Hi Jere! Unfortunately one never knows when an incident like what you experienced can easily escalate and become violent. Too many people on the road become totally unhinged. You did the right thing by apologizing, even though you may have done nothing wrong at all. It is more important to keep yourself safe ❤ You never know what a person is going through in their life and they may be frustrated and easily triggered. I like to think that kindness and an apology, even though you may be being falsely accused, is the best way to remain safe.

Some people's road rage scare the hell out of me. These crazy people will get so enraged over the littlest things, sometimes I don't even understand what they're so mad about. There have been multiple shootings on the freeway around my neck of the woods (the PNW) and I worry whenever my kids are riding with us.
I sympathize. Here in New York, driving is treated like a combat sport. The state knows how we drive and in drivers ed and defensive driving course it tells us to not engage with aggressive drives (aka any other driver). We are also taught to anticipate what everyone else is going to do.
Thank you for being your calm, cool and collected self. That guy wasted more of his time being mad than anyone else could have wasted by not following traffic rules. Joke’s on him. I hope he gets some help, that stress will kill him young.

I was behind 2 cars and farm equipment today. Because of the farm equipment, we were driving slow. This guy behind me is on my bumper. He puts his arm out the window and gives me the finger. So the tractor slows down a little because we are going slightly uphill and I apply my brakes because the cars in front of me did. This guy beeps at me and again gives me the finger. We were going thru town so not a passing zone. He turned down the nearest side street speeding. Wow just wow
im 15 and i am so excited to start driving but also terrified and this is one of the reasons. im so impressed that u acted so calm and mature cuz if that was me i would have thrown hands right then and there💀
I just start blasting music and avoid eye contact if I make someone mad and then they feel powerless because they’re getting 0 attention in return from me.

I am so so sorry this happened, this is why my bf always tells me don’t engage you never know what will happen , my sisters sister in law flipped someone off in the Savannah ga Walmart parking lot while driving away because he nearly hit them- dude had a gun and tried to shoot at them. Is that person a jerk absolutely but it’s better to just let it go and keep going because sadly you don’t know if this will be the final straw for this person. Another reason why we need stricter gun regulations. As someone also from Georgia I can say drivers here are insane , it’s a whole new level and I’ve been to New York.
On account of how much you walk, I suspect you are actually quite in tune with your surroundings, pedestrians, cyclists, school zones, etc, when driving. I was pedaling a cargo bike with three kids in it yesterday, in a roundabout with "sharrows", and got passed in a single lane roundabout literally right next to a sign that says Bikes Use Full Lane. Homeslice was willing to risk the lives of me and three littles to save himself seven seconds, TOPS. Some people dramatically overestimate how long their drive is set back by letting someone else go first at a stop sign or waiting for that pedestrian to fully clear the lane. It's seconds. That's all.
Someone did something similar for the exact same situation. They pretended to almost run into me. It was so scary and really strange. I regularly get into a situation where we both don’t know who is supposed to go first but never have I gotten someone to be so angry with me over it to almost cause a wreck. As I passed looking at him confused he gave me this unhinged look on his face as if to imply I’m an idiot. Like hello? Someone had to go at some point. Sorry for the confusion. No need to cause actual harm.
I had someone pull up next to me once and I just refused to look at them. Eventually they drive away but it was kind of scary because there are some crazy people out there

Well, I just encountered this the other day, when a lady just went for it out of turn. No I did not chase her down of course, not my personality. Just remember, we do our best. So sad, that there are people like this in the world.
I dont think I ever told anyone off However I have honked at people oddly not usually drivers maybe if they cut me off or something fairly close. I find it is more cyclists and pedestrians that I honk at for running a red light or stop sign. All these are specifically when they nearly cause a crash.

Yesterday I was coming out of a gas station crossing the road and I didn't see this other car doing the same going the opposite direction. I see my opening and pull out and she comes at me, stops in the middle of the road and starts screaming. I just keep it rolling I dint even know why she was acting like that I didn't even come close to hitting her.
It is not worth it at all, A small inconvenience such as this no matter how bad your day is going or whatever you have going on should never make you display behavior like that..
