Coach! When Ushijima says "do your best" to Goshiki (the 1st year future ace) he actually means it!!! Remember throughout this season that Ushijima has a very honest personality, everything he says, he means it wholeheartedly, so no need to interpret his words in any other way XD
Yea what most forget is that he is so monotone and straight up about everything that no matter what he says even when it is meant to be helpful it sounds a bit condescending and sarcastic so it’s funny how even his team members have to deal with that
In other words, ushijima would be a bad poker player in that he does not bluff. But he also has little emotional variance, so he's hard to read.

About Ushiwaka and Benkei:
They commonly call him “Ushiwaka" because of the "Ushi" in Ushijima and "Waka" in Wakatoshi. But his nickname "Ushiwaka" is also the child name of the Japanese Genji Warrior, Minamoto Yoshitsune, who was also known to have extreme jumping abilities. He is a pretty famous Japanese samurai.
Benkei is actually just the other guys nickname and also based of the right hand man of the famous Ushiwaka.
So they are not just randomly chosen but represent raw force and unstoppable power (Ushiwaka) and loyalty and reliability (Benkei)
I was looking for this comment. Is not exactly an important piece of information but Is one of this things that you need to know for things to make sence. Great explanation too!

Leon and Benkei also have the same hair if you look at traditional Japanese art LOL it's why Hinata saw his face and hair and is like omg it's benkei!

Asahi wasn't counting when he wrote on his hand, in japan they have this "pick me up" or tradition when you are nervous to write the kanji for "people" (人) in your hand three times and swallow it :)

He’s looking at it from the perspective of an animator. It takes extra effort to consistently add extra features like that and not many shows do.
Also for him he want the episode where it happened about 10 weeks ago
To be fair it was many episodes going by, so it felt like days(weeks in Coach's case since he does weekly reactions) when in the anime timeline it's actually hours or a day.

that's a unique take on Haikyuu reactions, really nice
Our Coach is multi talented!
He's also an art teacher.
@@khinzaw77 volleyball is an art.
We come here because we want his insights as a coach and get a bonus for his animation insights.
come on, it's the first episode of Season 3 where everyone keep saying about it's movie-level of animation, let him appreciate it in his own way... although, what I'm looking forward at this episode's reaction was his take about LEFT-handed spikers, is it really different? he missed it.
When Nishinoya said “well hello, left” at the end, it’s because Ushijima is a left handed hitter. So not only was it a powerful serve, he just wasn’t used to receiving a left handed hit.
I was waiting for him to comment on that since he talked about left handed players before (I think he even talked about it in his olympics commentary videos). Guess we'll have to wait for next week's reaction
from what I've experienced as someone who plays volleyball, there's not much if any difference between a left handed and a right handed player's attacks - this is mostly exaggerated in the anime. The only time there's a difference is when a player does a jump serve - a right handed player usually serves from the right side of the court and the ball tends to curve to their left (opponent's right) due to the spin your right arm creates on the ball, but a left handed player (such as myself) usually serves from the left side of the court and the ball tends to curve to their right (opponent's left). Since left handed players are less common and good jump servers even less so, a good left-handed jump serve can literally wreak havoc on a team who hasn't had enough experience with it (this is part of the reason Yuji Nishida's serve is so good, it's fast and has a trajectory which people aren't used to, so most of his aces are from the ball flying to the left of the receiver due to the curve in the flight of the ball). Thanks for coming to my TED talk haha, I hope this was useful
@@9o6o75 I'm ambidextrous, but I'm a setter so the only advantage I noticed is that I can dump and dig more easily. But whenever I have to spike, I do it with my left hand and people usually don't know where to jump to block me when it's a single block. I do think they exaggerate a little bit for the anime, but I don't think it's unrealistic to say Ushijima is harder to deal with because he's a lefty, even if it is a little bit, it is a contributor factor (besides the raw strength/power of his spikes that is)
@@9o6o75 agreed, the effectiveness of lefties Is definitely exaggerated in the anime as the spin direction doesn't really matter when considering how close you are to the actual spike.
As a lefty myself ik that there are other advantages, for one most blockers are conditioned to block a player's right side so early in the game you're gonna be annoying to adjust too and you also have the benefit being at maximum effectiveness on the right side since your body is open to the court
@@thestain8004 Yeah this is what I imagined the real life difference would be in real volleyball. It wouldn’t be a crazy big advantage but early on it will definitely throw someone off. In context of the show, I think just having to deal with a powerful spike and on top of that nishinoya has to get used to the left handed hit is what makes it difficult.
Something an art teacher told me is that a camera only has one eye while we have two, so that's why it's better to draw from real life and not photos :D
Oooh that is a great point
Some cameras have more tho
But it's also good to draw from good drawings! You can see the decisions made by the artist and the way they choose to simplify shapes to impart information with the least effort possible. Looking and learning from good art leads to good art!

Hey coach it’s not necessarily a new animation team that’s causing the uptick in quality. Season 3 is only 10 episodes and they had a long time to work on it. So you take haikyuus already stellar track record for animation and you give them all the time to work on arch shorter season and you get this
THIS!
up
Louder for everyone at the back 👏👏👏
Really?! this whole time i thought it was new animation team. Thanks for the info
Season 3 also marked when they started to animate more closely to the manga's art style. So the lines on characters' faces and the proportions started to match closer to Furudate-sensei's original art, while S1 and S2 were deviated more to fit the scene. S4 leaned a bit too hard in matching Furudate-sensei's art, in that they EXACTLY MATCHED some panels that don't look as good on screen (spoilers ahead), in particular Daichi's expression when he makes the save during the last rally of the Inarizaki match works in panel form, but just looks dumb in motion.
I think you missed this coach, so just highlighting it! Nishinoya said "Why hello, Left." at the end because Ushiwaka is a left-handed player. That's also why Noya missed the dig -- he wasn't expecting the spin.
Don't they research their opponents at all?
@@thesazbak5342 there's a difference between knowing and actually experiencing it and in Ushijima's case, he hits pretty hard. Nishinoya probably hadn't gotten a proper chance to go against leftys
@@thesazbak5342 pretty sure he knew he was left handed, just wasn't used to
Ushiwaka specifically
@@thesazbak5342 they can research all they want but it doesn't change the fact that Ushijima is left handed and thus the ball spins in a different way. Only practice can prepare you for that and I guess Karasuno and other teams they played agsinst don't have any left handed players
@@thesazbak5342 they do but watching video analysis of a left handed spike is completely different from actually experiencing it. I'm pretty sure Noya was expecting it. But it's already so hard to receive because of how powerful it is and then you add an element of weird spin to it.
this season’s intro always gives me chills especially with the flashes of the crows vs the eagle and all the symbolism that comes with it!!
I see you're a man of culture as well. And this isn't even the moonlight version
@@RuyLopezTheSicilian Bruh the Moonlight version should be played for Haikyuu's finale or something
That mountain which symbolises that Shiratorizawa is like a huge mountain you have to climb with the sick transition into the eagle is just so good.
The eagle which represents Ushijima as one strong bird against the crows which are weaker but come in numbers.
And the mountain does not only stand for Shiratorizawa being a mountain you have to climb.
But also for Shiratorizawa being an elite school on a mountain.
Yup, it’s my favorite intro
Hey coach remember when you made a dream team after season 1
You had:
Oikawa as setter
Kageyama as right side hitter
Kindaichi (onion head) and Aone as middles
Daichi and Asahi as outside hitters
and Nishinoya as Libero
(And your captain was Daichi)
Would your team change now that you’ve watched season 2?
And other commenters, please comment your dream team in the replies below, but only include characters we’ve met to avoid spoilers 🧡🖤
My dream team:
Setter: Oikawa
Right Side Hitters: UshiWaka
Middles: Kuroo, Aone
Outside Hitters: Bokuto, Iwaizumi
Libero: Nishinoya
Setter: oikawa
Outside hitters: Iwaizumii and Nakashima
Opposite hitter: mad dog
Middle blocker: Tsukishima Aone
Libero: Nishinoya
Pinch servers Yamaguchi and semi
I think the core Oikawa-iwa-mad dog worked pretty well. IWA can cover oikawa lacks and oikawa can use mad dog at best.
Nakashima not only Is One of the best spikers in the prefecture but also can bring some experience to the table.
I want some stable blockers that can improve the receive of our team(both IWA and Takeru are Amazing receivers). So the choise for Aone and tsukki was Easy.
As libero Noya Just because Is by far the best libero in the prefecture.
Yamaguchi as pinch server because him and Tsukki can both boost themselves morale.
Semi because having a second setter can leave oikawa free to Spike.
I think this team could win the Nationals. Well balanced, not too overpowered(Ushijima must be under some kind of PEDS, he can't be a 18 years old).
@@samkelly4132 definitely the best line up in season 2!
My dream team so far
counting only season 2n Im adding all characters, not only from the Sendai region.
Setter - Oikawa (obvious choice here, probably the best setter we've seen so far)
Middle Blocker - Aone from Date Tech (extremely strong, seems to be easy to coach)
Middle Blocker - Kuroo from Nekoma (probably the smartest blocker together with Tsukki)
Wing Spiker - Daichi (balanced player and my choice as Captain)
Wing Spiker - Bokuto from Fukurodani (I admit it might be a problem dealing with his mood swings but I think Kuroo and Oikawa are cunning enough to help him out)
Libero - Yaku from Nekoma (nishinoya himself recognized he's extremely good)
I'd love to see coach's new team if he had one
For how far they've developed to end of season 2, with rotation starting back right and going clockwise:
Setter: Oikawa
Middle and Libero: Aone and Yaku
Left Back: Bokuto
Left Front: Iwaizumi
Middle: Kuroo
Opposite: Daichi
I like the idea of Kuroo being crafty with Oikawa once they rotate to the front. Tried to get a decent passer in the backline for most of the game by staggering Kuroo, Yaku, and Daichi, but the rotation where back line is Bokuto and Iwaizumi might be messy. Iwaizumi is fine with receives though, so it shouldn't be too big of an issue. I really wanted Ushijima at opposite, but there's so few characters that are known for great passing (yet) that Daichi seems kind of irreplaceable. Especially as the captain.
The team's got plenty of passers to let Oikawa do the hard work. Basically the strategy behind Nekoma, but with someone who at this point is a far superior "brain."
Do you already know that "Ushiwaka" is a nickname derived from the name of an ancient samurai?
"Benkei" is also a name of a samurai, a great warrior who was considered a close associate of Ushiwaka.
Because Benkei has the image of a rugged and large man, Hinata gave Leon that nickname.
Had no idea, thank you
This is the one line in the show I never got. Thanks for clearing that up.
I always was curious why he called him that. Thanks!
Benkei was like Yoshitsune's second hand
Also Benkei has Leon's hair and eyebrows

So excited for this season! Fun fact, the phrase hikari are translates to "Let There Be Light". You can see throughout the opening, a lot of things are kept under the dark, including Shiratorizawa. However when Karasuno appears, a bright light shines on them later revealing both teams at the very end. This opening definitely makes it one of my top favorites!
It's such a great opening.
I love how they show the whole team doing their thing and then Ushijima destroys them like nothing. Or the whole climbing a mountain just to find a taller one ahead.
It's so well though out.

Crazy how fast the time flies.. we are already starting S3? Feels like Coach just starting to react to S1Ep1 not too long ago... and when i check back it's almost a year since then like, wow. You might not feel it, Coach but thanks for helping to make the year bearable for some of us with your videos.
YES! I agree with this. Coach's reaction videos to Haikyuu made the last year so bearable and fun. Never knew we'd be here this fast! Season 3, let's go!!
the thickness of the lines and the characters are correlated with the manga where the characters are a lot thinner in the beginning and look more muscular and defined as the manga goes on
One thing I really love about the opening is when they all come and meet by the net, on one side you have ONE eagle against bunch of CROWS and that is the beauty of Karasuno’s playing style. They always focus on all the players making the team successful. Whereas for Shirotorizawa, their style is adding to Ushijima’s strength and make him the star as Coach Ukai said.
Its amazing how Hinata just knew Shiratorizawa was there before they even stepped into the gym. I once had a moment like this playing basketball. I was warming up and just got this knot in my stomach all of a sudden. I turned around and about 3 seconds after I did, the best player from the other team walked in to the gym.
about the animations, usually they spend more money on the first episodes of each season to make a good impression! And then they save the rest of the budget for important moments. It's also commum for them to adjust the character design every season! The same artist made the design for the 3 first seasons, I think the changes you noticed are just the proof of their improviment over the years animating Haikyuu. The animators actually change a lot during the production, and sometimes they hire freelancers to make specific important scenes! The character design will change a lot for S4, that's when the old designer left the project and other animator from the team got his place, and tried to make it look closer to the style of the manga.
Love your reactions!
Coach, just a slight tip: the captain of the team has the number of their jersey underscored
Don’t the team captains also always have number 1? (in haikyuu not IRL) I can’t think of any captains that aren’t number 1. Daichi, Ushijima, Oikawa, Shinsuke, etc
@@DEFIB7 bokuto!! He's #4
@@DEFIB7 traditionally, when there was no libero and the points was only to 15, and you can only score on your serve, the numbers indicated specialty. 1, powerful server. 2, setter. 3, middle. 4, wing spiker.
But the number tradition is down to school culture really. The clearest example is Dateko. 1 goes to the star blocker, and 2 is usually reserved for captain. In Fukurodani, although Bokuto is captain, he still wears the traditional "ace" jersey #4, indicating his team and personal pride in being their powerful wing spiker, more than their captain and leader
yeah that’s the convention across the world, he probably missed it because the frame was too close to be able to tell from the scene right away

I love Hinata noticing them before they enter. He's just a tiny animal.
On the topic of japanese animation. An episode is usually made with 6-10 keyframers that make the line art and light indications. The general coordination and big sequences are handled by the episode director. Usually keyframers do a very mechanic work and are meant to adapt to whatever they're doing, they're not expected to show their style. Big changes come from the episode director, or a guest animator specialized on something. Episodes are done 3-4 at the same time depending on the size of the team.
Color is handled by the digipaint team, they work with the director so keyframe indicates can be changed in that stage. Most CG elements (balls, settings, trophies) are outsourced to CG studios that also work on videogames. Some studios have their own team, some use assets out of the box (even when they don't mesh at all, for example the crowds in Baby Steps). Anime is a big group effort.
If you want to watch something about animation once Haikyuu is over (or while waiting for S4 blurays that will look better) you could watch Shirobako. It's about cute girls being crushed by the industry.
Aaaaa here it comes! I can't wait for your comments on Tendou (red hair from shiratorizawa) in future episodes!! I personally like his character- especially his playstyle.

WHOA, I was thinking you would take a few weeks off in between seasons. What an unexpected treat! Much love, Coach Donny
Lol I love how Kuro is carrying Kenma I'm the ending
32:21 Asahi was writing 'Person' on his palm. They didn't show it, but you're supposed to pretend to 'swallow' it after writing it on your palm to calm your nerves. Visualize charades for eating a handful of popcorn lol.
I’m impressed with coach not being able to watch the whole season in one continuous streak. It’s such an action oriented season so it was impossible for me to wait another episode without having to have a freaking seizure while anticipating the next episode.
Right?! Well props to him for not.. some episodes I get so pumped that I actually go and watch the next episode. 😀
Your old illustrations were so cool, thanks for putting those up for us to see!
It finally happened! I was honestly excepting a small break like he did at the end of season 1, but I'm glad he kept rolling into season 3. This is where the true fun begins...and it all starts with that first spike.
Coach talking about how the animation is even better in season 3. I can not wait for him to see the amazing jump of animation in season 4 as well.
This video felt more like an art lesson than a reaction video, and I didn't mind one bit. This season has some absolutely amazing animations and visuals, so I'd bet we'll get even more like this.
It pretty much highlights tho how different American and Japanese productions with how he was explaining stuff in contrast to what actually happens in Japan.
I love that coach still has his that little kid just exited for volleyball when he said OMG THE LIGHTNING THATS SO AWESOME!!!! I had the same reaction and it’s funny to just see that so pumped for season 3 my personal favourite season can’t wait.
If we had to compare both teams to real teams i’d say Shiratorizawa is similar to Russia and Karasuno similar to Japan(obviously)
When Suga pushing Asahi (let's give some time to talk) from Daichi when Michimiya came and was talking with him. That moment is so similar from life
Just for reference for Ushijima he's 189.5 cm and his peak jump reaches 345cm which is much higher then most blockers on Karasuno
I felt like you took the comment to Ushijimi at face value, when Yamagata (the brown haired spiky guy) said Ushijimi says things so honestly he sounds like a jerk, he was just saying that his bluntness comes off rude. Ushijimi really was just telling the 1st year (Goshiki) good luck
This will be interesting. Coach watching a Character who's practically the complete opposite of him in terms of play style
And By the way Eita is Shiratorizawa's Backup Setter. Between the Starting setter and the Backup Setter, The Backup Eita is actually the better setter in terms of raw talent. But The Starting line one has the better mentality for Shiratorizawa
*edit* Please read this comment the whole way through before calling it a spoiler. It's getting pretty annoying now
Only Full power Spike, no intentional block out
The context of Semi being better is spoiler information
Please change your comment regarding Semi and Eita. That's a spoiler.
Tbh I think this should be deleted. That's a lot of not-yet-set-up information that also becomes very relevant later.
you are confusing coach by calling him Eita and Semi while both are the same person.
Of course he’d know that it’s a little different art style.
I mean he is an art teacher
kind of a spoiler for next season, but I wonder what he'll think of the new character designs.
@@vailingbow1068 Ew just ew I hate season 4.
@@vailingbow1068 don’t even say next season because there isn’t one.
@@alpha12gtr34 that is an extremely unfair comment and a blatant attempt to undermine season 4. Episodes 22-23-24 are the best in the entirety of the show, not from animation perspective but everything else is top fucking notch.
"As soon as you make a good play, you also have to move on right away."
yes. gotta remember this and apply in my life.
The grind from nishinoya while saying "Hello there, Left" was lit to accept the challenge from the powerful left handed person !!
Coach, can you believe it's already season 3? It feels surreal that you've now caught up with around half of the series. It feels like you only recently started doing the reactions
The finals match between Shiratorizawa and Karasuno is the only match for that day so it should be all good to have the best of five match :>
Cheers Coach! That ending actually consists of all the major teams that karasuno played against, in chronological order, from left to right.
Hey coach, you should REALLY check the lyrics from hikari are ( the opening), it's beautiful and fits perfectly with the show
Congrats Coach, you finally get to see the best intro AND outro!! Don’t let any other fan tell you otherwise 🤣
IDK, "Fly" is pretty hard to beat...
I love how the new opening shows each Karasuno character just like how Hinata saw the Little Giant! It really shows just how good each player is at this point.
I'd never considered that!
Coach season 3 has my favorite opening out of the entire series and I love the song by Burnout Syndromes, "Hikariare." I can't wait for you to see the rest of the season. This game is such a great battle.
BURNOUT SYNDROMES has made these openings so greattt 🔥🔥
They went all out with the animation for this season, it looks great! One of my favorite details in the show is the way Ukai greets each player differently as they come out on the court according to their personalities, like making Hinata jump for his high five, it’s sweet.
By the way just in case u missed it coach, nishinoya at the end said “well, hello left” because ushiwaka is the first left handed spiker they’ve met thru the whole competition and he isn’t used to receiving left handed spikes
No spoilers but: we all know who the season 3 favorite is going to be. I'll be shocked if he doesn't choose this person.
Actually no idea who you mean here, so many lovable boys in S3.
Dw Coach, the quality in Season 3 remains consistent throughout.
I remember in the official Haikyuu novel, Yachi said that Hinata and Kageyama are not friends. Not the type they would hang out and have fun together. But they are just like knife and fork, they have the same goal and they know that they are both running towards the same thing. It's just incredible companionship, knowing that without saying, someone is with you on the journey.
Can't wait for coach to react to all the great moments in season 3!! And there's a number of them, let's gooo!!!
I really love getting to hear coach Donny’s thoughts on the animation. There aren’t many reactors who are able to comment on it and know what they’re talking about
Oh coach. You will never be ready for Inarizaki's grand entrance. 🤭
"Is the opening going to change with each episode?"
Yes... but actually no. This season is intense :D
This is why I love this match the most. Tbh, I dunno which I like more, the Shiratorizawa vs Karasuno, the Inarizaki vs Karasuno or the Kamomedai vs Karasuno. But the anime did such a good job with this match that it's an instant great/classic for me. I mean, it's a whole fucking season for 1 match.
@@vailingbow1068 I agree.. this season in the anime is my favorite to rewatch haha. [SPOILERS AHEAD]

I really like the Inarizaki vs Karasuno in the manga, possibly my favorite match in the Nationals arc. 2nd will be the one against Kamomedai.
@@chelatine yeah. They did GREAT with Shiratorizawa vs Karasuno. They needed work with the Inarizaki match in the anime. Kamomedai was good. This is heavy spoilers for those reading and haven't read the manga. I would've liked to see who won if Hinata didn't have to leave.
@@vailingbow1068 I should probably edit my comment and place spoiler warnings haha
@@vailingbow1068 [Spoiler edit]
Nekoma be like: Am I a joke to you? XD
Actualy, I believe it's the same animation studio "Production I.G" for all seasons. Except for an outsourced episode in a later season.
Finally!!!! About damn time... Ever since I started watching coach's Haikyu! reaction, I've been waiting patiently until he reaches the glorious hype season 3...
Coach, both managers helped with the “scouting report” so that means Yachi helped too :)
Interesting fact about season 3 is that it’s a battle between karasuno a team that uses fast sets and different tactics to win against shiratorzawa which is a team that manly sets it’s biggest and strongest hitter which reflects the real world. IRL the Japanese changed from that old mentality and gained there own style.
It's the battle of concepts
bruh spoilers
Coach Donny, please realize that the episodes aren't animated by using 2 or 3 animators each episode. They have a full team of animators working on different episodes at a time. Animation in the US is very different than the anime industry in Japan
Coach, I can never recover that you used Gundam Virtue of Gundam 00 as the camera man 😂😂😂 Hilarious 🤣
Very happy to know coach also has a love for gundam haha
WOOHOO STRAIGHT INTO SEASON 3!
Time for the tears, thrills, and best character arcs ever
Me not noticing any changes.
Coach donny: "The nose is a little shorter and the eyes are long."
How can he differentiate that?🧐
One note to Coach: The captain ALWAYS has a line under his number. Usually, the captain wears #1, but not always. Daichi, Oikawa, Ushiwaka, Kuroo are the captains wearing #1. The unusual captains are Moniwa (Summer Interhigh prelims) and Futakuchi (Spring High prelims), both wearing #2 at Date Tech, and Bokuto of Fukurodani wearing #4.
I'm here for the animation analysis as well as volleyball commentary and you really outdid yourself this week Coach! I'm so happy~
Can't believe how far we've come with Coach Donny! Already Season 3? Time flies so fast. Thanks for your hard work Coach! 💪🏼
Kudos to Coach Donny for remembering to pause more! Though I do hope he gets a bit better before episode 3.
What coach ukai meant with “shiratorizawa is addition and other teams are multiplication” is shiratorizawa can be good while just relying on individual strength, which makes sense considering they’re a rich private school with handpicked players that could be a star player on any other team. While other teams have to rely on game plans, strategies, and team chemistry(multiplying each other), shiratorizawa can just have each player do their part and still win(adding on each other). This is also why in the opening with the lighting bolt, it shows shiratorizawa as one big powerful hawk, symbolizing their individualism, vs karasuno which had a flock of crows representing their reliance on teamwork rather than talent.
it’ll be interesting for coach to see all the animation upgrades for this new season, especially with our left handed player ushiwaka.
If you want a true reference as to how powerful Ushijima is, no one in the Miyagi prefecture (this competition, the level before nationals) has ever blocked him throughout his high school career.
That's kinda dumb though ngl. It's like the writer can't come up with new type of relatively realistic playstyles anymore so he invents a completely unrealistic one.
@@thesazbak5342 can u explain how a stereotypical power style is unrealistic?
@Kafka Oikawa huge spoiler please delete bevor the Coach sees it
@Yerr Y'nam shayn The reason is that they think of Ushiwaka as someone who could easily play professional already. Since they are high schoolers and he is just on a completely different level (considered as probably the top of the country) it does make sense though.
I’ve played volleyball myself and sometimes you have those opponents that you just can’t completely shut out as long as it doesn’t us a fluke
Where was this said anyway? I still have no clue.
honestly this season uses the music the best out of all the seasons
Trivia for S3:
1) The opening song is about enduring through hard times and it was composed with the idea as if they're in the middle of a war. It perfectly depicts what the opening animation and the whole arc's subject is supposed to be about.
2) The animation team is more or less the same core members for S3. It looks different because they have very high budget for each episode here and they can afford to splurge for it to the point of hiring extra hands. S3 only lasts up to 10 episodes unlike the usual 12-15 for animes. Not to mention, the Shiratorizawa arc of Haikyuu is very important to the story so they had to increase the quality by a good margin.
3) Prefectural finals in Japan are always played in Bo5 and in Miyagi Prefecture (where Karasuno High is located), the finals is the only match for the day because it is a small division. It's also the reason why this is the only time the tournament used the center court. Somehow, in a weird twist, Inter-High's final match for this year between Shiratorizawa and Aoba Johsai was played as Bo3 which is a weird departure from the norm.
4) Shiratorizawa is an academy who takes their sports teams very seriously, hence the cheer squad. Their volleyball team is highly respected even before Ushijima and part of the reason is them having the highly renowned Coach Washijo who's actually known nationwide.
5) Tendo Satori, the guy who pretty much read what Hinata was thinking about Leon, has a very interesting fact about him. In Japan, a "satori" is a youkai/spirit that has the ability to read someone's mind. This reference will play very heavily on his characterization AND his volleyball playstyle.
