I always thought the jailer should have had dialogue like cytorrak from marvel when he’s talking to the player “You come in your weak flesh to a place where annihilation is prayer. If you are pilgrims, destruction shall be your offering. If you are heretics, it will be your penance.”
This is ten times better than the current shadowlands lore.
Holy shit. This is so fucking good it is insane. God why couldn't Blizzard just touch upon any of these additions!? Shadowlands could have been so fucking cool!
3:00 this description for Domination, the rewrite. Isn't that basically what it was during Wrath?
At least that's what I got from Arthas & Bolvar. Arthas talks about trying to break Bolvar, that he was more difficult than others, hence why Bolvar was not turned like how Saurfang's son was. His will was stronger than Arthas expected so it was taking more time.
one issue in this rewrite is the timeline: frostmourne and the helm of domination were responsible for the masses of undead on azeroth and later the creation of the forsaken, so if the forsaken were the ones that freed the jailer from domination that means they were created before frostmourne and the helm of domination, because the jailer crafted those artifacts by taking memories from the primus. so the jailer needs to break off domination before warcraft 3 events or need to rewrite lore on origins of the lich king
The first thing I would do in a shadowlands rewrite is make a cinematic of Sylvannas's third death (In cataclysm during the silverpine forest campaign) and have it where the jailer first shows up and sets a deal with Sylvannus. Then at the end of the cinematic, it shows Vul'jin's dieing words.

So many things about thr actually Shadowlands don't make sense. Like I really wished at this point Sylvanas died (even though I am a loyalist) and Maiev got the Nightwarrior power and doing badshit crazy because Tyrande felt a bit out of nowhere
Imagine getting a first job, no experience. The boss is horrible, unethical and all about achieving their goals at any cost. You're impressed. You get a few decent orders to execute. You carry out the orders well. As you get better you are pushed to your limits with tougher duties and you ace them all.
You are getting powerful in your own right. And by this point you have already figured out that your boss is at a truly different league among the upper management, powerful and influential and that you might greatly benefit from being in their good books. And the boss knows that you've seen this.
Now, the orders begin turning darker and unethical. They involve directly or indirectly causing troubles for colleagues. You do them anyway, and convince yourself through various reasons like the ends justify the means, the people had it coming and they deserved it and so on. This continues. At times, you dream of being free of their control.
Then one day the boss orders you to embezzle funds and to ensure that anyone who stands in the way is fired. You "know" that this is crossing the point of no return. But at this point you are unable to refuse your boss. You've already lost yourself and you know nothing but to comply. You've completely submitted to your dominating boss and carry out any and all orders without question, despite all internal conflicts.
One day, the boss retires. You no longer report to them. You are "free". But you don't really feel free. Didn't you wish to be free? But somewhere within, you also know that the "benefits" were something that you wanted as well. And now you wonder... was it all your fault to begin with or was it the boss's?
Domination is quite real and surprisingly simple. It is order refined over time. The foundations of domination are cravings, aversions, fear and hatred. Those who are free of these foundations are the only ones who are truly free.
This is so good it’s painful.
That Arthas wisp cinematic gives me ptsd
I think Domination should be more sinister in that it is a matter of willpower, not power. That someone weaker could use it to dominate someone stronger, by wielding it to exploit someone's weakness to the point they bend to their willpower not by mind control, but by their own volition. And instead of presenting the Jailer as this buff guy, with loads of vitality, they should have presented him as a feeble old man. And only when he retrieved his core, would he THEN become an image of his prime self.
There should have been chapters and chapters of the jailer, we should have known who he was before he was imprisoned, we should have known his violation explicitly, his violation should not be so bad as to deserve his sentence, and even expose some cracks in the cosmos as we knew it. And as a finally our fight against him should be to use domination by restoring the Crown and utilizing it on the Jailer giving him redemption. All the while Sylvanas being the liaison for this side of the story. Showing us her intentions and motives along the way, culminating in her seizing her soul.

The game is teen rated, I doubt it could go much farther than it did...
I got about two thirds of the way through, but had to stop. Your editor has some interesting ideas, but there was a lot of things thay didn't sit well with me. A good attempt, but ultimately I'd prefer Shadowlands lore over this to be quite honest.
TO BE FAIR its not that hard to improve rock bottom
Some of this is better, some of this is worse. The only change I wholly hate is the Ardenweald portion. I know you and your mods love the idea of Nature/Life being antagonistic, but I do not and I don’t think the story supports it other than mild allusions. I don’t love Tyranda not being overcome with rage and hate and solely bring focused on revenge. It gives her a really great arc in shadowlands where she learns good lessons (and we learn that the powers of Elune can consume and destroy even the most fervent followers.)
It's not really just a rewrite if it's gonna change actual gameplay mechanics and shit that's a redesign. This is good, but presumptuous at times: like saying domination magic as currently constructed is bad. Nope its just simple and logical. Made for smooth brains. Domination magic in the rewrite is just more complex and logical. Requires an understanding of a character's backstory, which people find a problem already with the relevancy of wow lore AND the game itself of needing to know too much outside of what's on the screen and takes no digestion to understand. I'll be the one voice of reason here nbd. Especially if it doesn"t change the canon of what actually happened ,then its very literally Moot cause you still have the same transgressions of the story. Which never were transgressions WoW Players are just little babies and you can use Pyro's quitting WoW moment as an example. Waaah I disagree with what happened WAAAHHHHH Same reason people leave a +6 after One party wipe on the first boss of M+ Whiney shit pantsed babies.
Kicking the can down the road by declaring the Realm of Death not actually the realm of death but just a place in between doesn't resolve any issues, it just makes some people feel better about the insanely powerful idiots (the player characters) traveling to this specific metaphysical realm, when we've been visiting metaphysical realms representative of forces on this level since at least Cataclysm.
