"She can sing" what a comment that made me smile. She was and will always be an absolute legend and icon.
Honestly, ever dude has a crush on Dolores because of he voice. Literal siren.
She wrote this song being on the road all the time with The Cranberries and being homesick, she wrote it about her mom and dad, when her dad passed away there were many concerts she did where this song wasnât included because it was too painful for her to sing. When she could finally sing it again, she would have the audience sing the part about her father and she would cry. I miss Dolores every single day. There will never be anyone like her
Dolores Had The Voice Of An Angel..Her Singing Style Is Known As "Keening" In Ireland,, It Is Usually Used To Mourn/Honor The Deceased At Funerals..R.i.P. Dolores đ â€
@tell lie vision I Have No Idea What You Are Talking About,, But Ok.
I also heard she was very good at yodeling and she incorporated that into her singing. I may be wrong. Just something I heard.
@tell lie vision your opinion đ not ours đđ
Agree đŻ She was Amazing and is solely Missed!! RIP đąđâ€ïžđ
@@markleicht8243 No you're right bud. Not exactly yodelling but a Celtic version of it..I'd call her a 'chanteuse'..R.I.P Dolores
Brad smiles every time he plays a Cranberries song. I think itâs safe to say heâs a fan.
Pulsating sausage Boy?
I find it a melancholy song, but maybe that's just because she offed herself a few years back sadly.
@@svenpoletka5236 Itâs been ruled an accidental drowning. She did not off herself. She drank to much alcohol and passed out in the bathtub.
Brad continues to be blown away by Dolores's voice. Hearing comments about texture and layers sounds like Lex talking. A pleasure to see you enjoy this so much.
Dolores..Just Sayin.
She really does seem to be one of the few musicians that he'll 'ride along with' without over analyzing it. And as a result, his conclusions end up being really insightful. And if he really likes unusual phrasing, he should do more Irish artists, or someone like more Joni Mitchell.
@@happymethehappyone8300 Dolores' just saying ;)
@@allenjoy947 Wasn't Trying To Be Smart,, Just Respectful.
@@happymethehappyone8300 Me too sure ;)
Delores had a very unique voice that anybody could say THAT is a Cranberries song. She will be missed.
Dolores..Just Sayin.
4ever n always !!! RIP Dolores
I always think of my Father when I hear this song. It makes me really sad. Love your parents guys while you have them. They won't always be there. RIP dad.
So true! I still have my parents around but I'm very aware of passing time.
Wish you all the best!
Her Celtic style is magical
R.I.P. Dolores O'Riordon. Such a beautiful woman with a voice like an angel. đđźđȘđđđđźđȘđ
That thing she does with her voice is called "keening". Its a style of singing used in old Irish/Celtic funeral rites and such.
Yep. Both her and Sinead O'Connor are masters at it.
I think Brad got him a Deloris crush. As soon as she starts singing, he breaks out in a smile.
He ainât alone
i have it with Lex
I'm from Ireland, your video is very respectful of the Cranberries. Thank you
Uhh this whole CD was made in heaven LOL. It's so good. I STILL listen to it.
Ridiculous Thoughts, No Need To Argue, Yeatâs Grave - all great, but geez Daffodilâs Lament was so, so good.
In my opinion one of the greatest female voices of all time.
Just for this post I could marry you !
@@JB-tl6fs HAHAHAH well, we already know what the music would be LOLOL
@@lisajohnson521 let's do it now...do we have to...do we have to let in linger ? đ
I'm 100% backing Brad with his crush on Dolores and her magic...she could sing Mein Kampf and make it sound like the most beautiful thing you've ever heard. Miss her so much, what a treasure.
haha some women just have that, like for me, women like mariyln monroe, kate bush, delores, cyndi lauper, they have that magnetic thing about them, a vulnerability I guess, it makes me just want to protect them
Man that is funny đđ
I had a crush on Delores starting when I saw her on MTV Unplugged as a teenager!
Absolutely *sigh*
Another creative artist taken away to soon Delores was so creative.
Dolores..Just Sayin.
"Dolores!"

The way Brad is just in pure love with this band is everything to my 90âs teenage self. #cranberriesstan
Look up her Tiny Desk concert. One of the last things she did before passing. She talks in between songs with that thick Irish accent.
It's just a beautiful Irish accent brad, Irish accent's are just naturally beautiful.
I agree. I love to hear Irish people speak. Itâs so beautiful to my ears đ€Łdonât know why. I just like itđ€·đŸââïž
Limerick has a great accent and Dolores let her accent through in her singing. Used to enjoy our friends from Limerick saying "fillim" for film and "millick" for milk, turning them into two syllable words.
The Irish can curse and speak gibberish to me and they'd still have me swooning.
@@44.caliberbrainsurgery63 That's lucky. We mostly speak gibberish and curse đ
definitely. Irish women melt my heart.
Brad falling for that voice hard.
So should any guy
Dolores sang so beautifully with that strong Limerick accent shining through, that's one of the things that made her special, she didn't lose her accent when she sang, it became stronger and lent itself to the music.
There's a reason why for Billboard's Alternative Songs she was voted top female artist of all time.
I had the privilege of seeing the Cranberries live in concert back in 1993. I will never forget the performance.
I consider myself so lucky to have seen the Cranberries live. I remember her singing this song and it was pure perfection.
An amazing blessing!
Brad - you're encountering the beauty of Delores' voice. That Limerick accent is lovely. Suffer along with the rest of the world - her voice was truly a gift from god.
She was a unique woman, nobody could ever hold a candle to her voice. An Irish beauty inside and out. My heart mourns for her still. The world lost a treasure RIP Delores O'Riordan
I've always thought when she said being "out there", meant being rebellious... And she's saying that even during that time, her parents were still supportive and there for her. Thus the ode to my family.
Yup, I think I read somewhere that she left home as an act of rebelliance after an argument ... her mom embraced her at that moment when she was leaving home.
But the song is more to do with her wondering how her love ones think of her becoming a singer.
In it, she wonders if they they keep track of her in the news and media (does anyone care), she wonders if they like her performing on stage (do you like me standing there) ... and she's comforted to know that her dad likes her performance (my father he liked me) ... she surprised about her gaining success so quickly (it wasn't my design, people think something better than I am) and she tells her boyfriend (probably ex-bf) if he knows that she still misses him, she wish he would come to find her but he never did ...
Dolores O'Riordan is a sad loss to Music passing at the tender age of 46. This has to be one of my favourite Cranberries songs and the video that goes with it is is classic.
Dolores is amazing. Makes me so sad that sheâs no longer with us.
đđ Me too
I totally agree, its still hard to comprehend...đȘ
Dolores was one of the few unique singers. She didn't hide her accent. Sinead O'Connor is similar.
She said, she wrote it when she was missing her family while being on tour. Now I'm guessing for this part, but the "Does anyone care" part is probably like - I'm this cool, loved artist on stage, but does anyone REALLY care how I feel, that I miss my parents?
Her voice was glorious..the keening and the lilting quality was sublime
For some reason I'd forgot about this song, it's absolutely beautiful, another voice lost to the Angels.
An ode is a form of lyric poetry - expressing emotion - and it's usually addressed to someone or something, or it represents the poet's musings on that person; poem praising or glorifying an event or individual.
This ode to family is so sweet, just Irish really
"My father... he liked me." The understatement of that always made it seem so powerful. Brilliant lyric.
Facts
She always gets me with that line
So she was saying her father liked her inappropriately? đ© I always worried that when I heard it but refused to accept it
In the video, when that line about her Father comes, she chooses not to lip sync it and it breaks me every time đđđ
@@acy2004 that's false it was a family friend
What I love about her voice is she doesn't mask her accent. So many foreign (to the USA) singers who sing in English mask their accent to be more mainstream. Not this woman. Also she puts a lot breathy sounds in her words. I think that's the texture you're referring to. Such a beautiful voice. Before her death I have to admit I was only briefly into their music during the early 90's (this song, Zombie, Linger, etc.) Since her passing I have since checked out more of their stuff and it's all good stuff! RIP
R.I.P to a true great. Dolores was and still is amazing, will be missed. Great channel you two đ.
I really like the lyrics in the second verse "people everywhere think better than I am". This was at the height of their fame and she was aware that her fans idolised her "character" and not the real her. She was feeling lonely on tour. She had a close relationship with both her parents. To the point she made the crowd sing the part about her father at concerts after his death because she couldn't do it without crying. The lyrics were wrong in the pre-chorus. "Unhappiness, where's when I was young we didn't give a damn". Makes more sense with correct lyrics.
Dolores is the quintessential classic Irish singer..A once in a lifetime talent that is unparalleled and unique in a way that cannot be duplicated.
RIP, Delores. I love her so much!
Dolores said in an interview that the song was written/inspired by when they were on tour in the U.S. and how she was missing home and her family. So, it is a wholesome song.
I've always said Delores has the voice of an angel, now she is a real angel. RIP Delores!
Iâm a metal head but I love the cranberries!! Lol Delores OâRiordan is such a badass singer I know sheâs gone but will never be forgotten!!
"Everyone else is doing it so why cant we?" is my favorite Cranberries album. Love her voice on the songs "Pretty" and "Waltzing Back"
Goodness gracious. The first time I see Brad's facial expression change - I think, I think, because of music. I think, he is actually feeling it. And emoting, like genuinely. Kudos!
This is their third Cranberries song, he's loved her from the start.
Four years later and I still cry at the sound of her heavenly voice. RIP sweet Dolores.
She talked exactly as she sang, maybe even more musically.
She utilizes the traditional Irish singing style called Keening. Haunting and Beautiful!
How do you NOT cry listening to the absolute loveliness of Delores' voice? I know I am. She's soul stirring.
Comparing Dolores' voice to a lava lamp is probably the best I've heard. On more than one occasion I've lost myself in her voice
She was so unique and sang so beautifully. I was lucky enough to jump on the Cranberries bandwagon at the beginning when no one else I knew was into them.
Delores wrote this song about coming to America from Ireland and the price of becoming famous.
She just wants to be with her family and friends, and instead sheâs in lonely hotel rooms thinking about her next show, her next album, her next interview, her next obligation.
Itâs about a loss of innocence and a sort of separation anxiety, in a word, sheâs homesick.
Thank you for sharing this outlook on the song. Even though you can feel the emotional pain in this song, it radiates with beauty at the same time.
Her singing was almost otherworldly. Try listening to her rendition of "Ave Maria" without crying. I double-dog dare ya.
Her Irish accent is lovely.
one of the most underrated songs ever. Still gives me lovely goosebumps whe I hear it. Thank you for taking me back there
This song is so uncomplicated and straightforward and it moves me so deeply. It's my favorite Cranberries song.
Easily, beyond easily, possibly the greatest female voice ever to grace music. Whenever I listen to Dolores, it's like there has NEVER been another female singer. Pure, unadulterated talent. Raw. Pure.
Dolores was so special
The song is about In a 2017 interview that the lead singer of The Cranberries, Dolores O'Riordan, granted to Songfacts, she revealed the meaning behind âOde to My Familyâ. According to her, the lyrics are about the choice she made to pursue the career of a rock star and the misunderstanding she had with her parents regarding her choice.
They were like Sublime, one of a kind. There's a vid of her in like a tiny room singing this, it'll make ya cry, so beautiful. She just pours out emotion...very rare. And she was magnetic.
Ireland and Wales have long been noted for producing stellar singers. Dunno why.
Is U2 from Ireland?
I review weed products on my CZcams channel
@@docwatson8848 yes
@Bob Bob thanks I wonder if Brad & Lex have reacted to With or Without You by U2 or any of their songs
It's the Celtic side of us đ
Itâs that beautiful Irish âïž accent we have đ. Itâs funny to see Brad smile as soon as she hits that first R đ€Ł. P.s they were from my home town limerick
Unhappiness, where`s when I was young ......RIP Dolores....I miss you
She can sing. Ive been a fan of hers since the 90s. The demons always seemed to be chasing her. RIP beautiful soul.
Wow, Brad gets so lost in the sound of her voice, he doesnât even ask what itâs about! đ
I did wonder the same thing, Lex, about that lyric, but I do think Brads right about that. At least thatâs how it sounded to me.
I think for once this song is literal enough for him, too! ;P
this is SO true LOL - and during metal songs he's so analytical instead of just taking it in
I'm in tears you guys, miss her so much.. Please check her solo work it's amazing too, her final beautiful work
She was just the most beautiful human being. we were lucky to have her.
@@drasteek totally..
The brightest lights shine so strong and then they leave us. So tragic that so many supreme talents are gone, either through substance abuse or suicide. It is so very sad.
Delores was such an amazing talent as was the band. I was lucky enough to see them in the early 90âs and they sound EXACTLY like their albums. Absolutely love them! â€ïž
This is my personal favorite Cranberries song. Linger was etheral and Zombie was an anthem. But this song was about home and hearth.
A woman with an Irish accent is my Kryptonite, but honestly Dolores probably had the loveliest speaking voice I've ever heard - (and obviously a beautiful singing voice as well)
the confusing lines are interpreted by me to mean she actually got, from her family, what everyone says their parents didnt do to explain their issues. my mother didnt show me enough attention and my father treated me like i wasnt there. to say my mother held me and my father liked me shows that she felt the love they had for her. basically the opposite of an angst filled rant.
Man Brad, it makes me feel good to see you as caught up by her voice as I am đ
When the lights go low, Lex wants metal and Brad wants the Cranberries and cuddle time. Great channel, BTW.
that could be why lex loves the Brad...
The Cranberries was my momÂŽs favorite group, everytime i listen to their songs i remember my dear mom. Thank you so much for reacting to this song, really good memories.
Irish angel. RIP DOLORES
I can see from ur reaction to this special song that it got you both & you got IT!
Delores was an amazing woman with a talent that really only comes to those that are broken inside. & that keening you hear is absolutely intentional & heartfelt. Good to see others get the Cranberries.
My all time Favourite cranberries song I really don't know why more people dont react to it by they should Thank you fabulous reactionđ
That tone is an Irish thing called keening. Its a lemant. She has stylized it beautiful
I'm always blown away by Dolores' singing. One of the songs that really surprised me was Daffodil Lament, I don't know why but it's one of my personal favorites.
Nostalgia, admiration and great sadness I feel when I listen to this song.
A similar style would be Natalie Merchant and her band 10,000 Maniacs.
Yes. They should start some Natalie Merchant.
Na, not even close. Delores was only one of a kind of a voice
Best comment of the day
She sang live in Italy with Pavarotti - I know Brad would love that but âWhen your goneâ would have him melting awayđ
Even though I grew up in the 90's listening to the Cranberries, these lyrics have a different meaning now.
I remember hearing this in 1995 on the radio when I got into college... man! 26 years ago!đȘ I still find it hard to believe that Dolores O'Riordan is no longer w/ us... R.I.P.
Man..she just wipes the floor with that voice.
â„ her voice!
Was waiting for this one:)
Ode to my family and ridiculous thoughts are my favorite songs off the âno need to argueâ album.
Great album.
First Cd I bought when I was a teenager. She sang my feelings for me at happy, sad, hard timesđ§Ą
This is the first song on the classic No Need to Argue' album, I've said it before, the 1st two Crans albums, are flawless, Brad would freak if he heard 21, her voice , OMG. I would love to see that đ
Her voice is thick with an Irish accent. It's a beautiful sound.
There are some songs that are worth watching the video for. this is one of them.
Ode to my family is my favorite song from The Cranberries. It is so deep and vulnerable and soft and haunting.
There will never be another Dolores.
I love this song, love this band, love her voice
I love watching Brad completely absorb and enjoy her beautiful voice. đ€
I so love this song. Makes me miss my sisters when we were kids.
Next try âFree To Decide.â Nobody ever seems to react to that one, but that song was one of the first steps I took to save my life and my sanity.
& Brad ; you're so smitten ,as you should be; Delores was , as in her music, original & beautiful.
Thank you for another great Cranberries reaction! To me Dolores was a once in a lifetime performer and a very kind and caring human being. She was also very funny and had a great stage presence. The Cranberries and Dolores O'Riordan have such a great catalog of music. I love all of their songs. I hope to hear more Cranberries reactions đ â€
