  • The G3... I mean CETME, no wait HK 91, PTR 91?
Either way, how can a design from the 1950s still be... The ULTIMATE Battle Rifle?
    Accuracy
During this PTR91's break-in period, we achieved impressive 1 MOA groups using standard ball ammunition; however, the rifle would malfunction regularly. Once broken in (completely reliable), it consistently printed groups ranging from 1.75 to 2 MOA. We have been unable to replicate our initial 1 MOA groups. We consider the PTR91 a 1.75 to 2 MOA rifle using standard ball ammunition... which is still impressive.

as someone who served with this beast for 18 months and is intimately familiar with it, let me say this vid was excellent and spot on. This rifle is made to last through the whole war without a tuneup. I wish the manual of arms was more modern and it had a lighter bolt, and a MUCH better trigger, otherwise it could be close to perfect rifle. Trigger is the weakest point. You lose so much capability of this cartrige and platform from the trigger. I never had a prob with the recoil unless F/A while standing. Prone F/A is no prob. Well made vid with a great intro and good editing. Subbed!

I've had a PTR-91 for 3 or 4 years, never had a malfunction ever (knock on wood) after hundreds of rounds of all kinds, steel case, 308 and M80 ball. I have the original wood furniture from the 60s, O.D. green furniture with the slim hand guard and the bigger handguard with bipod, original claw mount with 1913 rail adaptor, buttstock riser and about 20 H&K surplus mags. I love this rifle.

When I served in the German Bundeswehr we had just switched to the G36 as our standard rifle, but kept using the G3 in a DMR role. Mine was basically a G3A3ZF with some more upgrades. I had an adjustable stock and a bipod. Scopemount and scope were the classic ZF kind (clamp, 4x25 Hensoldt). Today they still use a way more modernized DMR version with rails, a variety of modern optics, better trigger group,... in a intermediate range sniper role.

Ex BW guy here, have been toting my G3 from August 1980 to 1988 , yes it was a heavy beast and dismounting out of any kind of vehicle was not to easy if you did'nt train it properly but shooting this gun under any condition , may it rain or burning sun from above, was always fun if you knew your stuff and it kicked like a mule but at 200m out it destroyed every human who hides behind a doubled up brickwall of 24cm thickness !! It just slammed right through the wall and goes wammo into everything that stood in the way. I,d loved it , and i still miss shooting the MG 3. Was a goddammned heavy bitch to carry but when you heard the sound of it you instictively knew, " it means business"!!!! Joking time is over!!! Had a great time with it , all in all it was a good utility rifle and if you cleaned it regularly it never lets you down. Regards to all who had the fun to tote and shoot this fine old lady! 🙂

This weapon was the official rifle for the National Guard during the civil war in my country. The echo of every shot carried the promise of destruction and death. This rifle does not simple kill, it mutilates. If it hits you in a limb, it mutilates the limb, If it hits you in the head, it decapitates you. If it hits you in the torso, you will see a little hole in the front where it penetrates and in the back a hole the size of a basketball. If someone is hiding behind a pole or a brick wall, with well aimed shots, you could shoot down the pole or the wall. Very powerful ammunition this gun uses and the gun itself very sturdy. You can kill a man by just hitting him with the buttstock. No wonder, to be a National Guard you had to be at least 5.11 tall. Very brute riffle.

Bought my "Classic GI" PTR-91 in 2021 " nib ". It has been basically 100% perfect from the box. Just over 1,000 rounds total.
Leaning onto the mag while on a bench caused a single misfeed, and a second was caused by the foreign ammo.
The sights are pretty nice also. Trigger not bad, just practice with a slow pull. Better than the stock trigger of my Imbel FAL.
Ergos? Not bad. Women in the armies of Portugal, Germany, Norway, Lithuania and Greece were able to deal with the charging--- but American men...??
A friend from Essen Germany tried the PTR and never complained about the cocking lever or the trigger. .....Europeans aren't as pampered as Amerikaner....I've been to Europe 31 times.

Well done! Great coverage on a classic battle rifle. The only other rifle that may be more accurate would be Switzerland’s Stgw.57 (also a roller delayed system). I own an actual Oberndorf HK 91 and the Stgw.57. I compared them. The Swiss rifle is quite a bit heavier and longer, makes the HK 91 look like a RedRyder BB gun. Try to see if you can find some in in your neck of the woods who can let you shoot their Stgw.57. I think you will be pleasntly surprised. Unfortunately, they are rare as hens teeth though.

Easily get a sub from me for doing such a good job splaining all of the G3 lore so well. I was really drunk and extra autistic one night and explained to someone how it has possibly the best ergos of all of the battle rifles around because of something i made up called Controls Per Inch which was my drunken way of saying that the controls are spread out perfectly on a G3 so you will never accidentally do something that you do not intend to do.

Thank you for giving it a name, as that's exactly why I told my friend I'd never use a BAD lever style bolt release on my AR.

The G3 has a bipod that attaches to the front of the receiver for the slim hand guard. Some of the slap depends on the locking piece gap, which increases with wear. The narrower the gap, the slower that bolt unlocks and slower reduces the amount of slap felt.

Excellent video. I’ve owned my Century Arms C308-HK91 since 2015 and never had one problem. Love that rifle. Waiting on your next video on it!

It would be nice if PTR industries make those with chronelibed CHF 4150CMT barrels.

They have pretty good barrels now but for the price I definitely want to chrome lining

@@raptorman6589their barrels are unlined parkerized not even nitride. Pretty shit decision and one of the biggest reasons why I haven't bought one

When I was considering purchasing a FAL or a PTR I did my research and the roller blowback, and that the PTR eats any 308 ammo you feed it, sold me in the end. No regrets. The iron sights are deadly accurate, but would recommend getting the PTR 109 rifle as it comes with the Picatinny rail.

I had the select fire G3 (AG3) in the Norwegian Army in 91/92. I've had a few CETME's etc, the PTR91 are nicely built.
