- Versatile fast zoom lens Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 for Sony APS-C cameras vs Tamron 17-70mm f2.8 VC with built-in stabilization for Sony FX30, Sony a6700, Sony ZV-E10, Sony a6400. The best budget all-around zoom lens for Sony E crop cameras under 700$. Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 is incredibly lightweight and compact lens with great full frame equivalent focal length of 27-75mm, great sharpness, awesome minimum focusing distance and nice bokeh. Tamron 17-70mm f2.8 is a super-versatile lens with 25.5-105mm full frame equivalent focal length and built-in stabilization, so it's a great option for APS-C cameras with no IBIS, but I had issues with Tamron 17-70mm f2.8 VC with my Sony FX30 in terms of stabilization. Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 vs Tamron 17-70mm f2.8 VC comparison video contains: Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 vs Tamron 17-70mm f2.8 VC sharpness, distortion and vignette comparison, size, weight and dimensions comparison, Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 vs Tamron 17-70mm f2.8 VC stabilization test, focus breathing, minimum focusing distance and bokeh comparison, Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 vs Tamron 17-70mm f2.8 VC autofocus comparison with Sony FX30, chromatic aberrations and prices comparison. Would you pick Sigma or Tamron? Or maybe something else?

Sigma in my opinion :)
Can you make a review about Viltrox 75mm f1.2 pro
Sigma
Tamron for a6400
Guess It all depends on what you do and what you have lacked certain times. I thought about these two for 5 months and yesterday I ordered the tamron. Today I found your video and feel great about my decision. Thanks for this incredible video.
I was sure I was gonna get the Tamron 17-70 but after watching this, I realize the Sigma fits my needs more and opens up possibilities with such a tiny size and weight. Thanks for making this thoughtful comparison!
Welcome) stay tuned)
As someone who owns the Tamron 17-70, I would agree that the VC issues needs sorting, however I still think it's better on than off. I also think having the extra range without too many optical compromises is a good way to think about it, if you don't mind the size. I would definitely like to see Tamron fix the VC issues and manual focus, even if they need to release a mkii version as I do think this is a great lens otherwise.
This the best comparison I have seen. Great video.
Glad you liked it! Stay tuned!
thank you for this detailed review!
Probably the best comparison between exactly this two lenses. Thanks!
Thanks, stay tuned)
agree!❤
it's one of the best reviews I have seen, thank you so much.
Thanks mate) stay tuned!
best comparison review I've ever seen, congratulations for all the detailed knowledge you have, it made a total difference in my choice
Thanks mate)) appreciate it! Stay tuned😎
Great review, thank you so much.
Welcome) stay tuned)
Excellent review! Got my questions on Tamron answered: VC fights with IBIS, lose focus when zooming quickly. Thank you.
Welcome 😉 stay tuned!
@@NOlimitsONso, for a6700 thst has Ibis, i should choose sigma over tamron?
Great review! love the comparissons made. I'm still somewhat undecided on which one to get but I'm leaning towards the Sigma for the Fuji X Mount. Also it would be hilarious to see people's faces passing by watching you thrust your hand up like that to a camera
😂😂thanks mate) it’s just a test) sigma is great, you won’t regret buying it
This is such a complete comparison, that's what we are talking about! loved it 🤌👌👏
Thanks a lot mate)) stay tuned!
I have the 18/50 I shoot video And photo , my go to prime lens is the sigma 30mm 1.4 and this is a really good lens to me ! Maybe the 17/70 is more versatile but the sigma is light and small. Really good lens
Thank you very much! Very clear explanation for me as a newbie 👏✨
Thanks a lot 😉
Thank you for the comparison. I brought the sigma with 6700 to Japan last month, its a beast!
Thanks mate) stay tuned!
Believe me i have seen all other comparisions by big youtubers( by subs no.) Your are one heck of a gem made it clear which one to buy and so butter smooth video instant sub and best out there.
Thanks bro! Really appreciate it!
decided to go with tamaron with one prime lense with focal lense i’ll use often for light weight!
This seems like a nice and high quality breakdown! (I skipped through some of it - I already made my decision, and wanted to share some thoughts 😅)
I use the Tamron 17-70 for photo and video on the ZV-E10. It's the lens that's usually on the camera, and I've had a flawless experience with it.
When I debated which one to pick, it looked like I slightly preferred the Tamron because of the extra focal range and image stabilization (advantages I would mainly use for video - if I didn't do video I would've slightly preferred the Sigma). I knew I was willing to work with the extra weight and size for those advantages, but I could've gone with either. I buy all my lenses used, the price between these two was about equal, so that wasn't a deciding factor. I could've gone with either, but I ended up with a decent deal on the Tamron, and I certainly don't regret it.
I think most people will be happy with either - they both seem like incredible kit-lens replacements.
Nice review! Should I be worried about no stabilization on the Sigma on the 6100 for photography? With a fast enough
shutter speed in mind of course
Thanks) no, I think for photos you’ll be fine with sigma)
without stabilization, at 50 mm and a little dark you will feel the difference.
After watching many these two lens comparisson , and asking what i really need myself, i decided to bought Tamron and no regret.
Yes it is bigger and heavier
But im ok with that
Im more lean to videography, so, here are the advantages in my opinion:
17mm and 70mm range (it helps when u are run and gun shooter).
VC
Great AF
Great image quality.
Cheers
big thank you for this detailed test video, I couldn't decide between the two lenses, but you helped me and I choose sigma for my a6400 👏👏👏 greatest comparison

@@NOlimitsON which one do you prefer for a6400?, Tamron 17-70 F2.8 Di III-A VC RXD or sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 sony-e?, (image quality first!)
适马1850真的很轻便很好用,可惜前些天我在机场弄丢了。最近准备再买一个,结果发现比去年涨价了很多!
I wish the sigma had weather sealing :( that’s so important for me… I’ll just go for the Tamron when I have the money
Thanks for the video! Most detail review about these beasts
Thanks) stay tuned!
Though the price is absolutely outrageous I went for the Sony 16-55 f2.8 for my FX30.
Wanted to be able to travel with a single lens that was good for vloging and had some range on it too.
It is an absolutely great lens and all the features make it a fantastic partner for the FX30... but wow even used that price tag was still a lot!
Hi, after 2 month, would you still recommend the 16 - 55 for the fx30, did you look at the 16-35 pz? Cheers!
@@kalkydra I still really enjoy the Sony 16-55 f.28 on my FX30. I will be taking as my only lens on a month long trip to Asia. I wanted the more of a zoom range and I will be shooting a fair bit in low light so that f4.0 wouldn't really work for me. Also as much as I'm still a novice, I prefer the look of my manual zooms.
I don't know other people's circumstance so I am not into saying one or the other. But between the two I would ask the questions that pertain to what you can afford, if it is for fun more than earning an income, what will your lighting situation be and will you make use of power zoom? Once you have reconciled your answers then the facts should dictate your choice.
Is The 20mm Addition really matter and I don’t mind the weight ,I’m planning on buying The A6700 within June and thought of buying the 18-135 but thought it would be better to get prime lens for bokeh and low light, Btw it’s my first camera & lens.
Thanks for your work. Good review and video. One question is bugging me. I saw lot of people complain about the IBIS and VC fighting each other and not being really compatible in the Tamron 17-70. Sometimes the video shakes or flick in a very anoying way and you can't disable only VC. Did you found those issues in your video testing? Thanks!
Thanks mate) as you saw from my video - the issue is still there and it’s not working as it’s supposed to… hopefully one day Tamron releases the firmware 😅
Perfect video! Thx!
Get Sigma for :-
1. Lighter Weight
2. Smaller Size
3. Lower Price
Get the Tamron for :-
1. Weather Sealing
2. Optical Stabilisation
3. Broader Focal Range, 1mm extra on the wide end and 20mm extra on the telephoto end.
Thank you for making this video. You just ended my camera+lens crisis. I will choose to buy a6700 along with sigma 18-50mm instead of a7cii and Sony fe 24-50mm. Saves me a hundred bucks
Welcome mate) stay tuned)
I got the Tamron for my ZV-E10, just because of the VC & I am happy about this combination
Was the stabilization a huge deal as this guy makes it out to be?
I have the same set up. I love that lens. I’ve been able to take some really great pictures.
That shot at 0:55 is what earned the like. That's EXACTLY what i've been wondering.
Edit: The whole video is great btw, that shot of the size comparison is just what I've been looking for for weeks and you're the first to show it.

Excelente vídeo. Enhorabuena.
Thanks a lot) you gotta test it first… I’m not sure
Most honest review out there 😬 very pro thx

Big thanks for your comparison that’s a big help. One question, I have the Sony a7c. Which one do you suggest to go with ? Mainly for video. Thanks 😊
Well, why do you need a crop-lens for a full frame camera?)) I'd suggest Sony 24-105mm f4 OSS for video work with A7c
Superb Video 🔥💯
Planing to buy my first cam so I'm super confused & excited at the same time😂
Thanks mate)) I appreciate it!
Great video! I just bought my first camera, canon eos r50 and I was in between buying either one of these lenses. Then I noticed canon eos r50 was not listed in either brand's website. I thought using an ef to rf adapter would work for any brand but is there something I am missing? Or can I just buy one appropriate adapter and then use the lens, that's it? If that's the case would it matter what kind of mount the lens has?(considering there are variations for different bodies)
Hey) as far as I know - canon’s RF Mount is locked to almost exclusively canon own lenses. There are some third party options, but not a lot… so you’d better check the list of compatible lenses on the website
Own the tamron pairing with my A6000. I've stop bringing out my prime lenses since then.
So stabilization is good?
@@ChrisParayno yes, very useful for video shots at long end
nice vid!!! thanks
Great comparison

This was a review of Tamron 8 days ago. DOn't they have a firmware update about the shakiness or jumping?
As far as i know - no
Great sharing!
To me, extra focal length is more important. Bear ib mind that when compare to Siny 24-105 F4 lens. The weight of Tamron is nothing😊
Thanks) stay tuned)
Thank you bro 👍

in regards to the lenses of the video. For the sony zv-e10 which combo is better? Combo 01: Sigma + gimbal vs Combo 02: Tamron
Combo 1
both lenses are good also for landscape and portrait? i have sony a6600. I'm very undecided between these 2 lenses, I'm interested in the 20mm more than the Tamron but the dimensions hold me back a bit
Both are good for landscape and portraits. I’d go for Tamron
@@NOlimitsONthx man! More and more confused
I bought the tamron few months ago. The autofocus + zoom on my sony fx30 is terrible, unusable. If you use it fixed all good, as soon as you touch the zoom it destroy the image. For most of the people it's a minor problem but it's there. Never had the same problem with a sony lens.
I have an a6000 without built in stabilization. Would you still recommend the Sigma still if I'm primarily using it for photography?
Yes
@@NOlimitsON Thanks bro!
I have a6600 which one should I go for? I generally do photography but I’m concerned about weather sealing too
I’d go for the Tamron in your case
I have a zv10, the main use is online streaming on Facebook at a fixed distance of 10 meters or a little less. What would you recommend me? Thank you very much in advance
Hey) I’d get Tamron 17-70 in this case. The extra reach is very handy in your case
Curious about low light performance of the Sigma. How is it at 2.8?
It depends on the camera body, not the lens) f2.8 is f2.8, it’s fine for most cases
so.. with a zv e10 with electronic stabilizer which of the 2 is better to use for photos? and which one for videos?
Tamron
What do you think of tamron 17-70 with my a6700? I’m leaning more towards the tamron because of the weather seal. Need your help and opinion bro. Thanks
If you do mostly photos - that’s a good option)
@@NOlimitsON thank you so much, but if i want to take videos i should go sigma? Subbed to your great channel!
It is the first time that I hear the tamrons vc would not work combined with ibis of a camera. Most CZcamsrs say both gets combined? Can anyone in the comments advise further please?
Should I use the tamron or sigma primes for videos with the a6700?
I’d go for sigma with a6700
30mm ff equivalent makes a huge difference tho
Fantastic video with excellent examples on the stabilization, only video I have seen address this. Would you go for the sony 16-55 2.8 instead of the sigma?
Thanks a lot! The 16-55 2.8 is simply too expensive in my opinion… I don’t think it’s worth almost 2.5x the price over sigma to be honest.
Would a Sony a6400 with the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 and a Gimbal be better than a a6400 with the Tamron 17-70mm f2.8 without Gimbal for both Photography and Videography?
I'd say for video - yes and for photos - no)
Do you know how the Tamron will do on the sony zv-e1 in terms of stabilization? I shoot mostly videos and dont want the lens to mess up the AI stabilization that sony zv-e1 has...
Why don’t you get a full frame lens for this cam?
Not sure… didn’t test it…
@@NOlimitsON ok, thanks! Great video 👍

18-50
Is the tamron 17-70mm will be available to rf soon? Any news?
I guess no
What do you think of the 18-135mm from Sony? with variable f stops
It’s fine, but the variable aperture is a pain for video, so wouldn’t consider it
Hello everyone!! im new to camera gear. im wondering if i should get the sigma one if im shooting with a6700. i was wanting to do stills and cinematic video at the gym. also should i get a 30mm prime from sigma too? or this zoom lens? send help!!! ty
I’d go for sigma 18-50mm f2.8 first and then get 30mm f1.4 in addition
I own the Tamron 17-70 and it's currently paired with my A6700. I mainly do photography. Do you think the VC in the Tamron combined with the IBIS in the A6700 is effective for stills? I guess it's something I'll have to test 😤
You’d better test it yourself… I think it does work, but it’s a minor improvement
@@NOlimitsON Thanks for the feedback!
@@DIGITALMIND63 I have a ZV-E10 and was looking for a lens between the Sigma and the Tamron. I plan on upgrading to a A6700 later on and do you think the Tamron works well with the A6700?
The Sigma is around $200 cheaper than the Tamron so its a pretty hefty difference.
@@dingleberry1242 I am primarily a photographer. For my use the Tamron works flawlessly. The extra reach at 70mm is important to me. Despite some CZcamsr's claiming the images are a bit soft at 70mm, that is not the case for my copy. I can tell you that the Tamron is a significantly larger lens than the Sigma. Something to keep in mind if you want to keep your setup compact. If you don't need the extra reach I'd go with the Sigma 18-50. I just bought the Sigma for my daughter and I had a chance to test it out. It's a superb lens. Hope this helps.
@@DIGITALMIND63 Thanks for the reply! I prefer longer focal lengths during my time with the kit lens to avoid having to be up close to someone like in an event or something. I hope the jerky movement of the Tamron's stabilization gets fixed as the movement is too unnatural in my opinion

The Tamron
Can we use catalyst browse with footage shot with active steady shot enabled?
Not really…
@@NOlimitsON hey, we can. I checked. But I found the best output comes from standard steady shot plus catalyst browse.
@@zakiradi450Because the change Active SteadyShot does is digital and the Standard is when the attached lens has some sort of stabilization.
Active kinda breaks catalyst browse and works best when there is no change done in the footage afaik
@@dingleberry1242 yes. Agreed. Earlier u couldn't edit even standard steady shot footage in catalyst browse. So I was forced to use a gimbal. Now I do some jobs with just standard steady and catalyst.

Awesome. Biggest concern is the color shift of tamron. Very unpleasant
You can adjust it in camera with white balance or in post in one click) it’s not an issue)
very tough. i like the extra zoom which i could use, i like the VC (not that it doenst work proper), i dislike the extra length. Overal the sigma seems like a better quality lens in results. But for video, the extra zoom/VC is naice.... but i mainly use gimbal or tripod.... so i guess i like the lighter version/quality of sigma better and i guess i can live without the extra zoom. also that tamron goes a bit wider is naice for video... even do its just a little, everybit is naice. men, tought choice.
