Clam chowder is uncommon in Britain but is available in certain restaurants and very few supermarkets but i think most Brits wouldn't even look out for it.

We're surprised with all of the coastline in the UK that it's not more common.

Hi guys. I rarely eat soup, but I do like it, especially homemade (not that i make it!) with a chunk of good bread. I loved clam chowder, on my one and only trip to the US, visiting my sister who in the early 90's lived in Massachusetts. It was at a very nice restaurant and the chowder was delicious! I never thought a tinned chowder would cut it. Who knows? I may now look out for it in our supermarkets. Homemade would be good, but clams, like most seafood, is expensive in the UK.
Like you, I'm also a fan of sourdough bread! 😊

You must have had New England clam chowder like we had. There is Manhattan clam chowder that is tomato based. I've never tried it and not sure it could beat the creamy New England version. Did you get to have it in a sourdough bread bowl? It may be more of a west coast thing as I think it originated in San Francisco. Seafood is expensive here too, especially lobster, crab.

@@FinnLovesFood yes, it definitely wasn't tomato-based. And unfortunately it wasn't served in the bread loaf. Sounds 👌

Definitely give it a try if you can find solid brands like in the vid or Heinz clam chowder. I've only seen the Heinz where I work though in 50oz cans. Totally worth it though lots of soup. Loaf of nice bread and boom that's lunch/ dinner.

Hi both. Ii've never had clam showder or fish soup. Lol. I like fish but don't like slimey ones like muscles, clams etc. I don't like salmon or plaice either.
I Iike prawns, bass, basa, cod , haddock, shrimp, crab, octopus, lobster and smoked mackeral. Used to.like cockles but rarely see them.
One thing the UK has which i'l never try is : Canned Jelly eels. 🤮.
Anywah. I am ok. Not well but plodding along. Laryngitis and i feel a cold coming on.
Foot wise : i am allowed to walk around the house as normal but still wear the boot when outside and use either 1 crutch or none. Back again in april.
It's still cold and wet here. It will be till atleast june or july where we get 2 weeks of summer if we're lucky.
Speak soon. Love to you both and finn. Leon 🇬🇧 xx😊

@@FinnLovesFood In Victorian times Smoked Kippers on hot well buttered toast was popular, sometimes with a side a scrambled eggs. I saw it on a Sherlock Holmes movie and decided to try it (no eggs). Def a strong taste (and salty), and have to pick out the bones before or during eating, but I really liked it. A very hearty Brekkie. And of course with a strong cup of tea!

Uh ohhhhh…… opening titles, darling dogster Finn wearing his funny Alpine yodeller outfit trundling over the kitchen floor as background music plays…..cue a greeting from our “food reactions” hosts Ross & Tina and they are holding an indication of what they are taste testing….. oooh ‘citing! what are they munching today?? what will they say?? Ooooh let’s hear their valued opinions on ….??
“Hello….it’s a really stormy day here, we’ve had a lot of rain…..” 😳😳. Their opening comment is an important weather report! Before discussing the food they will be trying, they are giving a grumble about what it’s like “out there” and will it get better or worse?! 😳 😄.
Congratulations R&T your British citizenship is no longer “honorary”, both of you are now officially and confirmed “one of us”! 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻🇬🇧🇬🇧. A local weather report to open a conversation is something is just what we always do “over here” and that introduction was the perfect way of confirming your “Britishness”! 😆😆
Anyway…..I’ve never knowingly had a clam - but if a clam is similar to a scallop, then I ADORE those! In a paella or risotto or just just fried in butter and served in its shell with a crumble top potato mash.. oooh lubbblleee! But they are HIDEOUSLY expensive over here 😣😦 I do believe that there are “scallop farms” in some coastal areas, I will have to check. But enjoy your seafood soup, I love all seafood (except for whelks, far too chewy 🤢) woukd love to try it myself 😃 much love xxx

I'm disappointed that the Union flag is not an option on my computer under the CZcams emojis! Living in California you will hear us grumble a bit about the rain. 😃We've got another wet weekend ahead, but winter is the wet season here and we usually need the water to get through the dry summers.
We've hear that clams are similar to cockles. A quick Google search confirms that they are distant cousins.
      Have a wonderful weekend Helen!

We don't have it in Britain. We do have Campbell's. I had it in a restaurant under the golden gate bridge in a bread bowl. It was so good I eat the bowl as well. Heinz is the most popular soup in Britain. I don't have a favourite flavour. Too many to choose from. But we do have some that America doesn't. Blue cheese and broccoli, beef broth, Brown Windsor, oxtail, mulligatawny, and on and on. Sea food in Britain is very expensive so making your own is just not worth it.

Clam chowder in a bread bowl is our favorite way to have it. Sounds like you had a great view from that restaurant too! It's funny how broccoli and Cheddar soup is popular here, but you never see blue cheese and broccoli soup.
