"The real buster sword"
yeah I was thinking that the blade looks way thinner and probably has a distal taper, as well as the huge chunky handguard pushing the COM closer to the hilt. Ideally in a sword you want the COM to be right on the line between the guard and the blade (or cuff if present) because that's where it needs to rotate to be most effective in an actual fight.

Excellent video. As someone who does fencing and just likes swords and HEMA. The reasons swords have pommels in the first place is to more the center of gravity closer to the wielder's hand. When people buy HEMA weapons, it even specifies how many cm away from the hands the cg is. The fact that your big sword doesn't have a big old pommel definitely a big reason you had trouble.
This makes me so happy to be honest. Human ingenuity in several facets. Historical (livestock farming) weaponry becomes a fantasy weapon because of artists, strongmen building their bodies to carry/wield heavy loads, and the power of the human mind to convert mechanical tools for camera work, into something that can allow one, who isn't built like a tank, to wield heavy loads. Humanity, when done right...is just amazing.
Allen: *This is heavy even with a exoskeleton*
Buff Guy: *That's because it is a one handed sword*...

Bro, I like how the concept was "look, even a professional strong man has trouble lifting this sword", and he just lifts it like it's nothing. This dude is unreal
To be fair one sword was 100 pounds of metal on a stick and this one was half that weight
The one the strongman was more than twice the weight.
@@alondor8157 If we gave the sword an exoskeleton, could it wield a strongman?
Its probably because he works out grip strength, if you workout grip you have way more power in other muscles you've never even used daily and allows you to carry oddly shaped things easier so weight distribution issues arent really a problem you just power through the torque and get to the point where the weight becomes even again when it goes vertical. Like has no one ever used a 18-25 pound sledge hammer?
there's also the fact that allen's sword is a lot lighter than the other one
The fact that Chase Lee managed to lift that thing for reps is by far the most impressive part of the whole video.
I always thought it would be cool if someone made a really heavy sword the was double sided because the counter weight would restrict some movements but make it manageable to swing, and if the user got good then it would just shatter other weapons and shields.
Basically how Guts was so deadly (besides the other things)

Guts’ dragon slayer is 400 pounds which means it’s actually around 2-3000 pounds when he wields it. Explains how the demon basically explode when he hits them directly with it
I'm pretty sure that's ballpark of how much a male gorilla could bench press if it were taught how. Take it with a grain of salt but I saw it somewhere, like 4k
That thing was too big to be called a sword. Massive, thick, heavy, and far too rough. Indeed, it was a heap of raw iron.
I like to think dragon slayer's weight is up for interpretation. If the sword in this video is 50lbs you could imagine a realistic slimmer dragon slayer that weights around 70lbs and still has some of this weight distributed in the handle, keeping it from torque twisting the wielder's wrist apart
Now I wanna see someone make a replica of the Berserker Armor that also functions as an exoskeleton
He also swings it sideways and with one hand on occasion

he could literally make a holster in the center of gravity of the sword
the fact that he turned himself into a real life ironman just to hold a big sword is dedication few people have
I’ve always thought it would be a cool concept to have some sort of exosuit set up with magnetic feet. Then only have the soldiers run around on like a battleship or something. Then the magnetic feet could counter act the shift in center of gravity. Idk if the physics would work out though.
I love that there was all this science explaining why lifting the sword was almost impossible, then Chase Lee comes in and just blows all that away with sheer strength.
No one said almost impossible, only that it generated significantly more force in torque than the weight alone would lead you to believe.
Realistically it's just like saying "This 150 pound weight is heavy for me, not so much for this dude who regularly lifts heavy things for a living"
This is basically why elite level gymnasts are the top athletes in my opinion, they make advanced body levers look insanely easy, yet that type of training is insanely difficult. Guys who can perform an iron cross have insane straight arm strength, but most guys neglect straight arm strength training because it doesn't exactly lead to big muscle aesthetics. I would love to see if a pro gymnast could potentially wield it even better, but Chase was really impressive.
@@HerroVincey No way. The sword would probably wield the gymnast. Not enough mass, they'd just tip over.
@@HerroVincey Not downplaying gymnasts at all as they probably have the most *pound for pound* strength out of most athletes.
However, as the guy above me said, another factor that makes wielding the buster sword so damn hard is that it weighs a good percentage chunk of the average person and said weight is also awkwardly placed. Someone less athletic, but still reasonably fit, say 7' feet and 250lbs, would likely wield the sword much easier than a world class gymnast who is 5'9" and a solid 165lb of muscle, due to the pure mechanical advantage the taller heavier person will have in this instance.

Maybe adding some heavy weight on the end of handle, and reshape the blade to make it thinner at the far end but thicker the near end, can balance the torque and make it more particle to wield while maintaining the weight of the giant sword.
Just a small guess.
if you had a sword with a free weight that could slide the length of the weapon, that might help. when the blade is upright, the center of gravity would be near the hilt making movement easier. when you swing it, the weight would shift to the tip of the blade giving the blow much more power.
if you add some mechanical assistance to shift the weight to the hilt when pressing a button that would make lifting the sword for follow up strikes easy(er) as well.

@@chuckdoom7665 I believe it was not viewable on netflix in the U.S. or on other streaming sites, it could also be possible that it was unavailable in us after you bought it or maybe it's only available in disc form?
But wait I watched it on tv the other day
Didn't they change the name to Live. Die. Repeat at some point? Maybe he's just looking for the wrong thing 🤣
holding space speeds up the video to 2x speed until you let go. Might be a feature in the future, right now it is premium only, but I like it and hope it gets released.
One of the biggest issues right off the bat I see with the buster sword is that the hilt is way too short. You get practically no leverage. Ultra great swords have to be wielded sort of like a pole arm In regards to leverage. Another 6 inches on the hilt would probably make it much more wieldy
Allen Pan is making everyone's quarantine better rn
Yooooooolooooo
Hang in there fam!
agreed
@@allenpan omg u replied
That's failed mythbuster allen pan to you pal
That strong dude was having the time of his life smashing things with the sword. I'm so jealous lmao.
What a sport
i wonder if you put high speed spinning weights in the handle if you could improve how hard it is to lift one of these sword, like if you take that weight and the bolt that was offset and hard to lift and added a large spinning wheel to one side of the bolt the weight would be like lifting from the center again ...
big thing to watch out for with an exosuit is unless the suit is entirely load baring from the ground all the way to the object you are carrying it will crush any part of you taking that heavy load. like if you are using an exosuit to lift 1000 pounds but its being lifted just by your own hands you're gonna have a bad time.
Why does Allen actually look like a cool anime protagonist when he's holding the sword with his science lab equipment?
It’s like Tenya iida (the leader from my hero academia) who is also a geek
because He is XD
He looks like someone tried to make an overwatch character
Knowledge is power.
Ei em medd scientist.
IS SO KUL...

This video made me appreciate Monster Hunter even more. Because the way your character picks up the large sword, he does the same motion and he walks around like he is trying to control it. They really did research.
True, seeing the guy lifting up in 3:03 seems very similar to how its used in Monster Hunter, the sword in MH is thicker and bigger, but everyone on that universe is super strong and the monster materials might be lighter than steel, for example the bone line of swords
DB user here, I dont know much about the movement of the GS but for what I saw I believe its close to real life
I had the exact same thought when he said it was throwing off his center of mass and he had to step forward with one leg when slicing down
Yeah but if he just put it on his back he'd be fine to run around like normal and roll around :D
@@screwlose Objects are heavier when held in your hands than when worn on your back
@@screwlose Yeah, the strength of your arms will never compare to the combined strength of your back and your legs.
Might be good to do it with a heavier weight in the handle and an oval shaped grip to help with edge alignment
