Just a heads up, in the next episode there will be a good amount of time where the twins won't have their hair dyed because it will be a flashback. During those scenes I would recommend looking at their eyes, as Atsumu has brown eyes and Osamu has grey ones. Kita is one of those characters that the author themselves actually didn't expect to become as important and impactful as he did. @@ElevateYourselfOfficial gotta understand that japanese manga is serialized weekly and most of the authors only has an outline of the story. they often create characters on a whim and let them develop as the story progresses since they dont know if they will still be serialized after a few weeks.
a popular example of this is Oda's One Piece, the best selling manga of all time that just surpassed 500 Million copies sold. He created 7 characters over night to spice up the story that became so interesting it ended up derailing his manga by atleast 10 years. still, those were some great characters.
manga publishers in japan has serialization meetings about 4 times a year to determine which series to cancel and which new ones to publish. its a harsh world. so authors always has to comeup with something interesting week by week to keep the readers interested.
16-19 pages a week is no joke lol

The fox reference ins because of the name of the schools. So Karasuno is the crow because Karasu (烏) means crow. Nekoma is the cat because Neko (猫) means cat. Fukuroudani is the owl because Fukurou (梟) means owl. And Inarizaki are foxes because Inari (稲荷) means fox (actually it's the name of a Japanese god, but it's said that foxes are Inari's messengers and so they are often referred to as Inari as well), so that's why Inarizaki is represented by foxes

I think the main reason it was a big deal for Shinsuke Kita getting his uniform was because it was the Captain's uniform. Up until his 3rd Year he isn't even part of the main team, more like a bench and didn't even get a single uniform up to that point. His grandma saying just do your best all the time someone's always watching. It actually started with Tsukki calling it a "freak set and spike" during the very first scrimmage against Aobajousai, and then Ukai also asked whether Hinata and Kageyama are "freaks" when he first saw them do the combo with Hinata's eyes still closed x)
Very vague but still !!!spoiler-ish!!! thoughts ahead, so beware: the Coach talking about developing a culture where any player (including bench players) feels like they can contribute to the team's success while pausing on an exchange between Kinoshita and Nishinoya feels so satisfying~~~

This episode is hands down my absolute favourite of this season! I admire Kita so much. With his 18 years, he‘s already such a wise and mature character. “The results are only the byproduct of the process.“ This is such a great life lesson which we should all keep in mind. I wish someone would‘ve told me this when I was a child or in my teenage years. Especially me who grew up in a strict Asian household where, especially in academics, only results mattered. I‘ve often been pressured in achieving the best results. It’s sad that I learned such an impactful wisdom from a 2d Anime character instead from real life people. Kita is truly an awesome and inspiring character and his philosophy was really mind changing! He inspired me to do even the smallest tasks with integrity because in the end, they matter.

I love Rintarou's comment at the end: "a block that's not scary isn't actually a block", indicating that he finds stuff blocks the only type of block worth caring about. He finds Kageyama's stuff block more challenging than Tsukki's soft blocks, which can say a lot about Rintarou's mindset.

  • @CLGLazarus
    @CLGLazarus Před 2 lety +73

Without spoiling anything, Coach I'd recommend paying careful attention to how Rintaro and Aran talk about the mechanics of the game. Rintaro's assessment of Tsukki up to now is that Tsukki is basically scared. Most middle blockers would react to a hitter like Rintaro by adjusting the block and trying to go for those lower angles the way you were saying Kageyama did with blocking Aran. But Tsukki keeps doing the same thing, going up straight, and giving Rintaro an "easy" block to get around. So at the end, he's saying that compared to Tsukki, Kageyama is a much "scarier" block, a block that Rintaro and others have to respect because it can kill if you're not careful. But as we know with Tsukki, thanks to his mentor Kuroo, the best block is the block that laughs last. I'll say to keep following that dichotomy going into the rest of the series.

Hey Coach! The fox in the intermission references not only Inarizaki's mascot, but also its role in Shintoism. Foxes, or kitsunes, are messengers/representations of the Shinto kami/goddess, Inari, goddess of rice, harvest, agriculture, fertility etc. They are treated with an air of mysticism and are described to be highly intelligent and have paranormal powers. Its symbolism has since expanded in modern times to things like business and money too. They can be seen at shrines dedicated to them.
I might be wrong about this, but I also feel like Shinsuke Kita's Grandma's superstition stems from Shinto beliefs. In Shintoism, Japan's unique religion, there is life in every form of matter, whether it be actually living or a pebble in the river. As such, there is a god for essentially any object in this world, which is why she says "the gods are always watching." Although Shinsuke had long outgrown such superstition, it definitely had a profound impact on how he conducts himself, as if someone was always watching him. The reason I mention this is because at 20:35, Shinsuke's line, "I'm watching all of you" essentially shows how he has now become the god that watches his team.
It's some awesome symbolism, especially since in the first episode of this match, when Inarizaki and Karasuno were posing in symbolic backdrops, Inarizaki stood on some steps in front of a torii, which is a gate usually seen in front of a Shinto shrine. Karasuno stood lower on the steps, framed in darkness, as if they were some new, intruding beasts of the night.

One of my fav aspects of haikyuu!! (though it’s very hard to choose!) is how it portrays different but realistic leadership styles with each of the captains of its teams. Almost all of the focused on teams has a different style, and it just really impresses me that Furudate (the writer of the manga) managed to depict so many recognizable and engaging leadership dynamics. I think it really shows that not all good leaders look the same, and maybe encourages people to look at themselves and decide which leadership type they can fit to their own personality.

They didn't really try to switch Tanaka to blocking in the middle, it was just the way it had to be with Hinata(The middle blocker)committed to blocking Osamu Miya. With Hinata occupied, someone had to block the middle and that happened to be Tanaka.

A Volleyball team that wears mostly black, with a Japanese Youth Team level Setter who excels at serving, a shorter-than-usual middle blocker that has an unusual Quick, a tall middle blocker that specializes in defense, an Ace that can get on a roll and smash through blocks, a Team Captain that's great at receives and calming his team down, and a duo that argue with each other a lot.
There's a lot of similarities between Karasuno and Inarizaki, and I think Furudate specifically had Karasuno wear their alternate uniforms to reinforce the idea that Inarizaki is a more advanced version of Karasuno.

In anime you will often see a pair of siblings referring to the Gin (silver) and Kin (gold) twins. They were Japan's oldest living identical twins living for 107 yrs. They were considered national treasures due to how long they lived compared to the average lifespan for people in Japan. Another thing to note is that Inari is a reference to the god of agriculture. The god is usually associated/seen with a kitsune (fox).

So little clarification since you seemed confused but Kita is in fact the captain. His jersey has the captain bar under the 1 on the front but I don’t think it has it on the back as far as I could see and there were also several zoomed in shots where the bar was cut off so I can understand the confusion. I’m not a manga reader so I can’t say for any future opponents but I think every team other than Fukurodani (and maybe a minor team they played during qualifiers where maybe it was number 2 but I don’t remember) has the captain as number 1.

  • @kageseiryuu8675
    @kageseiryuu8675 Před 2 lety +5

23:50 Inari is the name of a Japanese god closely associated with foxes
24:15 Rintaro(Suna) is annoyed that Tsukki seemingly doesn't put any effort once he jumped for the block
Usually a blocker would try to at least move their arms last second or move into the block to stop the spiker, which Tsukki doesn't do
I think he (Rintaro) finds it vexing that despite Tsukki having shown that he is a good blocker he seems to have given up stopping his spikes already - it's no fun/you get no satisfaction if you don't get a challenge from the block
like that time with Hinata in season1 I think when Karasuno played against Johzenji(the party team in yellow with the manager that kept them in check)
Instead of trying to block Hinata's quick they decided to not block him and receive his spikes instead
Hinata then grumbled that he hates being blocked but getting completely ignored was even more annoying
38:10 Dateko and Inarizaki are from completely different prefectures so Rintaro probably has never played against Dateko's Iron Wall
They'd only meet on a national tournament level or during a skirmish/practice match (which aint too probable given distance I'd say)

And most captains are one of the oldest players in their team so they're given the #1 jersey, also having the underline below the number. In the case of Karasuno:
    #1-3: Third years
    #4-8: Second years
    #9-12: First years

Kita's conversation with Aran about doing in games what you do in practice (trying to be more than you are) was originally aired during a time where I was trying to be more than I am with my writing (that is, absolutely perfect) to the point that it was causing me to doubt every single sentence I had written.
Kita's words helped me. I won't say that I am completely over being a perfectionist, but Kita's words are simple, yet profound. Once I began to write just as I do in my day-to-day, I began to see a ton of progress with my Master's thesis. I made time later to do corrections as needed, but what came out of that situation was the realization that I am how I practice, and that's how I need to be when executing monumental tasks. As my Literary Theory professor once said to me, "The word 'perfect' originally meant 'to be complete,' so if you complete your work, then it's perfect."

I’ve been waiting for this episode! Kita Shinsuke is a favorite character for me since I view him as the embodiment of Haikyuu’s overall lesson of hard work. So many other characters could also represent that hard work, but with Shinsuke’s story, it’s the small everyday routines of taking care of oneself that had the greatest effect imo. I find his consistency and work ethic to be very inspiring and applicable to real life. It’s comforting to know that every action you take means something, no matter how small or repetitive it is.
Also, loved your reaction here! I really like that you take the time to talk about volleyball techniques and animation. It makes me want to try playing again lol

He's basically saying that a blocker that isn't getting block after block isn't scary(Tsukki has like 2 kill blocks so far in the match). The reason why "Inarizaki" has a fox reference it's because "Inari" it's the goddess of fertility in the Shinto religion and she has fox harbingers/herald so her image is really tied to the fox image (that's why when Karasuno first encounter with Inarizaki the image was a Japanese temple), and not only that Inarizaki is a known clever, astute team like a fox.
And as a side note "Nekoma" reference to cats is because "Neko" it's Cat in Japanese and "Karasuno" reference to crows it's 'cause "Karasu" it's Crow in Japanese.

Asahi stopped playing in the start of the serie because he hasn't trust in himself, he don't liked that pressure of being the last resource of the team, and seeing him saying "even if it's not an A pass i will make it through" just makes me think how much has he evolved, not just as a player but as a person too.
