U-Bahn Berlin - Dora trains on the U55

  • A look back to the actually historical Dora trains (partially from 1956) in service on Berlin's shortest underground line U55. The U55 is currently out of service due to preparation works for the connection to the U5.
Due to the lack of trains, three trains of the D/DL stock were reactivated and modernized to be put into regular passenger service. The trains previously in service on the U55 were then used to support the remaining network. Unfortunately though, the Dora trains weren't as stable, which let the last F79 train, that was left in the tunnel, be in service most of the time. One of the three Doras (DL train 2246) wasn't even in service at all, except for very few rounds that nobody really saw.
The Doras are currently parked at Friedrichsfelde depot, and will not be put in service on other lines while the U55 is out of service.
This video shows some impressions of D57 train 2000 in service on the U55.

It's no real "separate" line. The complete line (U5) is much longer. The U5 is beeing extended from Alexanderplatz to Hauptbahnhof and this is the final part of it which had to be opened due to political reasons. If Berlin wouldn't have run it, they had to pay back subsidies.
But it's part of the U5. It just got it's own number to avoid confusions.

Bei der U55 gab es immer nur die weibliche Anfertigungsstimme.

Da kommen Kindheitserinnerungen hoch wenn ich so eine Dora sehe. :) ... Schade, das man die Zugzielanzeige digitalisiert hat.
