Jumpin' Jesus; are you kiddin' me? Perfectly flown. Get hot oil into the propeller dome by cycling the prop, then the mag check. Before takeoff, set flaps to 20 degrees, tighten friction on throttle and propeller, roll a few feet insuring centering tailwheel lock, smoothly advance throttle to full, double checking friction lock. Proper attitude on takeoff roll. Signed, 'The Feeble Rat' ATP/CIFI
Yeah, what a dumb place to put a runway. I've had 5 engine failures in 20,000 hours of flying. It just happens sometimes and this place would give you no good options.
Sometimes there isn’t an option for better environment for your strip. Aircraft are a huge advantage to remote locations. In 23000 hours I’ve had one complete engine failure and that was in a DC8. @@OneTequilaTwoTequila
So many mods I'd put on before an IO-550. Okay if the TBO of your engine has run out anyway, but the guys that go spending boatloads of $$$ on an engine upgrade to get 15hp added to the max continuous hp are just throwing money away if they don't have all the STOL mods on it, which are a lot cheaper and produce greater gains. An IO-520D produces 300hp for 5 minutes anyway. Who runs around at full power beyond 5 minutes anyway?
boy if you have an engine out during take off your going to be sawing lumber!!! with no soft place to put it down . On the other side Landing appears to be very dicey also. Not much room for a go around / do over approach. Damn good Pilot
Dan Moberly yes, engine out you're pretty much toast. There is a point of no return on final approach which is when you cross the northern bank of the river
I'm pretty sure i just seen this aircraft on trade-a-plane for $210,000. Which for the moddifications is a good price. Edit.. Nvm its a near identical model

Haha, I just said the same thing when I started watching it. Not a lot of 185s with belly pods. Makes me think about getting a belly pod on my 180hp 170b.
Rick, I love seeing old MAF 185’s Flying. I’m an MAF MK from Papua, Indonesia (‘83-‘91). My dad is headed out to Kalimantan in a few weeks to creat up the last 185. It’s the end of an era. The Kodiak is very impressive but the 185 is a classic.
@@rickroark81 i wonder how much MAF was selling them for? I would have bought one and they were probabaly less than they cost now.Flying is getting crazzy expensive insurance etc.. but i still fly cessna 182 and a 180 as a second job.
Beautiful property and aircraft! Thanks for sharing
Nice airplane. Mike takes great care of it. I’ve had the privilege of doing a couple inspections on it over the years.
Both the scenery and the airplane taking off are beautiful. Great video.
"Hey Jerry.....can you get those runaway sprinklers on we got someone who needs wash before takeoff."
Crazy to take off staring at a mountain you can't out climb! Very cool.
Plus he has his own built wash and rinse (sprinkler system). Luv it..
MAF training flight! Proud of their professionalism! Great job.
That plane appears to have one in the oven. Will it be a 120 or a 140?
Pure awesome! Reminds me of "plane day "growing up in the bush.
Beautiful Cessna 185 also some of the last Taildraggers made by CESSNA !! Have many Safe Flights and may GOD bless U !!
Oh ....... the lawn sprinklers are a nice touch!

that echo its amazing
My rule for one way strips...make your approach and landing a good one.
I have 800 hours in 185F. God I miss it!
okay!
YES this is the Goood Life don't forget 2 Thank ur GOD in case you got one !! Have Fun B Safe and lots of Flying GOD Bless you !! ❤❤😊😊
My dream plane!

El Famoso 185 Cessna muy Bonito avión yo Volé en 1985 el 185 saludos atodos 🛩
I love the look of a belly pod
Yeah, yeah you rigth, that's what I was thinking, kind of gives it more body obviously, daaaah.
Really? It makes an otherwise great looking airplane look like a pot bellied pig.
Wish I can camping in there , nice scenary
This plane kicks ass!!
Nice plane !
That was VERY NICE.
WOW....
Beautiful scenery
It would REALLY, REALLY SUCK to lose an engine going in or out of there!

@@OneTequilaTwoTequila pretty common in Alaska. Just one of the risks of backcountry flying.

Hey they came back to get me after I took video of that great takeoff. Phew sure glad they did.
Well hell they had to... ya know, to get the video
So what was he carrying out on take off... seems fairly well loaded
Wow
Wow
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Precisely what I think: no chance for a go around.
Welcome to flying in Alaska. It's a risk that must be accepted by bush pilots, even if they're not in Alaska.
A little dicey. Wouldn't want to tweak that bottom tank the wrong way. Quite a stretch.
Is this Paul Dyes airplane?
Was it fully loaded + 6 inside? Saw one doing almost as good as this one... Fully loaded(6p, baggage underneath and full tanks)
Fel Ta No, just three, a dog and some gear, not fully loaded.
@@rickroark81 engine sounds stock right?
God bless you brother. U r living tje life there.
Fel Ta I wish! It’s my dad’s airplane. It’s got the Bonaire IO-550 conversion.
It's Pregnant! OK, who are the pilots who flew her 9 months ago??? Come on man up!
Dont know the plane but i know that logo.
very nice i like how much?
almost full power to taxi through the septic tank sprinkler system bog.
It’s uphill there at the end, not sure if that’s obvious on the video.
Steep uphill. Gradient??
Was hoping the camera would pan back so we could see the whole mountain in front of the departure. Not a place for amateurs.
What is that hump under the belly of the plane
It’s a cargo pod
Requirements: Wings of aluminum, balls of steel😇

is this a former MAF aircraft donated to Moody aviation by MAF or just privately owned
Skywagon II It is my dad's. He bought it from MAF back in '03 when they were retiring the 185 fleet. He flew with MAF back in the late 70s early 80s.
