources, their gender was never revealed. Maybe you misunderstood their gender from wrong English translations.
@@Phoenix-hp5rj Haikyuu's author gender has never been officially confirmed. Japanese doesn't do gendered pronouns the same way and so gender is often left ambiguous.
Viz uses he/him in the official translation
Idk if you realize later, but the "freak quick set" IS the "new quick", they just haven't used it throughout the previous match up until now
Exactly...they improved the freak quick by adding the spin...so Hinata can do normal quicks and now the spinning freak quick
@@hawkeyesblue9254 don't forget the fact that Hinata doesn't need to close his eyes anymore
It’s slightly slower since the ball floats in the air, but they note that its not even noticeable.
@@hawkeyesblue9254 Actually the spin is mainly for effect. If you actually spun the ball like that when setting it would easily get called, you arent allow to do that with 2 hands.
@@Qyshawn Depends. In this case, that spin would be legal. Some directions of spin might be called as a “double,” meaning a double touch. If the setter’s hands contact the ball at different times, that would be a double, and that has a distinctive spin direction (the axis is perpendicular to the ground). The way Kageyama is spinning the ball is by flicking his wrists, not having double contact. This creates an axis parallel to the ground, allowing the ball to stop short in the air as the spin of the ball wraps the air around it, creating the “floating” effect at its peak. If the ball had no spin it would follow a parabola, meaning it couldn’t stop short. Notice how, with Kageyama’s new quick sets with the water bottles, the horizontal distance the ball travels going up (the horizontal distance from the setter to the peak) is much greater than the horizontal distance it travels going down (the horizontal distance from the peak to the water bottle). The spin is so great the horizontal direction even reverses a few feet above the ground on the way down.
Man... I kind of want a historical anime about the Japanese woman’s teams trying to outsmart russian teams now
yeah, same
That Japanese team won 2 Olympic Games and 3 World Championship gold... They were amazing 😍
There is a very old one(from the 70s) but the techniques are ridiculous and unrealistic
Hey Coach, just to clarify: the shot at 13:45 was actually the new quick, with the dropping set. That's why Kageyama asked Daichi's permission to use it (and waited until he was "in the zone" before he felt confident enough to try it in a match). It's essentially replaced the original version as a part of their toolkit now, so from now on whenever you see the minus-tempo quick, Hinata's aiming with his eyes open.
Yes, they showed the new quick slowed down just to display Hinata's open eyes and decision-making in that split second. it's still almost just as fast as their old minus tempo quick
1:50 Coach Donny Sir. There is Something I want to tell you. The author of Haikyuu is not a He it's a She. It's written by a female writer. I think you need to know this.

@@Phoenix-hp5rj where did you get that information
This is true. They are actually trying the new stopping quick and not the old one.
The coach needs to see this ‼️
It’s not something unique to this episode, but I love how grounded Haikyuu is in a way that it doesn’t just brush aside certain advantages people have over others, especially (but not only) innate ones. The author really takes so many opportunities to show that strengths vary, and there’s no one or even two “right ways” to do anything, which is nicely summarized here with Hyakuzawa realizing that volleyball is also not as simple as he might’ve thought. (Gets even better by the end of the story, but we’ll get there!)
- about history talk - there's a whole Haikyuu documentary that focuses on the impact Haikyuu has had on volleyball in Japan, including the opinions from national team players and coaches, so feel free to check it out should you be interested! They also have some volleyball history there;
- a "plate" is just a metaphor for the shape of soft block.

Yachi taking notes while the kid is describing tempos... so cute.
Also, this is the first video I've ever seen explaining where minus tempo came from, that's so cool! I've watched Haikyuu so many times and I still learn so much from Coach!
About the plate moment: Doing a plate is how they call a soft block or deffensive block, leaning your hands a little backwards so the spike can bounce smooth to your team and then have a chance to make a play.
32:04-32:10 I don’t know if Coach noticed it, but during this scene Nishinoya was whistling the first opening song in season 1.
I didn’t even notice! Nice observation
Omg I love that I didn't notice at all thank you

that's crazy.. i thought he's just whistling whatever
What I like about this episode the most is the fact that Hyakuzawa is so gifted and yet is the exact opposite personality wise of hinata. And by the end he has his “moment” of now loving volleyball
It feels like Hyakuzawa wasn't motivated until he realized that just being tall wouldn't win games. He seems like a player who gets motivated by a challenge.
I think Hyakuzawa actually didn't get his "moment" until season 4 when him and Hinata meet again and Hinata helps him out.
@@SayJim I agree. This was more of a learning thing to him rather than the "moment"
I think the reason Takeda-sensei calls the timeouts is because he is the officially recognized as the head coach. Ukai Jr. is the assistant.

The great thing about Hinata is that he forces everyone around him to evolve. Even Karasuno's opponents.
He really is just like the sunshine that makes everything it touches grow.

Hey coach, I noticed you said you thought they werne't going to use the freak quick, but the freak quick they did in this episode is actually their NEW freak quick (the one with the backspin), so it's the same speed as the old one but Hinata can change the direction of the shot in mid air. It's an evolution of the technique.
Thumbs up so coach Donny can see this.
upupup
Because Takeda is an actual teacher at Karasuno, he is technically the head coach. Ukai is basically a volunteer and assistant coach, so Takeda has to call the timeouts and represents the volleyball team outside of practice.
10:39 well Hyakuzawa is a first year. He's 16 years old, same as Hinata.
I'll leave that fact there.
I like that the one of the observers is trying to build up hinata/karasuno and keeps looking at Old Coach Ukai for support and Old Coach Ukai just says it like it is, just makes me laugh.

That minus tempo trivia was awesome. As a non-volleyball player, I thought that some of the scenes cannot be done in real life but he gives example clips and I love hearing and seeing those. Coach is really a top tier Haikyuu reactor.
“The valiant little warrior who fights in the face of a two meter wall.” - Bokuto Koutaro
Kuroo and Akaashi thought he was exaggerating when he said that line on episode 9. Look at where we are now. 😌😌
"Belief" really is the overarching theme, especially in this part of the series. So much so that the opening theme for this arc is called "Believer" (one of my favourites 🥰🥰)
The openings in Haikyuu are always so appropriate for the arc's theme, I love it!
Hi coach to clarify the freak quick in this episode is new. It's the one from camp that has both SPEED and the ability for Hinata to AIM (his eyes are open!). The idea is that instead of floating it, the balls speeds to Hinata and then pauses via backspin so Hinata has time to aim. So it's Kageyama's precise speedy toss + anime backspin + Hinata's ability to see the blockers and even receivers.
Coach's history lesson about the minus tempo quick attack is exactly why I love his reaction videos. I'm always learning something new from a show I've watched a dozen times
The part where they mentioned the “plate”, they were referring to the soft block that kinda reflects that of a plate.

RAISE THIS UP
I think the bathroom moments stem more from other anime cliches. I can only think of shoujo bathroom cliches at the moment, but a lot of bullying and trash talking happen in the bathroom (Kimi in Todoke vividly comes to mind). In Philippine teleseryes/soap operas, the “villain”/contrabida and the good guy/protagonist (usually women) coincidentally meet in the bathroom.
I guess it's bc it's a good way to bring characters that try to avoid each other into close quarters since everyone needs to use the bathroom?
i love how hinata’s full name means sunlight and his sister’s name is natsu which means summer, so her full name is basically summer sun lol
@Ervin Kuroo Oh i was talking about his given name, Shoyo, not his family name but thanks for the info! I didn’t know the full translation was sunny place.
i love how the game changed the hyakuzawa. At first he didn´t seem much interested(which i think was very good potrayed by the voice actor) but as the game went on he got more into it(also portayed good by the voice that got more energetic and his look in his eyes). And in the end changed his mindset about volleyball.
Maybe he got his "hooked on volleyball moment" bokuto was talking about during this match or especially at the last point. Very nice scene
(side note for Coach: he is a first year)
I think that Hinata singing on his way to the bathroom in the previous episode was a way to show growth in Hinata as a character since when he first started he would nervously go to the bathroom with his stomach in knots before a match but now he was singing on his way.
I love the mental aspect of the game "Whether you think you can do it or think that you can't, you're right"
I really like how hyakuzawa’s opinions about volleyball develop. He went from saying its simple to complex.
Just to clarify, the flashy guy who was hitting on Shimizu got sidetracked and more interested in Hinata once he found out he was on the team that beat the 2 meter guy.
I don't think Hinata scared him off, but instead accidentally (without knowing) diverted his attention to something he's more interested in, which is volleyball.
It was just now after my third rewatch did I notice how big for hinata that last point was. He scored not because of a quick. Heck not even with kageyama. That subtle moment when he celebrates shows his drive and satisfaction of the improvement he attained so far.
Man I can't wait for Coach Donny to see Hyakuzawa's character arc in season 4. This show does such a great job ay developing so many minor characters and makes you actually care for them.

Wait did coach call Hyakuzawa “3” meter guy? I just cant stop imagine 3meter guy playing volleyball lol.
Haha it's cause coach is from the USA and they don't use meters xD
I think the first time he accidentally mixed "2 meter guy" with "3 meter line" and then it just stuck lol
I laughed so much with that XD

Takeda is the one who calls the time-outs because he is technically the team's coach. Ukai isn't employed by the school or anything, he's volunteering his time. So Ukai is officially the assistant coach, but because Takeda is not experienced with the sport, he and the players all defer to Ukai as the coach while Takeda fills the advisory role. When they're in official matches though, he's still the one who technically has the authority.
The quick they’re using is actually the new quick they created/practiced at the away camp in Tokyo. But they do still have the OG quick in their back pocket
Coach, Here's a breakdown of Hinata and Kageyama's attacks:
First, we have the initial freak quick, the one they developed all the way in the practice match against Tsukki, Yamaguchi and Daichi, in episode 3(?).
This quick was special because Kageyama set the ball at a super fast pace, perfectly matching the jump, height, and the swing of Hinata's arm, making it so the ball is exactly in the space of Hinata's hand.
This ball travels FAST. It's main power is the ABSURD transition time from SETTER to HITTER, not necessarily Hinata's speed. Hinata is fast, but as you know, fast tempo attackers are not uncommon, and Hinata's speed is not the highlight of this particular attack, it is simply utilized to the max by Kageyama's insane setting skills.
The problem they had with this quick in season 1 was that it was so quick that Hinata was unable to change the direction of the hit, thus relying entirely on Kageyama's sets.
Second, we have the NORMAL quick. This quick was developed in the first practice match with Nekoma, when Hinata was matched up with Inuoka, the spiky haired middle blocker. Hinata's struggle with getting blocked by Inuoka after he got used to his movements caused him to want to try hitting the ball in a different direction.
Unfortunately, he missed the ball since he wasn't jumping properly(note to previous quick), which caused Coach Ukai to get Kageyama to set Hinata a NORMAL quick set, one that is a bit more floaty, (i.e. FIRST TEMPO) so that Hinata has the chance to adjust midair.
This quick set is actually used in a lot more scenes than is obviously shown. For example, ALL of the quick sets done in the first set of this KARASUNO v. KAKUGAWA, before Kageyama decides to try the new quick set, were NORMAL quick sets. All of these sets still made use of Hinata's speed.
Finally, we have the NEW FREAK QUICK. This one is essentially a combination between the first two options. It combines the absurd travel time of the first set and the floatiness of the second set. As you've said before, this set is rather unrealistic. It's most likely physically impossible to create the level of spin to make the speed of a volleyball go from 100 - 0 in that split second before the spiker hits the ball, but that's how it works in this anime.
Because this is how it works, the freak quick is still capable of completely destroying read blockers, while still allowing Hinata to *defeat commit blockers* by directing his hits when needed.
Hope this clears up some of the misunderstandings you've had since the show began, and hope this is helpful!
This took me quite a while to type out, so please upvote to make sure Coach sees this!
15:07 "He's probably the tallest player in the prelims at 201 cm, but the one who will be toying him the most might be only 162 cm tall."
- Grampa Ukai
i don't know but ever since the first time i watched HQ, this line always gets me 🔥⬆️ every time.
This episode shows just how fast their freak quick really is. We knew it was crazy fast, but it's still slowed down for us to keep up with the animation. That scene where Hinata hits it in the next frame was insane lol.
The way I just searched your name cuz I was like “did it get posted yet”?? And this came up!!! We are so close to the Johzenji match that I know coach’ll enjoy !

Coach will probably hate the Party Boys, but it's actually my fav team 😅
Love Johzenji! Their fun spirit is just too contagious!
@@oscarkorff5487 their play style is something I think Coach will enjoy commenting on! I think he’ll also appreciate how they also evolve throughout the game as a team (mindset wise).
And me too lmfaooo, as a team they are definitely one of the most fun to watch 😭😭
anyone else here that likes Johzenji? (the next team they're playing), I'm curious how Coach Donny will respond to their style of play because I personally really like it
That was the new quick at about 15:00. Thats why they emphasized why Kageyama was "feeling good today" so that they could try it. The result of them practicing the new set was that it was similar in speed to the old quick, but let Hinata choose his hits. At this point, Hinata will never close his eyes while hitting for the rest of the series.
Coach, as I mentioned it on one of the previous episodes - "The reason why Takeda-san called a time-out is that, officially, he is the one being the head coach, as he was there for Karasuno before Ukai agreed to coach, making Ukai second coach (even tho he does the main part of coaching). Via rules, only the head coach can call a time-out, so most of the time, when Ukai feels like their team need one, he nods to Takeda-sensei to ask for a time-out."
Ah yes, my very tol son finally made his appearance.
Yo coach. That WAS the new quick. It looks exactly the same as the old except Hinata doesn't close his eyes. I'm sure it's probably a little slower but people on the show cant seem to tell the difference in speed.
I’m really surprised that the minus tempo is an actual technique
4:05 I don't know if you've noticed this key frame, Coach, but this is used A LOT in many pre-game moments in Haikyuu. Sometimes, they'll show who's gonna be the defining players of the match in very subtle ways. In this instance, they show the defensive backbone of Karasuno, which is their libero and their defensive specialist. They happen to be the ones figuring out how to deal with Hyakuzawa in this game and successfully predict his utter lack of experience while also formulating the best defensive strategy in dealing with him.
EDIT: Hyakuzawa is a middle blocker.
10:26 Takeda-sensei calls the time-out because he's technically the official coach by name. Only permanent school employees can be penned in as the official coach and I'm not 100% sure about this but Coach Ukai is either just volunteering (not receiving salary for his work) or, in paper, just a "consultant" to the school. Karasuno isn't really a big budget school and not really sports-oriented that they either don't have a budget for it now or they probably slashed the sports club budget after the fall of their powerhouse status in volleyball.
Super excited for some of the upcoming matches. I wonder what coach will think of the style of Johzenji.
They're quick to adapt and aren't afraid of trying new things so he might like that about them but I don't think he would like the players themselves, especially Terushima 🤷♀️
I really like when coach refers to another team when given a explanation but since I'm brazilian it's a trill when I hear you say: oh the brazilian attack, that made my day.
The spin of the ball is actually animated in the wrong way is my favorite quote so far
I think that when Hyakuzawa called volleyball simple, I don't think he meant it as easy. Like for example, he did say that receiving was hard but simple as in it is not complex. Since he is still new to the game, he doesn't know much. Even though he does realize it is a hard sport, Hyakuzawa thought that volleyball was all about gettting the ball to hit the ground and that's it. After that, Karasuno showed how much complexity comes with volleyball. From the synchronized attack, the different tempos, block outs (or wipe out), receiving, different serving (top spin or floaters), Karasuno showed him that the game has a lot more complexity than he thought. I don't think he meant as in the difficulty of the sport when he meant "simple".
Yeah, He clearly was cocky here ... Thus I don’t really get Coach’s reaction on that one ... Especially when He compared him to the previous team who... was not cocky actually... The Captain thought Hinata was talking big by saying He would win everything, but it’s not like He himself felt superior or anything the way Hyakuzawa did... The contrary actually : he thought winning was impossible because of Shiratorizawa and felt defeated ...
I’m sure someone else has explained it already, but “the new freak quick” is just as fast as the old one, only difference being that the ball pauses mid air.
I’m sure it Coach got it confused with the old quick because a set that stops like it does in the show is actually impossible, so he reasonably assumed that it was slower.
I'm down w covid and this made my night better
Take care
Get well soon!
Get well soon💜
It's terrifying to think that Hyakuzawa is a 1st year, so he's only 15-16 years old at this point (someone probably has his exact age, help me out here pls)
Just for clarification, the quick that they used this episode isn’t slower it’s the exact same speed as the old freak quick, but now it has a different toss so Hinata can change direction. They are done using the old freak quick, and have fully started using the new one.
Did ya'll notice coach going like 'Holy crap' for a second in his silent expression at 13:47? Pretty sure most of us felt that way the first time we saw that scene.
Coach in case you haven't noticed, the "plate" is actually the deflection or soft block, while the tool/hitting off the blocker's hand/wipe/block out is called the "umbrella"
wait my mom just walked in on me watching this at 3:15 AM and she's livid, especially after finding out that i've done the same thing last week (and is planning to do so every sunday) 😭
Wakatoshi Ushijima- Ushiwaka is
189.5 cm (6' 2.6") and 84.8 kg (187 lbs) at 18
the only change for me with the later uploads is now I watch Coach Donny Haikyuu while eating linner instead of breakfast :^)
literally my favorite content on YT rn, I had no idea react content could ACTUALLY be insightful
Actually Ushiwaka is a bit shorter than Lev. He is 6'2.6" (189.5 cm) but the funny thing is that he is still growing, as an adult he is 6'3.9" (192.7 mm).
I haven't watched it yet but i've been having a hard time and for the last few hours i was feeling terrible but when i went online and saw your video and i was like "YES, THIS IS WHAT I NEEDED" and i feel better instantly. Thank you Coach Donny!
Hey Coach, a clarification
The "freak quick" they did against the tall guy the first time was actually the new quick
The new quick is just as fast, if not faster, than the original quick, with the added benefit of Hinata placing the shot.
So every "freak quick" we see S2 second half onwards is the new quick itself
I remember watching my friend's volleyball game in high school and they ran a similar play where 3 people starting running up at the same time and he crushed it in the back row. Now I know it's called a backrow bic, thanks coach!
I love that during the explanation for the minus tempo attack we see Yachi taking notes. She's learning so much about volleyball from watching the matches and listening to the people around her, and also taking her role as assistant manager very seriously by taking time to note down what she learns. It's such a small thing to include (especially considering that she's not the focus of the show or even the episode) but it shows how far she's come from considering herself as Townsperson B. That fact that Haikyuu includes these small moments for so many characters is one of the reasons I enjoy the show so much, and there's so much to spot in these episodes that you can rewatch them a bunch of times and still discover something new.
Interesting bit of trivia. Kakugawa(the team Karasuno plays in this episode) is another school whose 3rd years retired after interhigh. All of the players on this team are 2nd years except for Hyakuzawa.
Hinata always shines so i would forget about Tsukishima. When i would forget about him Hinata is at disadvantage and Tsukishima will appear and it will make me remember him
that plate is used as a symbol for soft block... like their hands are placed at a small inclination to give ground for ball to bounce upward rather than shutting the ball down... their hands are placed like a plate for ball to bounce
Just to add on to your thing about the freak quick attack, the new one that allows Hinata to make decisions is just as fast as the old freak quick. It's just that the toss is different so that Hinata can make decisions.
By "plate" they simply mean blocking at a more tilted and upward angle. Right before it was mentioned that a "wall" may not work, and traditional blocks have been referenced as "wall" since the beginning of season 1.
NOTIFICATION GANG!
always love coach donny reactions- i am even starting to elevate who i am before i leave for college
The original quick was the "god-like" quick which they used in s1 and the new one is the "freak" quick which allows Hinata to aim by himself in mid-air with his eyes open... So from now on, Hinata will be opening his eyes when he spikes
It isn’t really explained but their positions are mentioned later on so:
Re: Takeda and Ukai, and why Takeda called the Time-Out - its because in official matches, Takeda is the Team Advisor/Head Coach.
He’s the Head Coach, because he’s employed by Karasuno High School. Meanwhile, Ukai is the Assistant Coach - since he’s allowed to be on the court, he’s probably officially contracted by the school but not employed, so he can only be in the position of “Assistant.”
Thats why in practice games, Ukai calls the shots, but in official matches, Ukai lets Takeda know when to call Time-Outs.
Also Ushijima is around 6’2 or so!
Coach don't forget to react to 2nd ova after completion of season 2
Hinata receives better with his face than he does with his own arms
Lol! Yes to this comment
I think the reason why Karasuno is a team where everyone is so motivated to improve and get better is because they all have something to prove. They had quite a unique situation in that they were considered a former powerhouse team that had become weak, this likely motivated the second and third years who were used to losing to try to regain Karasuno's former glory, and for the first years they all had their own goals, whether that be yamaguchi and not wanting to rely on others and tsukki so much and being able to be on the same level as them, or Hinata and not letting his height hold him back and even Kageyama and surpassing Oikawa. The only person who isn't as motivated as everyone else currently is Tsukki and that could be because he hasn't found that reason or moment yet. It might also be an interesting way of the author saying that even though Karasuno was considered weak, if you give it your all to improving and getting better you'll never know where you'll end up.
Anyone else notice the momofuka dunks on coach donnys shelf? Mad respect! Love your videos!
Been waiting for your reaction video all week! Love the Bruce Lee poster!!!
I can't wait to see you react to season 3 the detail will blow your mind
The anime never covers it, while the manga does, but when the author created a Haikyuu "all-stars" (minus the popularity poll) team Hyakuzawa was on the all-stars team despite being an inexperienced first-year, indicating his diamond-in the-rough status. Loved that coach could read into his drive from a character most people ended up dismissing on their first watch. This episode was Hyakuzawa getting bitten by the volleyball bug and his eventual character arc is one of the most satisfying things in the series. Can't wait to eventually hear more from coach about him.
Coach, the new quick is the new freak quick, the one where the ball stops midair. They won’t use the old freak quick again, it’s the one where it stops, and it’s the one that was made to give Hinata more time to change direction. So he can control it
In case nobody said so, Ushijima, aka Ushiwaka, is 189.5 cm tall, which in inches is 6' 2.6".
