    • @phoenix211245
      @phoenix211245 Před měsícem +3

      That's cause they had A LOT in reserve. Though, in case you haven't noticed, since feb 2024, dthere has been an increasing number of t62, and even t54/55 models appearing.
      I would say that seeing unmodified 1967 era t62's, or even older 1959 t54B's, and still older t54-3's does seem to indicate that the easily repairable replacements are running out.
      Realistically, Russia is not likely to run out of tanks. So far they lost around 3000 out of 10500-11000 they had. What they are going to run out of is tanks that are easy and quick to reactivate.
      We are already seeing local commanders improvising, like with the "garage" apc thingy they made because the turret was stuck. If they had tanks available, why didn't they send it in for repair and call another one in fron reserve?

    • @phoenix211245
      @phoenix211245 Před měsícem +3

      @@lawrencezammit3979 We have semi-decent confirmation for around 3000 tanks. Assuming that some of it is exaggerated, and that there were tanks destroyed that didn't get on that list, let's count around 3000 combat losses.
      Then you have to account for the fact that a lot of the reserve was parked in open air, in Siberia, and left there for 40 years. And in the 90's there was no money for at all for anybody leading to gross theft.
      When they started reactivating the reserve in 22, they found whole batallions of tanks gutted for copper and rare metals.
      So the 7000 loss number could actually be practical. The hull and barrel won't care about rust, but everything else, from electronics to the engine, transmission, etc, would need complete replacement on a lot of them. When it takes just as much effort to reactivate a tank from reserve as it does to build a new one, it really should be counted as a practical loss. Of course, the Russians won't do that, they need lies for their propaganda.

    I can't imagine building tanks in Russia just knowing what took me months to build was going to be driven by children and blown up in sometimes less than a week. They just don't want to send the new ones to the front and show they are already blown up. This seems to be the new fate of tanks.

    It must be tempting for Russian tankers to adopt this strategy:
    - Get into no-mans-land (not too far) and pretend to have broken down
    - Bail out and run for home, leaving all the hatches open
    - Let the drones have the tank
    - Know that your side is running out of tanks, can't resupply, and that you are going to stay alive longer

      The hatch is not so easy to close, it opens with a torsion, like a spring, and is fixed in this position, the hatch is closed with a special key, all this requires time, which tankers simply do not have. First of all, after a mine explosion, or being hit by a shell or rocket, they think about their lives, quickly leave, and run away from the tank before something else flies into it, or tank explodes, no one thinks about closing the hatches in such a situation, especially since they are usually shell-shocked.
