The last time I ever saw a lawn mower with that kind of starter was when I was eight years old and living in Greencastle, Indiana back in 1976. My dad had acquired a lawn mower with that from someone who let him use his garden and my mom and dad had bought a farm from someone the previous year and the old owners had left a lawn mower with that type of starter behind. I never was sure of what ever became of them though.
Thanks dude! We had one in our family when I was a kid in the 70’s and it wasn’t in as good condition as yours but it always started no matter how much we prayed! That body is like 7 sheets of 10 gauge sheet metal and the engine is cast iron. To an 8 year old kid who had to use it to hustle up some money it weighed 150 pounds! I look on e-Bay for one just to have for nostalgia.
Now that I see this I remember a few of them as a kid. I'm surprised it did not catch on better, it seems easier than traditional pull start. I also love the simplicity of early mowers - nice
Grandfather had one of those. I still have the crank part. Surprised the safety police haven't confiscated it. No flywheel brake, no lever bar to kill the engine etc. Runs good.
One of my uncles had such a mower. It was purple and it ran well. He bought lots of things from Ward. Their tools, tires, and appliances were good. Airline!
Wow. My dad had that same lawn mower when was I a kid! He got it out of the dump for free and fixed the carb.I mowed our a lawn a lot of times with that old thing.
I learned a whole new language as a kid watching my Dad trying to start one of these! Sonofa b%@^! He never could start it the first time, even though it was only 5-7 years old at that time.
My dad had one that you just crank and fold it over , it had a tab that triggered the spring , no switch . I don’t know how many times I was summoned to cut the grass that wouldn’t grow . ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Fast foward today at 88 years young , he’s still mowing the same lawn only it’s 10 times as nice .
I had one of these when I was about 15 (about 1994) Not sure how we got it since these are hella old mowers. But I was like the old man in a Christmas story. I cussed so damn much at that *%&@#£!!!!!
Just bought one of those engines on eBay from 1965. Engine looks barely used. Guess we'll find out how it runs when it arrives. It's got the same Powr Kraft logo on the shroud and all, probably off the same model of mower.
Andy Peterson If that bothers you check out “Uncle Tony’s Garage” that guy works on fuel lines and carburetors while smoking. In fact I don’t think there is a video that has him NOT smoking a cigarette lol
My father worked for wards till 1988. We had that mower! Love it
When I was a kid my dad bought one had a lot of fun cutting the grass. They sure were a good lawnmower.

I'm 13, my grandad had one I'm wanting one to LOL!

My dad had one just like this and it was wonderful! He bought it so my mom could start the push mower with no help....lol!
Grandfather had one of those. I still have the crank part. Surprised the safety police haven't confiscated it. No flywheel brake, no lever bar to kill the engine etc. Runs good.
They need to make more of these or start making them again, my mom isn’t strong enough to do the pull start

Had that exact same MW Powr-Kraft mower only with the recoil pull starter instead of the wind up starter. Always loved those wind-up impulse starters!
My dad had a brown Sears Craftsman lawn mower with a wind up starter back in the 1960s.
Thanks for your video. I forgot all about that ratchet style starter. Have not seen one since the late 70's.
Nice to see people keeping some of the oldies running and working.
That's a neat one...never seen that Knob set up before....
I had one of those in the 80's. sure saved blisters on my hand from pull starting one.

Thank you for the memories I remember these when I was a kid in the 1970s
I remember these. Very cool.
We had this one too. I always thought it was cool to not have to pull start. I was only 4 years old, tho.

The awesom memories with my dad

Use to have a '66 model WM like this one when I was kid. Only difference was it was self propelled.
People will discover videos of this machine hundreds of years from now & wonder how such advanced automation was lost to history.
All I remember was crank.... sputter.... crank.... Sputter.... ruined a happy childhood... Lol
Had the same exact one when I was growing up...
dude this is awesome.

That's awesome
I love it...Thank u..
Far superior to a pull string.
Hi C. Twigg. Very cool mower! Did these ever have bags with them? I am interested in purchasing one for my yard. Thank you for sharing!
Mine broke this summer. It's the crank mechanism that broke.I really hate to buy a new mower.Wonder if it can be fixed cheaply
This looks to be an early 1965 model. The engine model number should be 82906 type 0141-01.
Run it wide open
I'm likely going to marry one of them (Roberts-Montgomery) & they like me because I'm into that mower stuff !!!!
First I'm seen one, I was born in 1963.
where can I buy one at I got an old mower I want a top like that for use to have one when I was a kid
Why don't they make lawnmowers that start with a crank anymore? This looks way easier than the pull-string.
Because they wear out so much quicker and in a lot more ways than a oull start can. Pullstarts are cheaper to produce too
Because the springs in the crank would break and cut off peoples fingers, at least that's what my dad told me.
Is the deck aluminum? Magnesium?
What is the mode number of this one?
How much$$
Are you that much of an addict that you can't film a video without a cigarette in your hand?
