The block they sent is a proofing block made on your machine to prove it was tested prior to shipping, hence the sawdust. Great video as always!

Yep... Block and sawdust just evidence of a factory test. I recently purchased a $3K espresso machine. Arrived with traces of water in the brew lines. Not a refurb, just proof it was tested before shipment.
Like when I married my wife and she came pre-loaded with some hickeys as "proof of testing".

When I was building cabinets we had one of those that had a petal that activated a pneumatic press. You didn’t have to clamp it it did it itself in one fluid motion, that is what you need my man! I believe it was the same company that made it. Made making face frames super easy, also had a big slab with a rolling bar with adjustable pneumatic presses for assembling the face frames, def can’t move it around but if you wanted to assemble everything before hitting the job site you would be in business. The company was ts Varner in Wichita Falls tx, hope you love your new machine my man!

I noticed that you insisted that the kids wear eye protection...that is great! You might think about asking the little ones with long hair to tie it up behind them when they work with power tool. That hair can wrap up tight in a an instant if it somehow gets tangled in a drill, saw , etc.

Same unit used to made by Porter-Cable...still have mine. But, then, Black and Decker bought Porter-Cable and terminated this wonderful pocket cutter. Happy to see that somebody brought it back, albeit much more expensive. The Castle hogging bit is way better than the bit Porter used to use! Congratulations!

I always enjoyed working with our 2 daughters when they were that age. Passing on knowledge builds confidence.
Twenty years ago we had a Porter Cable 550 pocket hole jig at the cabinet shop I worked at. That was my first experience with pocket holes. It was a slick little unit. Mostly used them for medicine cabinet frames since all our cabinetry was the European style. Same kind of function with the pivoting router bit today cut your pocket. The one your reviewing is pretty much a beefed up version of what PC had back in the day.

One of the best most cost effective tools Ive ever purchased so fast makes me smile every time I use it! The lower angle makes a huge difference also !To anyone considering one of these just bite the bullet worth every penny. FYI I had mine for 3 years thousands of holes 0 problems

When I started out on my own (1976), I nailed all the trim by hand...ONCE. I said screw this and bought a compressor and finish guns, but alot of older guys still nailed the trim by hand. It still amazes me that these high quality tools are available for such reasonable prices, everywhere. I pre-hung all my interior doors because then they were perfect... unlike the crap they send out these days. Better tools+quality work= more money.
Fantastic purchase. The In high school wood shop we had this machine. It was freestanding with a pedal that when you stepped on the pedal it also clamped down.

I have bought several Grizzley machines.
One was a cyclone dust collector.
When I got it unpacked and set up, the motor was dead.
I called Grizzly.
To my amazement, they don't have a process to test run electric motors.
Of course, they gave me a new one, no charge. But it was inconvenient for me.
This company that makes the pocket hole machine has a better process.
this is the old proter cable machine. Castle bought the rights. it is a fine machine. As a production shop we hav e never been let down by it. We also run their larger commercial air assisted machine.
I've never used pocket hole joinery before that looks like a very sweet machine to be used you know especially for commercial applications that I've seen is that machine used on this old house but I wasn't sure exactly what I was seeing well after watching your video again that is a really sweet machine you ought to be able to get a lot more work done in a day with it congratulations on your purchase and it's nice seeing that you aren't sponsored by a bunch of tool companies that you do like most of us and have to buy our tools and where's we wait to get the best that we can afford so we don't have to replace it later on God bless

The biggest difference in pocket holes is the drill angle 6 degree(Castle) vs 15 degree(Kreg). The Castle style is pulling almost horizontally so the surfaces stay flush.

I have a Porter Cable version of this same tool. Mine is 20 years old and man it is still going strong. Glad to see that there are alternatives since PC stopped making them.

Looks awesome. I have a porter cable. Looks identical and same results. I have had it for over 10 years now. They discontinued it within couple of years. Still works amazing.

I’ve had mine going on 10 years, gave away my 1st gen kreg kit and never looked back. Izzy swan removed the top clamp piece and I did the same, easy enough to hold work piece with your hand plus allows thicker materials to be used. Enjoy it!!!

I used one of those pocket hole machines when I worked for a custom wood shop. Back then like 25 years ago they cost $30,000.00 yeah yikes. It was priced liked that because it was new and people where tired of gluing biscuits and waiting for dry time. It was my favorite tool in the shop even better than our 4 foot belt sander vou ran face frames through. You will make your money bag in no time. Cut all your styles and rails at once then go to town. I know you've said this is in other videos but there could be a newbe watching. Nice video as usual.
That's nice Richard. I have been using the Kreg jig with pneumatic clamping for about 30 years now, and love it. That new one you have there looks like it does an excellent job, plus gotta love those young workers you have there.
I have the $400 electric Kreg foreman its the best, and most useful tool in my shop. Just my opinion, but I think I rather have the Foreman. less steps to cut a pocket hole, one pull of the handle it turns on, clamps, and cuts the hole. and has a vacuum system. However yours does make better looking pocket holes, but whos going to see them. Love your channel. thanks
This looks similar to the earlier pocket machine manufactured for a short time by Porter Cable. It never seemed to become popular in the woodworking industry. I myself used the Kreg pocket hole system which was popular and still is today. It was faster and more portable. The Porter Cable machine even required the same two step to accomplish the pocket hole. One to cut the pocket and the second to cut pilot hole. Kreg now has an affordable electric pocket hole machine that I participated in the pre market testing that is fast, cutting the complete pocket hole in one motion. This is the Kreg Foreman . Kreg also has several pneumatic multi-spindle machines. Like everything else there is multiple companies developing and improving on all the popular and successful techniques . Cutting of a pocket hole and how clean it cuts will only matter if the pocket hole is in plain view of which the object of desire is the strength of the joint , its speed of completion and most of the time is hidden from view.
Thanks Richard, I did not know these existed. The Maksiwa PHM 3.0 seems to also be a solid and more refined "shop" machine. However, it's more than twice the cost. I never knew these existed until Richard showed me. Very cool invention/process. Thank you and congratulations on a more streamlined system. I hope you both get along well in business together.

A cabinet maker/kitchen fitter friend of mine bought one of these a few years ago. he worked out it paid for itself in saved labour alone within the first year. Without taking into account the amount or raw materials he saved.
The 1st custom cabinet shop I ever worked in we had one (same brand) very quality well built machine. My first job there was building face frames quick and smooth work. The second shop I worked in was a more production shop so there’s was fully pneumatic. Great product

Nice demo, When I looked for a pocket hole machine 5 months ago I could only find Shop Fox and Kreg Foreman. I purchased a Foreman, but not happy with the all plastic build of it. The machine you are demonstrating looks to be a much smoother machine to use and the setup much easier. I have a complete K4 master set and the Foreman now and may have to put them up for sale.
I have the 400 and love it the low angle helps also with assembly you can do face frames without clamps
So easy a two year old can do it. But you're right making work easier is making it more enjoyable. Good quality tools are worth the price.
Cabinet shop I worked at back in the 90's had something like that but it was free standing and had a foot pedal to move the routers. I built a whole kitchen (a big one) in 1 day with that thing. Also had a wall mounted face frame assembly rack. That was the best! Sliding arms with easy adjust clamps. You could do a whole frame by yourself in just a couple of minutes. Great space saver too.
That’s crazy, I’ve never seen a manual hand clamp castle machine. Ours has a foot pedal with a hydraulic press. Nice to see they offer a variety to choose from. Coolest day @ work last year, the boss “You’re going to Petaluma to pick up our new castle machine”. Awesome!!! Our shop is in San Jose. Anyways Castle is the clear freaking leader. My boss said the customer service he received from them is off the chart. They even called a year later to check and see how it was performing. We have 2, one on the main floor and one by our benches 😎

Now I'm freaking jealous, gonna order one, I was considering the Kreg machine, but this looks better in design, I do a lot of wainscotting and cabinet work, the time savings is very apparent , and i love that it predrills pilot hole separately , makes the Kreg jig look like a caveman's rock.

My old bossman had maybe a 20 yr. old pocket hole machine. It was simple, small and made perfect holes. When I built the cabinets for my kitchen remodel I wrecked my brain trying to find a similar model to no avail. I settled for just a regular Kreg jig. I was spoiled by the machine.
Looks good Richard. The Kreg Foreman does the clamp and hole in one motion, for around $380. I drill thousands of holes a week and it's a work horse.

I have the exact same unit in a Porter Cable brand. It sure does a great job, I have never used a Kreg Jig but I'm sure it isn't as easy.

The shavings are from cutting the pockets in the test block included in your unit.
I purchased one for our cabinet shop in Argyle, and wondered if it was returned as well - so I called - actually cool to see the test piece!
Good on the eye protection! Routers are loud, doubly so if you have two going at once, so hearing protection would be good too.
