For $5k, you could have an absolutely insane coffee setup at your home, AND pay for actually good beans for a couple years.
This announcement coincides with Intel cutting various employee benefits, primarily quarterly bonuses and employee recognition programs. It could be a complete coincidence, but it sounds like it’s part of wider cost-cutting measures at Intel. Glad LTT found a replacement because the tech upgrade videos are always the best

Frankly it's totally understandable and arguably also the right thing to do. How would you feel as an Intel employee, eating a paycut and seeing them give away thousands in sponsorship money?

well Intel has been killing there cash reserves, and they need to make drastic changes over the next 1-2 years to make sure they don't die. Obviously they'll always have the FABs, but they could lose the chip making division.
If AMD ever pulls out of this deal sometime in the future please get Luke as the last episode, not because he should get one but for the hilariousness of Linus rumbling through Luke's house XD

I think it would be more amusing to have Luke never get one, and then like....a few months after they end, just do a random "LTT Extreme Upgrade" episode and have it be Luke. To make it even better, it is not even them upgrading anything, just Linus bumming around Luke's house for an hour.

I'm really looking forward to AMD's version of this. It sounds awesome. I do kinda understand Intel's decision here, given their financial situation, and also the rumors that AMD is going to completely eat their lunch in the datacenter market over the next year or two.

I think Intel could realistically afford to do it without extra layoffs or paycuts for anybody. They have billions in the bank, and it's not like they're taking net losses at a rate that would bankrupt them within the next ten years.

@@liambrinton9935 they don’t like to see cuts in variable costs though, they like to see cuts in fixed costs, i.e. Labour or master lease agreements. You need to think about the percent this cost would be for the company, let’s say it’s 100k an episode (definitely way less than that) that’s 1.2 million a year this is costing. Their net income in 2022 was 8 BILLION, that’s billion with a B. This is couch change to them
My favourite ones are the episodes with people we never see on camera. They are always fun to get to know.

Yeah, 100%. My favorite ones have been Nicole, Chase, and Sarahs. The first 2 don’t really ever show up on camera and Sarahs been in a few short circuits and some other stuff but they don’t show up THAT often, but they were all hilarious

Honestly the more I think about it, the less it makes sense as an investment to me. A company like Intel doesn't need brand recognition - we all know who they are. They certainly aren't going to need it from LMG in this manner.
Honestly the Intel Extreme upgrade series was honestly my fav. series beside scrapyard wars, it allowed us to better know the team at LTT and it was honestly just good vibes all around.

But be honest, how many times has one of them episodes made you more favourable to buying intel products? You probably saw the CPU they chose and thought "yeah, that's because intel sponsored it, AMD probably has better options". I mean, imagine they required intel GPUs.

I'm surprised that Intel kept it going this long. But I hope they saw a benefit from it, because it was an awesome show of goodwill. Yeah, I'll never get a "free" $5000 to spend on equipment. But it's great that your employees are getting it. And the videos are great.
And I think it's great that AMD is going to pick up the flag. Now they'll get to showcase their stuff.
I personally feel like any revenue made on those particular videos must've been given to Intel or at least a part of it. Not sure tho
@@abdullahnaeem7275 You think Intel only pays the 5k for the videos? They also pay a hefty sum for a sponsored video, the money from the ad revenues is really small.
@@abdullahnaeem7275 Quite the opposite, Intel spends a lot more than 5k on the video, they also pay a large sponsorship fee. LTT keeps that plus all of the ad revenue from the video. The video is itself a giant ad for Intel, which is what they're getting out of the equation

If you compare it to an advertisement on TV, it's a cheaper way. They will pay the 5k, the production and a good amount on top
And still i think it's cheaper, than a 24 TV commercials ...
And you must not forget, that the audience is definitely into PC stuff, and you see how many people you reach.
I think it's a perfect deal for both sides.
Even if they pay 50k for each episode it's cheaper than TV...
Dennis' Intel Extreme Tech Upgrade was hilarious, I've watched it several times just because it's so fun to have him just live out all of his chaotic good energy.

IETU was one of my favourite series, sad to see it go but an AMD take on it would be very interesting considering a large change in market in the past few years on AMDs part
I rewatched Sarah, Nicole, and Dennis's upgrade so many times. Sarah being impressed with the wrong thing about the tech, Nicole's introverted awkwardness, and Dennis being Dennis always make me laugh so much.
the extreme tech upgrade actually have a ton of tech tips on them especially for someone who doesn’t know a lot about tech

very true, seeing them actually set up a computer/sound/decor in a room and plan it out is very different from just building one in a film studio.
Vlog-style content has always been a hit because we like seeing all of you interact. Moving vlog (both office and house), office tours, tech upgrades, server upgrades, etc are always super fun to watch because it's obvious all of *you* are having a blast.
I want to see Dan's upgrade. Mostly because I love Dan.
It seems like AMD is finally starting to get it. Their marketing has always been atrocious, even when their products are amazing. This kind of community outreach is the best kind of marketing IMO. It won't only show off their products, but it will also cut back on the cringe compared to normal marketing materials, and also show that they aren't playing second fiddle anymore. Let's hope they let LMG do their thing instead of being controlling and intrusive. Basically their only requirement should be to use their products, nothing else.
Intel Extreme Tech Upgrade was probably my favourite LTT series, can't wait to see the AMD Ultimate Tech Upgrade! And actually I always wished to see an AMD version, literally my only gripe with this series was that they were always building Intel systems when AMD has clearly been making the better CPUs in recent years. Now we finally get to see it!
I was really hoping someone would manage to convince Intel to build a Ryzen system with an Arc GPU as a gag. Alas, it is not to be.

@16:00 that's not only a threadripper bug, it's a general ryzen bug. My Ryzen 1600 will lock up in the same manner when idle. Have to have C states all disabled for it to remain stable.
The LMG family of channels are some of my favorites. At 51 y/o, I like to think I am moderately tech-savvy, but, I admit, as often as not, I do end up leaving before then end, as I get lost in all the spec details, various performance metrics that I don't know/understand, etc. The ETU vids were, indeed, some of the most interesting, and always kept my attention throughout!
WOW glad that amd's going to pick up something similar with y'all because i didn't just watch the intel extreme tech upgrades, i rewatched them as well. y'all got at least 5 extra views on EACH of those from me alone.
13:38 Literally my exact setup, accidentally ordered a case that was too small, (and the power supply didnt have a 6 pin) so I just grabbed my old PSU and got a riser to attach my graphics card to the outside of my computer

I think in the same vein, this is also why people enjoyed the videos with Kallmekris. Seeing the banter that is, by its nature, not very scripted and meant to be more natural is generally more enjoyable to more people, in addition to everything mentioned earlier.

I would highly suggest creating more videos highlighting the personality of your staff in the future. It's the best thing to come out of the whole series.

Linus,just to note,the p-state crash you mention only requires you to disable the highest pstate(7? iirc) since that is the one that freaks it out.

Intel extreme upgrade was one of my fave segments. I remember when it started though and AMD were making the best cpus at the time! Tell you what I'm going to do for you Linus! I'm going to have an Intel extreme tech upgrade marathon and watch them all again!
Dennis' one is actually one of the best LTT videos ever.
My 5k dream set up would involve a squat rack. I have been trying to incorporate mini workouts through out the day. Every hour doing reps of some exercise. So far is 10 deadlifts every hour.
I find it hard to beat my old setup, when I first moved out. The computer was already pretty beaten up, being in a teenager's room. It was a bit prone to overheating - mostly because the thermal paste was long gone and the heat sink/fan would literally sometimes fall off the cpu entirely - so I had the case open all the time and could just reach in to snap it back on for a bit. And the yellow ground wire was loose in the plug to the hard drive (this is old IDE stuff) so every now and then I had to reach in and push it back in (there were no spare connections available). And I games and played online with this thing for several months in that state before my first job was able to pay for enough replacement parts - one at a time, mind you - to build even a barebones computer to replace it. And I didn't care. I loved the computer, because it worked and had worked for so long that it was in THAT shape and still functional.
I ended up replacing it with a Celeron 300A that I overclocked to 450 (and snapped a hard drive fan setup onto the back of the CPU for extra cooling). I admit I'm a bit foggy anymore if the Celeron was the rig that also had the DVD Decoder and a Voodoo2 in it, at the same time (who else remembers pass through video like that?) and the next system was the one that got the TNT then the GeFroce, or if that was the Celeron and the system above was the one with the DVD decoder (and, clearly, eventually fixing the power supply, heat sink/thermal paste, and case issues). But I am not strange to some pretty hash job computer rigs.
The reason Luke hasn’t done extreme tech upgrade - he’s got a lot of stolen office equipment at home 😂

i like lukes power button solution... when i had a case w/ no power button i clipped the end off some other wire w/ a female connector and shorted the bare ends on the case to turn it on...
Linus part about how people spend the 5000 is what I like about tech upgrades. Seeing what other stuff they upgrade with the set up r if they just upgrade their set up is what was interesting

Currently i am running 4 wires from a button with and LED-Ring trough the mesh on the back of my Case to the Powerbutton/LED connector on my Motherboard, so that the Powerbutton is next to my Controll Panel for my height adjustable desk. I intend to swap that jankyness for a single Networkcable with a PCI Bracket RJ45 Passthrough thingamajig to reduce the risk of breaking my Motherboard, just because i pulled a cable by accident
tech upgrade series was so entertaining and i also get an idea for my set-up (if one day i ever have the budget) it's such a win-win situation for advertiser, creator and viewers.
