He will never stop. In his ravenous hunger for recoil, he found no peace. Seeking atonement against the .50 cal that had wronged him, so even the 1 gauge shotgun with a pound lead slug did not satisfy him. And those that tasted the lead of his guns named him: Scott from Kentucky Ballistics.
As the BFG 10000 has the power of 10000 russian shotguns. The devs were kind of accurate.

As soon as I saw this on Garand Thumb, I knew it was literally a matter of time until our favorite recoil junkie got his hands on one.
This was my thought also but I’m glad Scott did the video. I would also love to know how to get my hands on one..not to mention shells for it. Would be a hell of a duck gun but I think everything you can hunt in my state with a shottie is limited to 10 gauge 😕
@@abelwalker4396 I’m getting the feeling there is no ammo for it. Didn’t Garand Thumb also have to have someone hand-make shells for it? I guess that counts as finding ammo, sort of. Looks really fun… and terrible all rolled into one.

The man is using the hunting shotgun/civilian market version.
Garand Thumb was using the military/Law Enforcement version with a shitty folding stock and fired it with and without the stock.
@Travis C seeing as how the military one takes solid brass shells, and the civilian one probably will too. it wouldn't be too difficult to have a good machinist turn 30-50 shells and then you find the correct load data and hand load those solid brass shells.
I own few old 12 gauge brass shells myself on my "ammo collection" shelf.

Версия для силовиков с коротким нарезным стволом(КС-23, КС-23М), а ТОЗ-123, Селезень-4 Селезень-1 это гражданские исполнения

I had no idea a 4 gauge shotgun even existed. Not really surprised the Russians developed it. Those shells are absolutely massive

There are also 3, 2, 1, 0, 00 & 000 gauge shotguns as well. The Russians did not invent the 4 gauge shotgun but was invented in England.

The KS-23 was designed in the 1970s for suppressing prison riots. It was created by TsNIITochMash, a key Soviet weapons developer, for the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD). The barrel for the KS-23 were made from 23 mm aircraft gun barrels that were rejected due to manufacturing flaws. These rejected barrels were deemed to be acceptable for the lower stress of firing slugs and less-lethal rounds, and thus were cut down in length for use as shotgun barrels. The KS-23 began to see use during the mid-1980s by several MVD forces. During the 1990s, research was made into improving the original design to make it usable in confined indoor areas. Two prototypes were proposed, the KS-23M and KS-23K,

I can’t imagine any small game, waterfowl, or turkeys, taken with that birdshot load would be edible! Or eligible for taxidermy.
How have I not seen this channel before? Living in Australia where our stupid government banned us from owning guns without having to jump through a thousand hoops, it’s great to see Scott having so much fun and remind me what I’m missing out on!

The slugs have so much energy they barely transferred any of it to the head target. That's terrifying.
Actually, Garand Thumb tested this shotgun and gave the velocity numbers. Turns out this 4 guage had LESS energy than a 12 guage. That's why Scott said the recoil was underwhelming.

I think he's had more impressive results hitting the exact same targets with a standard 1oz 12 gauge foster slug.
In the slug's defense, he did hollow out the noggin with buckshot first.
Scott, I am actually very curious as to the muzzle velocity of these "4-gauge" (really 6.27-gauge in our measurement standard) buck and slug loads, especially compared to a typical 12-gauge or your undeniably-spicy 10-gauge. I wonder if you'd consider putting something like that on your to-do list. : )
I have one, but I'm too sceered to shoot it. Hasn't been fired in about 150 years. 😬😬😬 plus, I only have one shell. 🤦🏼♂️
I was just about to mention that. Kind of odd that 4 gauge/6 gauge work like that but apparently 12 gauge is still 12 gauge...
3.5 inch 12 gauge Lichtfield sabot slug was more powerful then any KS-23 or BFG-1 or 10 gauge round. It was doing 4759 ft/lb. BFG-1 rounds are not loaded that hot.

I enjoy this channel because he doesn't take himself too seriously. In the gun community too many people always seem on edge and that's alienates new people.
I'm not convinced this approach wouldn't alienate new people.

Some time check out “punt guns”, they’re closer to a 1 or 2 gauge and were literally used for this sort of mass waterfowl elimination.

In this episode, Scott plays with a modern punt gun, makes a giant gummi bear do a backflip, and turns a Furby into individual molecules.
Seems to me like these would be about perfect for hunting drones. A weapon truly ahead of its time.

i want to know how bad the recoil really is or isn't
In US measurements, it's like 6.75 gauge or something. Only in European measurements (I presume metric based) is it a 4 gauge.
I have seen a 2 bore. But it was a muzzleloader.
First of all, note that it is Russian made. In the states anything larger than 10 guage is illegal for any kind of hunting. That's why most have never heard of it. They still make 8 guage ammo, but not the guns. That's because the ammo is used to "shock clean" things like kilns and boilers. From a logical standpoint, it was quite logical for the Russians to come up with a 4 guage shotgun because of all the 4 guage elephant guns that were made. No problem coming up with the needed engineering data because it had already been done. All that was needed was to bring everything forward into our current Era.
Regardless, I'm impressed anyway.

The best thing in this beast is that Barrikada 23mm shell according to soviet data, can pierce through engine block from 100 meters.

I first saw the KS-23 in a mod for STALKER Anomaly, I figured it was just some prototype gun that the mod author had heard about and thought was cool, I never expected to see one actually fired. That's super neat!
I wonder if the age of the rounds didn't gentle them somewhat. It seems like they were all a bit lackluster for being so hilariously oversized. Obviously Scott is a big dude, but I would have expected him to have a bit more of a reaction when firing this thing, I feel like the 10 gauge was more potent at least in the recoil department.
KS-23 itself actually served for a long while as a weapon for SWAT teams and prison guards. It didn't really have straight up buckshot, but accepted several types of rubber slugs, a flashbang slug and several tear gas shells. It's only "lethal" round was a steel slug, but that one was meant fir taking out car engines instead of people. The thing used in the video is "Selezen-4", a civilian version of the KS-23 with a proper stock and elongated barrel
Very underwhelming from what it was supposed to be capable. Age of the shells was the first thought, would definitely be interesting to see some new shells for it.
Could also be a low powder load compared to the amount of lead its sending down range. It takes a lot to move 3oz of lead and it might not have enough to really send it.

I usually wear Loner colors, but my most recent venture into the Zone found me making making my bed with the Freedom faction, and it was a nice change of pace. Did take a while to get used to being friendly with Mercs and hostile to Duty though, had a few unfortunate accidents in the early days of my run.
You know why I always watch Kentucky, because he seems to have the most fun of any guntuber! Just a big ol kid, probably how I would be on the range if I had my own. But yet he always takes safety seriously...*coughs...put a thumb in it. ;) He also probably has one of the messiest ranges on the planet. Keep up the great content, always hectic fun!

One of the things I've always liked about shotgun shells is how easy it is to reload them with whatever you have handy. I trust the 4ga will be back, I'd love to see a row of watermelons take on one of those slugs or even the buckshot.
The ending of the video had me laughing so damn hard! The way the table just gets whipped around the trees is hilarious, and the way it destroys multiple tree branches and gets air time at it is even better!
