Yeah, I think that they should certainly try listening to Sinead O'Connor also. Mandinka or The Emperor's New Clothes would be a good start because they're rockers. To really go down the traditional Irish path, Loreena Mckennitt - The Mummers Dance and Clannad - An Gleann are very beautiful songs. Or for something different Ashley MacIsaac and Mary Jane Lamond - Sleepy Maggie.

I saw The Cranberries in concert back in the late 90s. When they got to this song, they brought out this young girl from the Make-A-Wish Foundation and had her sing the song with them. It was the girls biggest dream to sing with her favorite band. There wasn't a dry eye in the house... There were at least 5000 people at the concert. I'll never forget it. :)

Irish female singers are some of my favourites. They have so much depth to them. Two Irish sisters are some of the best I've ever heard. One, and probably the most famous out of the two, is Enya and the other is her elder sister Moya Brenin who was the lead singer for the band Clannad. There's just something about the Irish singing voice for me. It's beautiful.
Brad's smile when Dolores starts singing is the smile many of us make. Her voice is a true gift that we have all been blessed to hear.
I love how your face lights up when you hear her voice just as much as I love how giddy Lex gets when an amazing guitar solo kicks in.

Highly recommend "Ode To My Family" or "When You're Gone" by the Cranberries. Dolores' voice is angelic on both songs... But if you want to hear the raw power of her voice, their song "Promises" live in Paris is absolutely incredible!
I definitely want "Promises" (see my comment). The only "problem" with the Paris performance is that they don't do the "oooh-oooh" part at the start and go right into the song. Still great, butâŠ

This is get-alone, lie-on-the-bed, with-your-eyes-closed, and headphones-on, and become-immersed-in-the-music music.
One of my favorite things about these reactions is when Lex smiles while looking over at Brad. Just the light up in her expression and those check bones. That smile is contagious.
Hopefully i'm early enough that you'll see this before it gets lost in the hundreds of comments. You will get a lot of recommendations for Ode To My Family, When You're Gone and Salvation... all good songs, but also all singles that got a lot of radio play. I would recommend going for some deeper cuts and checking out songs like.. Them, Daffodil Lament, Yeat's Grave (there's 2 short spoken bits in this song so you really get to hear her lovely Limerick accent), and Sunday. Some underrated and underappreciated songs, but all with great sound (as always) in Dolores's voice.
And Lex rightly points out at 4:38 about the layering of her voice. The way she harmonizes with herself is amazing and adds to that angelic sound that she produces.
Great recommendations, especially Yeat's Grave for the reasons stated.
It's really nice to get to see Brad really enjoy a song. I feel like a lot of times he's just along for the ride, and he isn't really enjoying the music that much.

Been binge watching y'alls reaction to metal music, cuz I grew up listening to it, along with country, rock and 80's music. But, Dolores from the cranberries does bring a smile to your face and a calm to the soul. This song and her voice is beautiful. RIP Dolores
I grew up here in Ireland, it's strange to think that this traditional Irish singing technique is unusual in other parts of the world, especially since all my favourite female vocalists have come from African American gospel and Jazz music

If you turned on VH1 in the mid â90s, you were going to see one of their videos at some point over the next hour or so.
Another unique voice with sort of a "yodel" effect is Jewel (also pretty big in the '90s). Check her out... best starting point would probably be her first big single, "Who Will Save Your Soul".

The sound is known as keening. Itâs, oddly enough, an Irish tradition that was done at funerals in times past. Professional mourners would be hired and they would weep, wail and keen for the deceased. While this practice has now gone out of style in Ireland, the great thing is that Dolores OâRiordan (the woman singing this song and the lead singer for The Cranberries) took something originally based on loss and sadness and make it an expression of joy and happiness.
It was one of my favorite bands when I was a teen in the 90s. I was blown away when while taking a walk listening to the news on headphones I unexpectedly learned of her tragic death.

Dolores' death was one of those unexpected, out-of-nowhere shocking losses. One day she was fine, next day she was gone. She also duetted with Luciano Pavarotti live on stage back in the 90s, singing 'Ave Maria'. You should check that out.

This song has always been one of my favorites of theirs. It's just so beautiful. The outro especially, when the full band comes in with that melodic guitar and those huge foot-stomping drums, there's just something uplifting about it. Music can make you feel all kinds of things, and the outro to this song just makes me feel pure joy. Like the perfect happiness of a beautiful dream.
