So when he teleported, he basically threw am item that puts him where it lands. He threw it way into the sky and jumped over the side so he'd teleport safely bad on solid ground.
Also the start chest is a thing normally included in this challenge to provide a few items that aren't normally available in the sky, like lava. Regular chests are easy to craft.

okay but how the fuck did you get " its raining pigs. " when he had been talking about foxes for minutes . like " I thought it was the wolves that spawned the emeralds not the pigs." ??????? he was talking about it being foxes, about making a fox farm and all that stuff. how short is your attention span? or did you like take hour long breaks between every minute of video? @@ChicagoReacts

lol yeah you don't seem to be paying attention sometimes. You call them pigs, then you correct yourself and say wolves, when he just went over in detail that they were foxes.

6:08 bonemeal is used to make crops and trees grow instantly, otherwise you'd have to wait and place the crops (not the trees!) Next to water.
7:05 the trapdoors he places on the bridge avoid the mobs following him from the spawn platform, and killing him while he is doing something else.
9:47 enderpearls are items dropped by the endermen mob when you kill it, the enderpearl can be trown by the player, and then it will fly following a certain trajectory, in the mean time the player can do whatever (jump off the platform and place blocks for example). When the enderpearl eventually lands (or hits a block) the player is instantly teleported in that exact location, (in this case saving him from a fatal jump in to the void).
14:25 no rain dancing is not a Minecraft meccanic, he is Just making irony out of the fact he had to wait an incredibly long time for the game to start raining.
17:43 in this case he is in a modified world where everithing has been deleted exept for his starting island and the end portal. When he says the biome is ocean it means that the original world in that point had an ocean, but since everithing has been nuked out of existence it looks like it's the sky, but the game still thinks it's an ocean (because it's a pre determined factor when a new world gets created) so it doesen't spawn animals (land animals have different biomes they can and can't spawn to add diversity to the game {see foxes later in the video})
20:08 when it rains cauldrons have a random chance to fill up a level at the time, but for him to get 1 full water block he needs a completely full cauldron(and empties it with a buchet), you can also remove/add 1level at the time using glass bottles (empty/full).
35:11 the "official" end objective of the game is to defeat the ender dragon, but the player is left ample space to set it's own personal goals.

obligatory "you may not understand the video if you dont play minecraft" list:
-a portal didnt send him here, its just a fun narrative to segue into a new video. it's a completely different world, most likely recorded after he already killed the dragon in the world with his friends
-the sun burns mobs like zombies and skeletons during daytime. there are some exceptions but theyre not important
-things grow far faster in minecraft than in the real world. for example, it takes roughly five minutes for a tree to grow in minecraft
    -your character does not age
-the end portal, how you get to the end to kill the dragon, spawns somewhere in the world as soon as its loaded, its not something you make
-the trapdoors he placed are so mobs cant reach him and kill him on his main island. they think they can walk over those blocks, but they cant, so they just fall into the void and die
-when he fell and placed blocks, he threw something called an ender pearl. they teleport the player to wherever it lands, so after he fell, he teleported back onto his island
-minecraft isnt as difficult as it is in this video. martin is doing something so insanely difficult its genuinely impossible without mods. the fun of minecraft is that you can do basically whatever you want and nobody will say youre playing incorrectly
-rain dancing isnt a thing in minecraft, its just something he did to pass the time until it rained
-when you sleep during a thunderstorm, or during night, it changes the weather to clear, and he forgot this
-endermen (the tall slender creatures) tend to pick up blocks and carry them around, and if you kill them whilst theyre holding a block, they will drop it. this was the only real way martin could obtain a grass block, as without an enchantment called "silk touch", breaking a grass block will give you dirt
-the only animals that spawn in oceans are sea creatures, like squids and dolphins (among other unimportant creatures). even if he did want to spawn these, he would need water
-skyblock isnt technically in the sky. it's quite difficult to quickly explain, but to be more accurate, its in a normal world, except the rest of the world has been deleted. biomes are different areas of a normal world, like deserts, jungles, etc. biomes aren't limited vertically, so if youre in a desert biome but build millions of blocks up, youll still be in the desert. when a world loads, the biomes are first. they decide what blocks go where. so, when the ocean biome was placed, since it's a skyblock world, no water was placed in the ocean yet the biome still existed. pretty convoluted explanation but its very difficult to explain
-this absolutely is not possible for someone who casually plays minecraft. ignoring the sheer willpower youd need to be so patient in order to do something so dumb, the amount of knowledge of the game youd need is pretty vast. i mean, you could also just google it which im sure he is doing, but that doesnt change how much prior knowledge you need to have
-cauldrons filling with water is PAINFULLY slow. it's not intended to be a primary source of water, since skyblock isn't the normal way to play the game. and even when people play skyblock, they give themselves some items to start, water included. martin starting with only a tree is unbelievably dumb yet entertaining
-im sure martin knows quite a lot about minecraft, but knowing extremely specific things like the percentage chance zombies drop iron is unlikely, he probably googled that among other things
-entirely unrelated to minecraft lol, but the guy who looked like xi jinping was zhong xina. ill let you figure out that one
-in case you missed it, he made a lightning rod out of copper. lightning rods cause lightning to strike them when there's a thunderstorm. this is normally used to prevent lightning from striking your base and burning it, but he used it to strike pigs. it's a well known fact in minecraft that if lightning strikes a pig, they will turn into a "zombified piglin". they drop gold when they die, which he needs for golden apples to cure zombie villagers to turn them into normal villagers
-martin builds the chests. the chests are made out of eight blocks of wooden planks, and each wooden log makes four planks. so, every two wood he breaks from a tree, he can make one chest. the "start chest" is what i referred to earlier when people give themselves items to begin a skyblock. they can vary in what they include, but they typically contain a bucket of water, a bucket of lava, some seeds, some food and some basic armour. he got rid of that and instead just gave himself one tree to work with. the chests he does make do not contain anything, theyre just a method of storing items. there *are* some naturally generating chests in minecraft with items in them, but he got rid of those too
-to be honest, im not too sure why the foxes didnt spawn the first time. i can assume that there is a hard limit to the amount of passive mobs (cows, chickens, pigs etc) that can be in a world at one time. again, no idea though
-foxes dont have a chance to drop emeralds, they have a chance to spawn with an emerald in their mouth, and then theyll drop it when theyre killed. playing with semantics, but you know if youll get an emerald or not before it dies
-what dropped the emeralds were foxes. when any mob (animal) takes damage, including the player, they flash red for a second
-the magic of minecraft is that there is no winning or losing, or more accurately, you can win or lose however you like. you can win by finding diamonds, going to the nether, killing the ender dragon, killing the wither, getting the strongest armour imaginable, making extravagant and time consuming structures and builds, its entirely up to you. you can do whatever you like. there is a story, and credits roll when the dragon is killed, but there is content after the dragon is killed, and most people dont stop playing when they kill the dragon
-the narrative for the video was "when i kill the dragon in skyblock, i go back to my friends and kill the dragon in that world". none of this really happened, thats not how minecraft works, but just to clear up the confusion of the two dragons
this was incredibly long, but i hope you understand the video and what he did a little more now

I tryed this challenge. Very time consuming
    Still fun
Edit: 1- enderperls let you teleport.
    2- raindance isnt real lol.
3- he makes the chests. Its not things that just spawn like mobs more line a structure so in this empty map no chest is going to spawn with loot.
4- you can do nearly whatever you want in this game.
5- he defeated the dragon in the skyblock world. And he did in the other world too.

By the way, the reason so much focus is put on the bed is due to the fact that they explode in the end (where you fight the ender dragon.) If you try to use them, the blast is around 2 times more powerful then the TNT they used in the first part of the series

This video is hard to understand if you’re not a Minecraft player, a lot of what hes doing here goes beyond casual playing, it’s the kind of gameplay you do to really challenge yourself by having to find every little exploit the game can offer you, which requires understanding the game not just as a player, but understanding the way in which the game is constructed so you can manipulate it to make these feats achievable.
I’ll list some answers here to help out with understanding it. I warn you though, this is long, it’s a commitment to read.
-to start, any info like drop rate percentages, glitches and stuff like that, are logged on a wiki by fans, this is the case for any game, people love to understand exactly how the game they like works, and it serves well in cases like this.
-not about the game but this situation in general, he’s not with his friends in this because it’s a separate world he created on his own time. I imagine what happened was after he died at the end of that video he didn’t want to start over yet again, so he just told them, “how bout I just respawn myself and we’ll finish the fight, and then I’ll do another challenge video solo to do like a “I earned this respawn” bit, just so we don’t have to do this all over again.” Which I imagine they agreed to because they were probably tired of doing that challenge as well. So he set up a cool transition with the portal thing and did these videos.
-When he jumped off to place the blocks, he threw an item called an ender pearl before he jumped, it’s an item that teleports you to where it lands, so he threw it straight up so that it landed back on the platform and saved him from dying.
-raindancing is just a bit, rain is entirely random in Minecraft.
-the biome is still ocean in the open void because in order to handle its procedural generation, Minecraft sets out things called bounding boxes which Martin mentions a few times. These boxes tell the game what is allowed to generate there, from biomes to structures to animals and monsters. Even if you remove the world in a custom mode like this, the seed still generates bounding boxes by default, so this is another way to manipulate the game engine to do things like this.
-the cauldrons didn’t fill the first few times because Minecraft uses something called the “tick” system to calculate changes. Ticks occur a couple times every second, and, let’s focus on a crop like wheat seeds to explain this, every time a certain number of ticks occur, the crop has a chance to grow based on a set odd like 1 in 20. the game engine rolls a dice and if the odds are favorable, the crop will grow, so it can take longer or shorter for this to happen by random chance. Any blocks that change state, like cauldrons, operate the same way. they have a chance to fill with water during a rainstorm, depending on the tick system rolling the right odds. Martin just had unfavorable luck with the tick system.
-chests and other blocks are crafted by wood, which he gets from trees. Since trees are renewable by grabbing saplings from the leaves and letting them grow, anything you can build with wood, you can build as much as you want of since you can’t run out.
-with setting your own parameters, in the intended mode, it’s just progress to where you can reach the end and kill the dragon. However, Minecraft is a genre of game called “open world” and open world games like to let their players feel free to do as they please. They can progress the objective at their own rate, and get to it however they like. So most objectives can just be your own, like building a mansion house, setting up auto farms like Martin’s iron farm. Other avenues are completely optional but exist for the player to indulge if they want to.
