50/50 because most of those mines are anti ifv and anti tank which means the mines need a certain pressure to explode for example an anti infantry mine needs 10kg to blow up or 20lbs but anti tank and ifv need more then 300,400kg or 450,500lbs to explode most mines are anti tank so i think it wont be so bad

and that aside and togher the anti tank mine fields are also peppered antipersonnel mines that will make any attempt of clearing a truly dangerous and herculean effort?
@@tripleh327 yes but they can use ploughs or flails (spinning chains). The plough clearing machines are usually more effective but are very slow. Or By contrast, the goal of humanitarian demining is to remove all of the landmines to a given depth and make the land safe for human use. Specially trained dogs are also used to narrow down the search and verify that an area is cleared. Mechanical devices such as flails and excavators are sometimes used to clear mines.

there are entire woods that are still considered highly dangerous zones after 20 years because nobody is sure if they are really mine free
not to mention farming equipment like tractors and plowws that will unearth for years deadly devices
the spinning chain is a method that can work to clear a LINE to create a safe corridor for travel use during a mission or a patrol
it is not an effective method of clearing minefields
you will have to go step by step with metal detectors and higly trained teams and search inch by inch
and then you can miss something
will you be willing to walk and farm on field where "supposedly" they have cleared "almost" all the mines??

Lesson learned. Ukraine has 0 airplanes for CAS mission, FPV drones are doing it's job because they don't have enough shells nor artillery. Drones are useful, but their ratio is only good in Ukraine, in any other war they would be completely garbage.

We know Russian tanks have 3 crew even if you lowball crew losses to 3000 tanks that is 9000 casualties.
Perspective, that is the total casualties for the allied forces in the first 24 hours of D-Day. All beaches all landings including paras.
Of those lowballed 9000 you have 3000 tank drivers, can you imagine trying to train enough replacements?
And the cost of training, drivers, loaders etc. All adds up.
Poor replacement training probably accounts for the panicked crappy driving, driving over mines.
Once you are into the losses Russia has in tanks and APCs then you hit the law of diminishing returns hard.

In the thirties, the Americans built several tractor factories in russia. They were used to assemble tanks well in wartime. Of course, they stole their design from tanks from different countries. And it’s welded on top later. Drone grilles. These drones fly in perfectly from the side.

After serving 22 active duty years in the US Army as a 19D and later a 19K the Ukrainian war gives me cause to rethink whether I'd do it all over again in a tank in this type of conflict. It makes being an 11B look a whole lot better than I used to think.

I was in an armor recon unit but I was mostly support when not in the field, usually only saw the inside of a tank when I was working on the commo. Sobering, to see the inside of a tank that had been taken out, everything inside not pulverized was charred and melted. War just plain sucks.
The battlefield is changing quickly, the superiority of tanks is coming into question. What an era, this was has changed our views greatly.

They are not confidently riding at topsy APC. Those Russian APCs are quite susceptible to mines. So it is safer to be on top of it if it hits a mine.

It's not that the APCs are that vulnerable. It's because mines have become so powerful. In 'Nam the infantry grunts also rode atop their M-113 APCs for the same reason. A mine intended to take out a main battle tank is gonna demolish an APC.

I remember how a couple of line troops talked about some APC drivers had pieces of broomsticks or the like, green-taped to the laterals of their M-113 so they could set the throttle and steer and brake while perched on the edge of the driver's hatch, saying at least they'd probably keep from being blown out of the hatch like a mortar round if they hit a mine. It was always something... 🙂

Some say it's more important to kill men, but, if you think about it, a three million dollar tank represents the lifetime work effort of several people. So destroying a tank is an important event -- and it does seem easier now. Worth noting, though, that it's said that Germany lost almost all of the tanks that it started with (3,300 or so) during their first year of fighting in Stalin's Russia, due to losses, breakdowns, burnt-out engines, etc. So I guess they've never been invincible.

@@antanas6111 Unsupported armor is easy meat for both drones and dismounted infantry. Modern militaries use the concept of combined arms operations. This lets you control the battlefield and acts as a massive force multiplier.

Why yes, lone or small groups of tanks that foolishly venture out with zero infantry support on open ground are vulnerable.
The Bradley in this specific engagement got lucky, it faced an equivalent opponent with zero risk of being outflanked; had infantry closed in with MANPATs, the Bradley has few if any defenses against tandem HEAT warheads. Its aluminum armor is insufficient to defend against anything that can outperform its limited coverage of ERA.
All that said, staying at distance and engaging light armor with the M242 was a smart move by the commander; ATGMs are not in great supply, best to save them for a real tank.

No. After tank is damaged they escpe. Tank usually explode after few minutes. It is not that easy to kill crew inside a tank. You need to make direct hit and penetration. Drones cannot do that
