    The High Press Explained!
The high press has been increasing in popularity over the past decade, thanks to possession hungry managers such as Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola. While there are many different reasons as to why a team will look to press the defenders and goalkeepers, the main objective is to retain possession and slowly starve the opposition of the ball by giving them no time to make a play.
In this video we're going to be taking a look at the main advantages of the high press, and why it's the best counter to build-up play. A team may look to initiate their press at any moment, using either High, Mid, or low block structures to stop the opposition in their tracks. In this video we focus mostly on the high block structure as this is the most common in high pressing teams.
Thank you everyone for the continuous support!

Spanish manager. Pep. Arteta is different. already more influenced by years of quick PL football. Xavi doesnt mind to attack quickly after pressing. And I, actually, cant think of any other spanish coaches that consistently high press/gegenpress. thing is that many midtable/bottom teams in La Liga mostly sit in low blocks. which allows possession hungry teams like Barca to not even press much.

A simple note, high pressure requires strong players, because this style of play is exhausting, and there should not be lazy players, because they will cause big problems for their team's defenses and allow the opposing team to build a very dangerous attack and get rid of the pressure, and I think that Managers choose certain times to apply pressure because it is stressful ، right ?

@@FootballMeta It is fairly common, and has the same purpose as Gegenpressing in forcing the opposing team to make an error or to regain the ball. But it is quickly tiring esp. since only one or two players from the defending team tend to perform the full-court press defence

MLS team St Louis CITY SC uses a high press with attacking mentality... This has been described as a "Red Bull" style of Gegenpress. Which of the three managers above do you feel this is the most similar to? Since STL City normally has low possession numbers I would assume it's more like Klopp's style?

If he's being marked it usually means there's channels either side of him for the other midfielders to move into, or even for the attackers to drop deep. Remember that when building up you will always have a man advantage, so one of your players being man marked could be a good thing to create opportunities somewhere else

Pressing is not a choice but a reaction to the quality of your team vs the quality level of your opponents. You simply cant do this against teams who are better than you. This is a way to negate low blocks, a tactic which the technically inferior team are forced into on the pitch, not even as a tactical decision taken by the manager.

Liverpoool always press City into mistakes and long balls. Pressing is proactive way of playing instead of waiting for errors in midblock. with good coordinated pressing (which takes a lot of time to develop) you initiate the course of the game not your opponent. widespread midblocks are actually sad watch as they point to coaches' lack of imagination and courage.
