    For those of you guys that are down, broke and starving.... Go to 7-11 after midnight as there's a good chance they have "expired at midnight" sandwiches. We have to dispose of them as we can't sell them. Although my employees are not supposed give things away the majority of expired foods end up being given away to kids that come in or homeless.

    I totally don't mean this as a jab at you, but for people in this situation where they are not getting paid, don't sit there and be nice about this. This isn't about being polite. It's illegal for a company to withhold your check. You can take legal action for that! Contact human resources or the owner if there is no HR.
    I'm only saying this because I know some young people watch this video and I don't want them to think that they're being rude if they do this. This isn't about being cordial or nice to the company. This is just unacceptable behavior by them.

      I worked for a place that ended up going through some struggles and i didn't get paid for a month, so I quit. I filed unemployment, but when they called me for the interview and found out that I quit, they said that I couldn't collect any unemployment.
      But as soon as I explained that I hadn't gotten paid in a month, they immediately jumped on a 3 way call with my ex employer and asked if it was true. As soon as they said yes, they told them they had 1 week to pay me my back pay, or they were pursuing legal action. And I was immediately accepted for unemployment.
      About 5 days later I got a call to come pick up my back pay, and the owner wrote me a personal check for what I was owed, mad AF while he did it.. So there def are legal options for that scenario..

    • @keithjohnson5398
      @keithjohnson5398 Před 6 lety +5

      Yep, took my employer to the labor board (a school) for non-payment for work I did and it was easy to do. But you'll want to do it before you're totally out of money. You file online, they'll call or write to let you and your employer that there will be a hearing at their office. So its like a warning to let your employer know you've filed and it might be a wake up call for them to pay you in order to avoid the hearing. We had the employer and I showed them the paper work that showed work I did unpaid. And they informed my employer to pay me now or there would be a court hearing and they'd lose and it would cost them more.

(My two roommates decided to move out without telling me, and I ended up paying the full rent.) It was very eye opening and I ended up just eating bread too. Lol The situation definitely made me view money differently. One thing I did after graduating was continued to live like a poor college student even as I built up my career. I was able to pay off all my debts and buy a house. It's really hard but as long as you see things in a positive light you can make it happen.

    Good video. Money comes and goes. I have had periods of being broke, and homeless, but, for some reason, it has never bothered me. I have always worked, one way or another, and yes, there were plenty of times when the income was just not enough. It never frightened or bothered me. I have to say, if someone held up my pay for two months, I would have already had them in court for a month, but we are different people. One time, many years ago, I was in the subway in Boston. It was winter, and the buskers were working the underground. On that day, there was just one girl, playing her guitar and singing, and she was great. I stopped and listened, then dug all my money out of my pocket. I had about a dollar in loose change, and that was all. No bills, no bank accounts, no credit - just that small bit of change. I put it in her guitar case and apologized for not having more. Some years later I saw her face on an album and recognized her. It was Tracy Chapman. When I think back to those times, I never think about being broke - I only think about meeting Tracy Chapman.

    Ahle, I'm so proud of you and grateful that you shared this story. I can tell it wasn't easy. I can feel that sadness and frustration in your voice as you speak about this and I know that it took a lot for you to put this out here. You absolutely made the best of that situation and although you were young and "didn't know what you were doing", you owned that experience not only in how you handled it by how you chose to feel about it during, and what you're now taking away from it, not to mention that you're inspiring hundreds of other humans by sharing this. I feel like now I have so much control in knowing how you handled this and feel like I have so much power. I just wanted to say thank you for sharing. You inspire me more than you know. And one day I could see you delivering Ted talks and having some super successful low key business doing what you enjoy. You're amazing. Keep being you girl. I'll keep watching.

    You are a rare and beautiful flower. It's almost unbelievable.
    I might be mistaken but from what I can see in a few of your videos that I've watched, you are a pretty and young girl with an incredibly mature and positive mindset.
    When I try to think about how it would have been possible that someone in your shoes and life experience could have the qualities that you seem to have, which pretty much directly equates to a real-life "diamond in the rough" type of trope, I can only assume that it's your innate intelligence combined with some crucial mental foundations given to you in your very early years of life, and an environment that followed where you basically had to sink or swim.
    If I ever have a daughter, I wish that she would grow up to be as beautiful, intelligent, and mature as you are. You are the type of person who goes on to become a self-made millionaire, if that's where your interests are. Good job keeping it all together through tough times and having the best mindset and attitude you could have, while not falling into the numerous dark underground pits that people in those situations could have easily fallen into. And most of all, good job taking full responsibility for yourself, your life and your surroundings, at such a young age, without blaming the outside world such as your family, society, or country. So many in your age, who have been given much more than you in life, like to complain about and blame everything surrounding them, and end up sabotaging their own potential to overcome and grow. Your fundamental difference with them is what gives me confidence that you will most certainly be successful at whatever it is you want to achieve in life.

    Just randomly saw the title of your video and decided to check it out. I must say you are very open and seem very genuine. I think you have accomplished what most people don't even have to encounter in a lifetime. You also made it through situations where up to 90% of people would have caved in in some way. Maybe started doing drugs, drinking, prostitution or maybe all. Some would even committed suicide. You definitely are a survivor and have survival skills. I think most people will take something positive away from your story. Of course there will always be some idiot who will shoot you down or have all the answers of what they would have done but that's life. Anyways Just wondering , how has your life changed at this point? I mean Are you still continuing school and is there something you're definitely interested in as a career? I know you will do well at whatever you do because you have a strong flame inside you. I can see you becoming a leader of some sort. You are not a follower by any means. I mean you are probably too nice sometimes for your own good and humble. There's absolutely nothing wrong with having those traits but please don't be a doormat for anyone. Respect is earned, trust is gained. Not by fear but by virtue. I wish you well in your journeys! Don't stop being beautiful inside and out. It's a rarity these days and god knows we need more people out there with integrity. Take Care :)

      That's better than most people, especially when they're still in school. I think 2 month of savings is still way too low though, it's probably recommended by people because no one can save anyway, so it's better than nothing. I go with 5 months, because I was out of work for 5 months in 2008 after the crash.
