A sailors trick for you, You should hang your fruit in a small free swinging hammock, too much road bounce will cause it to bruise and ripen too quickly. The hammock will cancel out the road bounce.

Hi ahle. There was something we did while I was in the Marines to cool water in really hot places where we didn't have ice . We just took the warm or hot water we had, put it in a plain plastic water bottle , soak a preferably clean cotton sock 😂 stick the bottle in it and hang it out in the sun. Keep it wet for about 10 to 15 minutes then let it dry a bit. By the time it's 90% dry the water will be pleasantly chill. We did this in the 115-120° heat . Try that !

You can buy a cooler and buy two or one bag of dry ice, and then buy regular ice!!! This literally lasted me 4 days and my food stayed frozen during my Coachella weekend trip. It was awesome. If I lived in a van I would definitely use that as a fridge

we've been traveling for 3 years in a sports car and tents... no fridge, but absolutely a propane stove! Even before we started using the propane stove we used a rocket stove we made and all of that works well for cooking food. You can eat very healthy foods without a stove, microwave, toaster: fresh fruits, tomatoes, radishes, cucumbers, rye crips like WASA with Jam (needs no refrigeration), freshly sliced lunch meats from the supermarket deli counter, noodle salads, cheeses sliced to order, two slices you eat at once in your car...the list goes on.

I tried to do jam without refrigeration, but skipping one day using it, it started to mold. Yes it was the normal sugar amount, not reduced. I even kept the jar floating(or sunk) in water, as that was the most stable lowest temperature possible, otherwise a high of 32C inside.

I live in a 32 foot long camper trailer full time and have all full sized amenities but my microwave is blown and needs to be fixed and you’d be surprised at how easy it is to get used to boiling water for meals and using a toaster oven or stovetop to cook meals. I also don’t have hot water and have become accustomed to boiling water in my kettle for washing dishes or myself or whatever. It’s kinda old timey feeling and I love it.

I use a sterno stove for basic cooking. You can use it in the vehicle without having to worry about a lot of carbon monoxide like a camp stove, and a 2-can pack lasts me a few months. It works good for heating stuff up like soup, chili or other canned items, as well as some "tv dinners" as long as you thaw it a bit and wrap it in foil. I also pop popcorn in olive oil with it. Most canned goods can be heated in the can, so no need for cookware. Doesn't work well for steak, or anything that needs to be browned, though. I find the biggest issues I have are that I cannot have have any perishable leftovers without a refrigerator, and it's hard to buy the correct portions of things. Sometimes I just look at something I want, but the portion is so big, there is no way I can (or would want to) eat it all in one sitting. That gets frustrating. As far as produce, there is the issue of being able to properly wash it. You can go through a lot of water quickly, and storing a ton of water is a pain for me. Peelable veggies and fruit are easiest. I eat a lot of hummus, avocado, cereal, canned soup, chili, bananas, oranges, nuts, non-refrigerated Hormel dinners, and I usually buy a half gallon of milk and finish it everyday. You can also get custom portion sizes of deli items, and I have literally bought like two slices of meat and cheese for a sandwich or snack. They look at you funny, but oh well. It has been a struggle to adapt because before, I typically cooked everything from scratch and even baked my own bread. My favorite peppers are green. Cheers!

Learn how to forage. Start with easy and common plants like dandelions, nerstertium, wild mustard, lambs quarters, Shepards purse, black berries, etc. You can have a free salad every day since there are so many tasty and edible species of plants. A little oil and vinegar, lemon juice and salt and pepper can last all monrh and the veggies are free. Be safe when you forage and follow these rules: 1. Make sure you have a 100% positive identification on a plant before eating it. (The plants listed above are easy to id.) 2. Don't harvest near busy roads, polluted areas, areas sprayed with chemicals, etc. 3. Try plants in very small amounts before eating a new plant for the first time. This will reduce the risk of accidental poisoning, allergic reactions, etc.. 4. Be aware of the plants around the ones you are harvesting. This can help you find specific plants as well as helping to avoid harvesting near by plants that may be poisonous. I recommend learning the most common poisonous plants for your area. 5. Be aware of ecosystems and plant propagation and avoid over harvesting. 6. Wash your plants before eating.
In addition to this fishing can be a great source of food and a good way to spend time and enjoy nature.
Also regarding hot water it is easy to use solar energy to heat water at least during warmer months. The simplest way is to place a mirror face up on the dash of your vehicle and put a clear plastic bottle on top of it then let the windshield glass and the sun do its work. I'm sure Google and CZcams can provide many more ways to use the sun to heat water. Some are very simple. Some are more complex and involved. Either way hot water = hot oatmeal. :)
As a fellow traveler and minimalist I admire the fact you are living the way you are. Good luck and best wishes. ❤

A typical daily meal for me while living in my car might include a croissant for breakfast, garlic naan bread for lunch (you can even make and prepare your own dips for these), and mini quiches for dinner. You will also be surprised that certain cold products can be kept fresh if you keep them in a cooler pack as long as you are prepared to either eat or drink them at room temperature. These can include cheeses, dips, and espresso iced coffees. Smoked meats are another good item because the meat is already pre-cooked and the packaging is usually vacuum sealed. I eat things that can just be eaten by hand and that don't need to be cooked.

I don't know what it's like everywhere else but here in SC the green peppers are very cheap like 69 cents each but colored peppers are usually $2.00 more each. Seriously. I like red the best because they're very sweet. Sweeter than the other colors. But they run almost $3.00 each.

Pretty general at all stores except Aldi's where you can get a 3-pack of 1 green, 1 orange and 1 red for $2.99 which is a deal but then I feel I have to eat them fast. Sometimes if I buy that 3 pack by the time I get around to the last pepper (green) it's getting soggy. Do bell peppers freeze well?

Love how u keep it real and shared the way the day ”really” went.
Thank u for telling us to go ahead and ”get the stove”
It was so awesome how u volunteered and u were rewarded ❤️
When I was in college I loved Wednesday's because the campus Baptist Student Union had a 30 min speaker at noon and different local churches brought in a meal for whoever showed up. Usually a couple hundred students would show up.
The different churches usually served spaghetti 🍝 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
And garlic bread and ooooooh my the homemade deserts wow!!!
Happy happy food yummy 😋 memories.
By the way ”anyone” can pop into those meals🤗 So if u live in a campus town. Check them out!!!🏆

I currently use a 5 cup rice cooker in my house, at work and in my stealth camping van. It uses a mere 250 watts of power and the recipe options are quite numerous. A small inverter will run it, I've actually been driving and cooking dinner at the same time...

I'm in that situation now. Currently in a pick up truck, considering an upgrade to a van in a while. I have a small fridge-like cooler that plugs into the cigarette lighter. It's good on trips when the engine is running, but if I leave it plugged in when parked it kills the battery in just a couple hours.
Thanks for the tips. I need to eat well until I can upgrade to a van outfitted with a deep cycle battery to run the fridge. 👍
