    Nice fence! If I wasn’t retired and still in the business I’d be getting one! As for those plastic tabs, get yourself some dowel rod the same diameter as the hole and cut up a bunch and throw them in a container. You’ll always have enough on hand.

  • @michigancrownmolding
    @michigancrownmolding Před 3 lety +9

    cant wait to see the next video on how those new crown stops work for you... i wonder why you couldn't put something permanent (like a nut and bolt) into the slides (instead of the plastic pieces)... because slides remove (and tighten) very easily (from the looks of it). ... you definitely have my interest on this one, my crown stops are always in the way, thats pretty much why I use two chops box on most of my jobs.

    • @toolman101476
      @toolman101476 Před rokem +1

      The holes are 5mm holes so any shelf pin fits the holes. The reason you wouldn’t want something permanent is having the ability to remove it quickly to cut other stuff is a nice benefit

    Pretty cool fence set up, though the, "John's doing casing and I'm doing crown" is as simple a fix as setting up another miter saw station (yeah, you'll need another miter saw). You'll be amazed at how much time you save by not having to reset the saw for your task or having to wait on John making a cut. Casing doesn't need the CutHub stuff, just an accurate saw and a stable platform (stand). Really kinda of surprised you haven't gotten two stations going on the larger projects.

  • @mmgross144

    Great jig! In the 20 plus years that I've installed crown, the lack of fence height requirements for handling tall crown was always an issue. The ability to preset your cutting angle will save a lot of time.

  • @James-gg4ld

    I'm not a carpenter but, why would I have to drill a hole in my saw when the maker of the fence could provide precision holes for zero-clearance? Ok, maybe there are different kerf widths, still seems like an opportunity for the maker to provide a micro adjustable kerf on the fence itself.

    OK, so a few observations. First its a beautiful piece and having some machinist background I can say its worth every penny. However, for 399 you can get a brand new DWS779 everyday and sometimes its on sale with a free stand (granted its not a stand like you have but for a second or back up saw it works). So the question becomes, if you have more than one guy cutting are you better off with this or a second saw? Im thinking a second saw so there isnt anyone ever waiting in line at the saw. Also, Im not a fan of the "zero clearance" arrangement. If you put them tight and re-tap the fence once you make a few miter cuts L&R its not going to be "zero clearance" any longer. It would have been better if it had a way to accept a wood insert that could be easily replaced for zero clearance. Or they should have been slotted with a recessed screw that attaches them to the fence so they could be loosened and slide back and forth easily to make allowances for "zero clearance" opening for different miter angles. I'm also kind of hoping that the inventor had enough foresight to make the holes for the pegs in the red t slot pieces at the proper height for common crown sizes to minimize fussing with the thumb screws in the back.

    You do know that the yellow plate under your blade is adjustable to zero clearance, do you not? As I recall, there is a tab you snip off and then wholes are slotted so you can loosen the screws with the provided tool and zero it out. And yes, my saws also have the shadow line projection. But the zero clearance also comes in handy when dealing with odd shapes at speed, if you know what I mean.
