Imagine 1.4 billion people in China apply their collective minds and get creative in an environment conducive to support them. They actually have the foresight to planned their nation at least a decade before anyone is aware of. They are willing to learn too. In America, we are the best reactionary society. We’re constantly surprised by their achievements. They scared us to death. The only advantage we got left is war machines, nuclear missiles etc. What a contrasting world. Excellent video. Thank you Doc. It’s very informative to me.

Chinese government provides helps to the small and medium companies not big corporations. The US government only helps the big corporations in time of financial crisis.

I don’t understand why EU follow US so closely and yet Europeans are suffering from high energy cost thus leads to high cost of living and closure of many European companies thus lost of many jobs? The only answer I can think of are their corrupt politicians, so I hope ordinary European will wake up and demand change for the better through actions and real results and not empty talks. 🙏🙏✌️👏❤️

The problem with Africa is not lack of capital because it has enormous resources which can pay for development, so the problem with Africa is political corruptions, for example why are most of the oil rich nations are so poor economically? Nations like Nigeria, rich in oil but people are in extreme poverty, whereas Dubai also rich in oil but their people are wealthy and living above poverty, so the difference is good governance. Good luck Africa, clean up corruption and join BRICS to help your development to benefit your people a much better life. 🙏🙏👏✌️❤️

The unanswered question is: what will happen to those workers who used to work in factories producing low end products. Not all of them retrainable to work in sophisticated industries.

Probably need to go thru some upgrading process to get them slowly integrated into other industries like healthcare, food & beverage etc.

There are many other jobs -- such as delivery of goods, driving and other services requiring little skill.

Those who manage to upgrade their skills will hang on. Otherwise, the Chinese service sector is relatively small and consumption too. The government is encouraging this sector to grow and absorb a large part of the labour force.

That was my frustration as well. The interviewer tried twice to get that addressed but did not push sufficiently. I don't think the Prof avoided it deliberately though, he was just too focussed on the explaining the qualitative shifts in the economic trajectory. There was also the contradiction of the fact of the infrastructure deficit for developing countries being so massive and yet he used the saturation of Chinese infrastructure needs as part motivation for deemphasis of big infrastructure investing in Africa and other developing regions. That seems wrong....

Chinese people are very pragmatic and adaptable, perhaps more so than you know about them. As others here have already explained, not all jobs are factory or office based and many have turned to making money on the social media or other free lance work or return to their rural villages for other types of work brought on by China's recent rural revitalisation policy. Costs of living in China is still very low too unlike the West. The absence of homeless people sleeping on the street and beggars is evident enough that this temporary adjustment isn't as bad as some have imagined.

6:23 those voices were not rumors but warnings. At that time, if China govt could listen to the warnings and make certain corrections, it won't come to this collapsing point.
All he can say is just repeating the official view points from China Govt. He won't dare to say something else actually from bottom of his heart at all.

A Better Definition: Instead of using the terms Global South and Global North, I suggest using more accurate terms. Whipco and Pocco. These would more accurately describe the difference between the two. BTW, Whipco means White People Countries and, you might guess, Pocco means People of Color Countries.

Ultimately a nation must put the welfare n wellbeing of its peoples above that of the pure profit objective of private capitalist by
balancing it with that of state capitalism...
