The red definitely makes Kratos iconic
If it was blue, it'd have been iconic too.
Cuz it'd be classic and iconic design.

I get why they tried to go with blue first it kinda fits the whole "ghost of Sparta" thing. If they had used a lighter grey-blue it might've worked but the red markings are definitely better given his spartan background and association with blood and violence
His skin being ash white is good enough
Kratos:The last Airbender.
I think red also fits better because Blue normally represents Athens and Red represents Sparta most commonly
Speaking of Greek polis, it's also oftenly associated with Corinth, Megaris, Rhodes, etc.

Because David was too busy getting his basic bitch ass stuck in Metroid dread.😅
Because it actually happened that way goofy. I was there
If you play god of war 1 there’s a hidden level where you get to see all the older/original kratos designs that didn’t make the final cut, it’s really cool
Yeah the one eyed monsters 😂😂
That was one of my favorite features. It was like watching a DVD behind the scenes extra
Yes I remember
Diablo did something great without even realising
@user-dw7vo7yk1fstfu
I dont think Diablo had anything to do with it. If you watch the making of documentary of God of War 1, David Jaffe says he wanted the blue tattoos originally because he though red was too cliché but something in his gut just told him to switch to red.
@@deafbyhiphop well obviously he won’t admit he stole it off of someone else but Diablo 2 was released in 2000 and the first god of war was in 2005 and the mark looks very close
@@JinnHysteria well apparently Jaffe didnt know about the barbarian character from diablo and they found out kratos looked very similar to the barbarian a day before they showed their concept to the press, and they ended up changing the tattoos to red at the last minute. Jaffe didnt design Kratos btw it was by the studio artists at Santa Monica, Charlie Wen and i dont think he ripped off Diablo. You can watch the whole making of God of War series by yourself and see all the concept art they went through before stopping at the Kratos we know now
@@deafbyhiphop I don’t see it as ripping Diablo off I see it off as taking the same idea and I love both games and stuff but it seems to perfect they both look alike with the tattoo and who ever designed it may have had a idea in there head from Diablo or from someone with Diablo in there head but there is no telling if they did or did not because there not gonna come out and say they did that because it may or may not give them a bad look
From what I remember, most of Kratos' designs were literally on the fly. The artist said he doodled Kratos on a napkin during his lunch break, and cory barlog walked by and said he loved it.
I heard that the whole game was improv aswell
Crazy how they made such a legacy based on just a doodle
That's crazy
@Andre I heard they didn't even mean to make it. Some guy was in a boring work meeting and mindlessly doodled kratos on a napkin and like 3 weeks later the game was made nit was all an accident
what's "on the fly" mean, and how can one "literally" do it?
you can't take an expression and just plop "literally" in front of it. That's not how expressions work.

Kratos having blue marks instead of red would be like the “bloods” wearing all blue.
If Kratos was from Athens instead of Sparta, then I could see him sporting blue tattoos.
Imagine Atreus having blue the complete opposite of his father as how he and kratos are quite different in personality. Kratos always closes his heart to it but boi is told to open his heart to it because that's who he is. He feels for those like him. Because Kratos was never raised like that so it makes sense. Also his runic attacks and some other attacks shows blue and his feel for others to help reminds me of what he inherited from faye but when the things he inherited from his father it shows red so it truly shows that he learnt from both sides.
Ayo 5k likes? Thankss!
It would definitely fit his Norse background, especially since many characters in the Norse realm possesses blue tattoos.
Well Atreus already has blue runic tattoos and black too. They actually glow blue from what I remember time to time depending on what power he's using
but loki is gonma become a villain somehow
Nah green because of Loki idk why
If you look really closely at Atreus's model in the game, you can see he has a birthmark shaped like the tattoo. Same recessive gene his uncle got, just less pronounced.
Imagine in Ragnarok, he shows up in Blue marks so the original color was honored and then when he got back and retrieved the blades, and tries it for the first time, the blue paint burns off and shows the Red marks ☠️☠️☠️
There's a museum in the first game you access from the menu. It has a bunch of cool stuff like this that you can look at. Originally Kratos was skinnier and had dreadlocks. He was also supposed to have a baby or a small child with him, but they couldn't figure out how to make it work without being annoying. Kind of poetic that Kratos did eventually have his "bring your kid to work" adventure.
And now new fans cannot even talk about GOW or Kratos without saying "boi" or banging on about Atreus

Don't tell me what to do
Glad they changed it from blue to red💯
speaking of Deimos, do you think he should've been given more screen time or not?
That and he was rocking Athenian colors while being spartan I hope they thought of that too.
Red can also mean love, like his previous and new family.
And passion for both love and war ironically
Makes sense too since they are a tribute to his presumably dead brother
i think it wouldve been a neat idea to have a scene in gow 4 where kratos changes his colours to blue as a symbolic gesture. and it would help fit the norse theme
after Valhalla he definitely should switch it to blue
Right Red matches all tha Blood that he gets over him after every Battle he gets into
He wasnt very angery in the last two, he was teaching his son to do better
The only time he got that angry is when they said something about his son lol basically he's holding back til his son gets mentioned
He’s angry when the moment calls for it, I’d say he doesn’t “show his anger” instead he just uses it like a weapon, just like he told atreus “anger can be a weapon, if you can control it, you clearly cannot”
@@arjunsriram3878Spartan Rage demonstrates that very well, and he probably doesn't want Atreus making the same mistake he did, being blinded by rage and murdering your loved ones.
Yes and that's trash, If I play Kratos I want him To be an angry Monster, not just a babysitter.
@@opfer88play gow 1-3 then, why complain about something you won’t play?
To be fair, the Spartans signature colour was red and gold-ish yellow, it would make sense if he had red markings in the first place either way
Heh. He has a Red Skirt with some Gold-ish Yellow sign on it.
@user-dw7vo7yk1f go look at the first 3 games and say that again
If you actually beat the whole game and see the extras the first 5 kratos consist of a large baby like men, a very skinny kratos wearing armor, a bulkier version wearing the armor, kratos with blue markings and then the final product.
I think the blue marks would look good in ragnarok
Red is better, it also fits the whole "Spartan" concept, due to the specific color being used by Spartans in their attires in order to confuse their enemies during battles. The color basically functioned as a cover for their own blood in case they were wounded in battle. Also, the part of his mark near his left eye, looks like an inverted Lamda letter - Λ - which was popular to Spartans for it symbolized the broader area where Sparta is, Λακεδαιμονία (i.e. Lakedaimonia in greek).

@@SL2_.Bruh it was used to mark there own but they chose the color red for that reason they had massive intimidation they'd use. Blood getting stained on red clothing isnt going to show so you don't know you opponent is weaker than he should be

Kratos is supposed to be named as Dominos. David Jaffe said that during his interview with Kaptain Kuba.
I mean blue could also represent his sadness amd deppression. Though red does look better
The marks were originally supposed to extend to the middle of his forehead in the form of an arrow aswell, and it was going to glow when he was in spartan rage mode. I don't know why they cut that out

Ngl first time I saw Kratos when I was young I thought he looked like an angry bald David bowie 😆
Yes.
Perfect description
An Idea I thought of when I completed GOW3, was when Kratos was in Zeus’ fear realm, he found hope torches similar to the labyrinth, And at the end of it, his tattoos got blue. I felt like they should’ve added a stand of blue on his face tattoos in remembrance of Pandora’s hope.
I feel like they shouldn't have fucked the franchise and murdered Kratos' entire character with the 2 latest games.
@@TCELL24 how did they murder his character? I think he is evolving as a person not just a rage filled man on a path to vengeance. He killed everyone he wanted revenge on why would he be the same many years later with the next love of his life and son?
@@Bi-HanTheTyrant His character arc makes no sense. He's far too neutered considering where he came from and what he's done. It's a shame really because old Kratos was a much more fun character to play than this dumb B-movie tier Oscar bait. The combat itself is gimped to hell due to bad camera placement and restricted movement. It's like they stripped out all the fun and put in every generic 3rd person trope they could think of.
So what your saying is that kratos cant grow into a person tries to be calm? Plus the past games were older than god of war 2018 and god of war ragnarok obviously it is gonna have a little weird gameplay.
@@TCELL24 maybe you'll get the new Kratos once you grow up.

Not only that Blue is the color of the Greece/Athen army, Red is what color Rome/The Spartans used. So it wouldn’t make much sense for him to have blue marks, and Blue clothes.
GSP Kratos can't hurt you, he's not real
GSP Kratos:
No color could make Kratos look less threatening 😂 his face is one of the most threatening things with or without the tattoos and regardless of the color
People have already said it but it also wouldn't make much sense for a Spartan to have blue marks on him.
So that explains the blue marks for his mirror match palette swap in Mortal Kombat

Sparta colors are red if it was blue then he would have to be from Athens lol
I remember he had a skin in GOW3 that gave him the blue look, but that color doesn’t really make him look chaotic, and the ash white skin with blue makes him look like he came from a winter setting.
I once saw this piece of fan art where he had added a blue tattoo with the red for the leviathan axe
Kratos has the most unique character design out of every game protagonist.
I always loved red because of just how he looked in Photo Mode. I'm one of those people that sometimes I like to admire the detail they have in the game and Kratos himself, especially when GOW IV came out. Black and white with only red (and fire too which looks sick)
My favorite color is blue. 🤷🏼♂️ Both look great and either way the character and gameplay would have spoke for itself. Those games are still playable today and the new ones are awesome!

My mf ass: elmo
Red also connects with the constellation Aries, the fire sign, hence MARS is known to have a RED SPOT.. throughout the temples walls and gateways, the symbol of the RAM would be seen. So the red markings is a PART of Kratos before he took the title away from Ares, representing his rage before he got the ashes imprinted on his body. Blue wont have had proper connections if was chosen tbh. So Good choice for red.
Less threatening 😂😂, the red makes him look like a menace even when calm.
Red is perfect, it signals Warning/Danger which fits well
Red as the Blood spiller suits him more.
in gow 1 you can go to the 'character graveyard' and find blue marks kratos along with different scarped character models.
Also, the most recognizable Spartans (Zack Snyder’s ‘300’) wore red capes
I think this was a smart change on their part. After all blue represents calmness, serenity and intelligence. But red represents Blood, anger and rage. I think the ladder definitely represents the ghost of sparta way better.
The change to red is a good call.
He looks legendary with red mark
Blue wouldn’t take away how menacing/badass he is!
Blue fits great in nordic siege🥶 we will love to see Loki's or atreus all in blue marks
Red fits it’s so much better and then saying he did it for his brother with the same marks made it better
I think something that's more interesting was when they first were developing the game. creating the character before they even got to kratos it was so open that the main character before kratos could have been a woman, a woman with chains, a man with heavy armor, a samurai with a child in his backpack ,like lone Wolf and cub . the way to fail or harm the character essentially was to attack the baby on his back thus you feeling the mission so many iterations of the character was made before we got to the finished product. Developers didn't even know they were going to create a game on Greek mythology till the latest developments.
Weird you didn’t get any footage of the fully fleshed out model of this Kratos in some bonus content from the original God of War game
The barbarian looks like Arthur Morgan dressing as Kratos lol
The blue made him looks like “God of the last airbend War”
