- A John and Rachel set taped by the venue.
Eternal thanks to Gregor for the (physical) tape!
The audio drops out for a while during the 2nd song but is otherwise good.
That's the best water I ever tasted.

this makes me think of the one show where he says "i was born young and i will die young a hundred years from now". he has like...the same exact presence and energy today. all of his peers have aged and he has not.
This version of Alpha Double Negative is so chill inducing. What an underrated track, and I think it has some of my favorite harmonies with Rachel
HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!!! Pure gold! treasure! Soooo happy right now!!!!Hail Gregor indeed! JD looks like a baby here even though I think he was like 28 in '95. Insane. Looks like he's like 21
I don't understand how "No, I Can't" never became a crowd favorite / encore staple.
I think it was for a little while (on the wiki it's shown to have been played quite a few times) but John probably burnt out on it a little while after Rachel left.
Thomas Michael Duncan am I crazy or does the strumming pattern and some of the chords sound like Younger a little bit
@@matthillfromcollege4109 it's the same riff, I believe he talked about it in the I only listen to the Mountain Goats podcast.
Uploading this is doing God's work my friend
Look at that young John! All that earnestness is infectious.
Was always wondering if there were more videos from the '95 European adventure ever since I saw the Fast Forward II video! The fact that JD and Rachel took it all the way to the Netherlands at that stage of the Mountain Goats game always impressed me.
the cheekbones, though.
the veins on the neck, though
very handsome lad
And the hands though
This version of “Going to Georgia” ❤️.
"We haven't played together in a couple of days"
This is so cute and excellent and thank you so much
The first show he played out of college?
@@mitchelldoornenbal6560 I think he's still in his final year of college here (91-95), and had done some shows on the East Coast in late 94, but this would be in the first ever batch of European dates!
It's always real special to see video of shows from this far back! This one is of amazing quality!
Well hot dang, this is in my home town, didn't think he'd ever been here. If only I hadn't been 2 years old at the time.. Anyway, cheers for digging up another gem!
Holy shit. So glad this footage exists
Man, I really wish I could have been there. If I had a time machine, I think I would travel to this moment right here.
Jaw on the floor... thank you thank you!
Awesome! This around the time when I first started listening to them/him ,but didn’t get to see him/them until 2000. Thanks for the upload!
I mean I can't even believe how awesome this video is.
He started the recognition scene in such a soft voice it caught me off guard so much I nearly started crying
Edit: This version of No, I can't is intense and brilliant - for me it's the contrast of how forcefully he lists what he was brought and the quiet 'so thank you'.
Thank you for uploading this! Amazing.
so awesome. thank you.
Pure Love is so much better than anybody gives it credit for.
pull the skimask, away from your face
A BABY BOY
Pure love is so good wow!
Oh my GOD
If there's ever a biopic about John Darnielle then James Ransone should definitely play him.
Wow! Just blows me away! Thank you.
Awesome
i remember reading about this on the goatbook group, im glad you were able to upload the recording because its super cool!
this is one of the earliest recordings if im not mistaken right? this is a pretty remarkable discovery!
thanks! it's i think the earliest public video footage of tmg, considering this was a week or so before the fast forward festival
wish i was there.. or at least alive
hell yes
I absolutely love this era of the mountain goats
Now I have everything I need, YEAH!!
JD is only 27 in this video, wow
yessssss
his stare was so intense holy fuck
This happened exactly one month before I was born, not sure why I felt the need to share that
funny you say that, it was exactly one day before I was born
This happened nine years before I was born
Thanks
HELL YES BB
Fuck thank you so much for posting this
Oh my fucking God
Second greatest thing goatbook ever did
what is number 1
holy christ
Woah
Fuck me I'd love to have been there. But I would have been 8 years old
to keep the hOUNds at bay
36:50 me when i get everything i need
That’s the year I was born. Wack.
What ever happened to the girl?
rachel just wanted to do other stuff with her life i think! she might be a music teacher now? but don't quote me on that bc i don't remember where i know that from
notasfarwest thank you amazing video!
@@notasfarwest She definitely was a music teacher, under the name Rachel Ware Zooi, around the time this Reddit post went up - www.reddit.com/r/themountaingoats/comments/169wwx/bright_mountain_choir/ - the site it links to is down now and I think she's now a school counsellor.
Wow
if this isn't a great reason to record your favourite bands while they're still small
