i think more to the statement should be ''in life you are not responsible for the whole thing just your part in it'' play your part well and the outcome will become.
it's a little bit of both, cause you can always attempt to influence the actions of someone else, for good or bad, if you influence someone to do wrong, you take part in the responsibility of what happens, and if you don't try to stop someone from doing wrong, you are making yourself part of the responsible party, for whatever happens.
