    I agree with the “first luxury watch being a mistake”. I bought a Datejust thunderbird 16264 and while it was a beautiful and extremely comfortable, it just didn’t fit my style so I sold it. Felt it was too flashy for me. I bought a Speedy and that one gets much more wrist time.

    One of the best SOTC videos I've seen. Collecting from the heart with fashion practicality. Sometimes I feel that some watch CZcamsrs have so many watches come through their hands and can jump straight on their next whim that they lose touch with the joy of owning and wearing a personal watch collection.

    Great looking collection that is very versatile. I think a bit of colour could be introduced though! Maybe blue? The micro brand Lorier has some interesting options at a smaller size. For a true minimalist design, nomos or junghans are worth looking at. The junghans max bill chronoscope is legendary for its design. I think it would definitely suit your style.

    Loved the collection review Brock! I have to agree that the Explorer is pretty much perfect (as much as that’s possible for a watch). You’re right, any of us pretending to know what we will think or feel 10 years down the line are fooling ourselves, BUT I’ve owned the 214270 (the 39 mm version) for about a year, and it’s pretty much like taking a valium for wanting more watches.

      @@JonGH33 Yeh, that's a thing for sure. but stepping into a smaller and reduced collection simplifies your life, IMO. I spent far too much time obsessing about details in $500 watches. Looking back, it was kind of a waste of my time - and I'm a big watch lover. Buying watch after watch confused various aspects of my interest (wearing a watch), or it wasn't as pointed as I'd like it to be, continually trying to discover what was right for me. My sub and grand seiko will do everything better than any of the watches that I've ever owned, in my experience. And it's now about piece of mine. I don't buy almost the same seiko as the other seiko I own, anymore.

    I completely get the field watch desire. Beyond my Swatch watches as a kid, my first "real" Swiss watches as a college student started with a Victorinox (quartz) field/officer type watch, and I got another 7 years later (19 years later it still works great!). I got suckered into fashion watches for a while after that, unfortunately. I have a deep desire for an Explorer, and am thinking that may be what I target for my milestone birthday in 2 years. I would prefer the latest 39mm, because that size fits my 7.25" wrist better.

      Ok... I will point out something about that Hamilton. Crystal is very reflective and can get on your nerves. If it was flat it would be less reflective, I mean reflective in one angle, but it is doomed and reflective all over all the time.
      Crown is not screwed in, so water resistance is questionable. If it's for the every day in the office its fine, but summer vacation ehh.
      Manual wind is cool, but for a month. Then you start forgetting to wind, and you then have a stopped watch.
      Lume is also feeble.
      Its a cool watch, thin, 38mm, history Vietnam, but really its not...very modern and weak.
      For 500$ you can go better.

    Just literally started my watch collection. My first watch hasn’t even arrived yet. Seiko srpj11 is on its way (black on black phantom). I already have an eye for the khaki field mechanical (white dial) then next on my list is a Junghans form C. And lastly a Rolex OP !

    I absolutely adore your watch collection. especially since I am daily waring the Hamilton Khaki King Automatic (i really need the day/date function)

    This is crazy. I got into watches a few months ago and I'm thinking of starting my collection with either a seiko 5 or a Hamilton Khaki just like yours!! Also my dream watch is the Explorer as well!
    So exciting to find my taste for watches on someone else.

    Cool collection. Nobody really needs a watch these days anymore. It's an emotional thing and it's all about emotions and memories. Prices don't matter - what matters is what the watch means to you. The most important watches in my collection are those with the lowest price tag - gifts from family members to special milestones in my early life. The fun fact is that those watches fueled the love for watches.

    That's a very solid collection that covers a lot of bases. Have you considered adding a stylish chronograph to the mix?

    • @BrockMcGoff
      @BrockMcGoff  Před 3 lety +1

      I’ve thought about a Speedy Reduced, but it’s still a bit large for my wrist.

      @halfpastblog Před 3 lety +1

      @@BrockMcGoff That would be a great one. Perhaps a chronograph by Baltic or Lorier might tempt you. The movement won't be to Omega spec but neither is the price. They are in the 38mm range. 👍

    The Modest Man: You collect the watches but they're also collecting you.
    My high ass: Whoa dude!
    No really, that is a great way to put it.

    My first luxury watch is also a Datejust 36mm circa 1985. I still love it; however, my Tudor Blackbay 58 hasn't left my wrist since I bought it last year. My next purchase? Perhaps a JLC or a Cartier? I love traveling, I work in the aviation industry and I was born and raised in the same State as Alberto Santos Dumont. I turn 40 in March (seems to be a milestone for many. A Cartier makes a lot of sense but I love JLC...

    Very interesting and nice collection, all the pieces are very beautyful and with lot of history, maybe the next could be some leather band luxury pieces as Patek Philippe Calatrava, or Vacheron Constantine, luxurious but yet not crazy expensive.

    Great video Brock! I thought you just got the Seiko SARB033? Definitely a beautiful and classic timepiece especially for us small wrist individuals. Did you end up getting rid of it?

  • @itamaradio
    @itamaradio Před 3 lety

    This is the perfect "small wrist" watch collection. They all look perfect on your wrist. But maybe too perfect.
    Except for the Citizen quartz dress watch your dad gave you, i didn't feel any uniqueness in this collection. It feels like a "check all the boxes" collection. Of course But when i think about it, if the watches look good it should matter what i think and how popular these watches are.

    Had that 36mm Bambino! Though having a 7.2in wrist I wanted something a bit bigger. The 36mm dial wasn't even the main issue, the 17mm highly tapering strap kinda ruined it for me. I tried squeezing in some 18mm straps in it which looked much better on me! But just didn't quite click with it. Still my favourite Bambino, it looks amazing, much classier than the 40.5mm ones imo

    That Explorer I is beautiful. I think it’s going to be my next purchase. I own the Explorer II 16570 but feel the dial is a bit too busy because of the the GMT hand (was my first Rolex purchase).
