We bought a CHEAP 80's KAWASAKI Mini Bike... Will it Run and Ride Again?

- Ike bought a barn find mini bike powered by a Kawasaki FA130! We've never seen a factory Kawasaki Mini Bike before, and in today's episode we try to get the bike running and riding again. The mini bike's carburetor was frozen, fuel tank rusty, and the rear wheel stuck, so we installed a new chain and rebuilt the rear axle assembly, installed a brand new 22mm Mikuni carburetor and fuel system, and we took it around the CarsandCameras Grand Prix!

I dig the 3 wide race view, you should do a Green box around whoever is in 1st, so we can identify overtaking, but it's a lot of fun to watch
Green 1st yellow 2nd red 3rd.
Agreed. Loved the split view and the build! Maybe just sample sound from whoever is in first at a time. All three bikes and voices at the same time was slightly hard to follow.
@@clm107 Agreed 100%
John , Kawasaki makes it's own engines and they are far better engines than briggs or Kohler , John Deere even uses Kawasaki on their premium equipment and they are not cheap , top notch engines !
I wouldn’t say all of that about a Briggs there pretty good
Yeah these guys(well Ike especially, the others are young so they kinda get a pass) are dumb. Kawasaki is one of the largest producers of small engines in the world, but of course they buy blocks off a little American company to rebrand fur minibikes🙄. That like saying oh look, This bmw v8 looks very similar to a Mercedes v8 so BMW must be rebadging them...... It's just another flathead small engine built by Kawasaki.
i sell country clipper mowers and the kawasakis are the go to engine for sure, the kohlers nowadays are pretty good too, some of our models u can choose either
Yeah, there is no way the Kawasaki engine is just a rebadged B&S. Kawasaki makes top notch utility engines.
@@gabewest305 true, Briggs are good engines but Kawasaki had spin on oil filters and full pressure lubrication long before. On our Scag walk behind mowers the kaw outlasted briggs or kohler 2 to 1.
Oh, I am ALL about the Rokon. A 2WD motorcycle to which you can fit a 3pt hitch? Yeah, man!
I found a rokon trailbreaker 2006 on the curb back in 2017 still have it
@@flipjunk1998 OMG. That's bonkers.
Wouldn't mind seeing Charles Briggs collection
I agree, when he said he has a bunch I was starting to drool.
There's a guy with a channel called Charger Miles. He has 350 of them!
I'm hip we need to see why Charles is so knowledgable about shit. He and Chuck must have a treasure chest of small engine stuff. LETS GO SHOPPING THERE!!!
Don’t underestimate an under powered mini bike. They’re a ton of fun!
I got a dr125 that isnt starting
@@That70sford ok.
I know right
I have a 1999 z50r it is so fun
Mini bikes are fun but I want a mini cup car
Definite improvement with the lap times being shown simultaneously. Good idea that you should keep in.
i would like to see 2 screens on the bottom and 1 on the top so we can have a bigger picture of all 3 lol
I agree, but I kinda wish they were I but bigger, but it still works for me
works great audio little hard to follow listening to all 3 at the same time. maybe subtitles under their video feed
Those Kawasaki small engines are bulletproof. I have had many walk behind mowers and the ol Kaw still runs great and has clean oil every time i change it. Going on 30 years and mostly every part except the engine on the Exmark has been repaired.
They sure are, that's what makes John deere yard equipment so desirable
We had em on Scag walk behind mowers and they outlasted the kohler and briggs engines 2 to 1.
I'm looking forward to how you use that old 2-stroke Jacobsen motor, haven't seen one of those in decades. Also anxious to see that ROKON roll!
Please make a vertical shaft go kart!that would be awesome
Yeah, a lot of older riding mowers have a rear axle with a pulley on top for a belt drive. Switch out the pulley for a sprocket, and rock n roll.
I like the head to head videos in this mew format, keeps me from fast-forwarding all the heats.
I like it, Charles has a family to think about, so he did an excellent job and didn't push too hard, risking an injury would have been a bad idea. Ike and John were racing all out and it was very exciting.
It's so great to see you guys in the new shop, with a nice clean space, for now. I know you guys don't want to "shed" your roots, but the upgrade is going to make bigger, better projects possible.
I love when y'all bring stuff back from the dead man
That 3-Way was sick and loved that you left in all 3 audios with commentary!
That big-wheeled bike, I seriously cannot wait to see THAT brought back to life!!! That looks incredibly crazy... :D
Rokons can go just about anywhere you want. Really awesome 2wd bikes
That split view was pretty awesome.
Split screen on the timed lap is a good idea. 👍
The three way split screen was great!
The side-by-side race / time run is the best! Keep doing this.
I like seeing all the runs at once. I think you all three doing a commentary over it would be cool.
I loved the 3 way split screen! That's a keeper.
My favorite part of this video - Ike is back! I know he's not 100%, but you wouldn't have known it in this video.
The 3 screen lap was cool. More mini truck soon please
I absoulty loved the ending with the side by side race footage! Can you continue to do all the future race laps like this!! Great video!
I have that motor. Came with one of my mini bikes before I did Predator swap. I have no spark. And my carb and tank are garbage. Yet its in my shed because I hate throwing away a motor.
Absolutely love the new shop, something I learned from my shop is metal dust from grinding, cutting, and Welding is an absolute pain in the ass to get off cars in when you think you’re actually removing it you’re actually scratching them. Saw the E 46 in the background… just some advice from experience and a car that needed paint restoration
Off to watch the video. Left a 👍
The live lap time between the three of you was good hope you keep that going
You Gotta Love Them Old Mini Bikes. Lots Of Fun
The Kawasaki FA130D engine has a slide-valve (L-head) design and crankshaft made of heat-treated ductile iron integrated with counter-balance weights and camshaft drive gear. The piston is made of hard-chrome plated aluminum alloy and equipped with two compression rings including silicon carbide plated top ring and one oil control ring. Main bearings are: on P.T.O. side, ball bearing; on magneto side, lead bronze sintered alloy plain bearing with steel back metal. 3.1 HP
I like the side by side camera shots. Please do more of these.
Absolutely love the side by side camera edit. More PLEASE!
Charles going on the Sunday stroll during the race lol love it
hey guys,big fan of the show,really enjoy it!--if you're interested,i have a kawasaki operators hand book for that model of motor--(actually,the fa76--the fa130,and the fa 210)--in english,french and german,no less!--i think i have a pull start as well---i recently acquired 2 stomper minibike atc's(like an honda atc--one with the kawasaki,and one with a tecumseh)---let me know,and we'll work something out---steve in seattle
This was a fun video reminiscent of the old days. I also liked the overlay showing the real time positions. Concerning the manufacturer of the engine, it is a real kawasaki. They weren't popular but had more torque than the comparable Briggs.
That bike sounds great. Hey I noticed earlier today those old-school frame cable clamps are available at OMB Warehouse. The little muffler is nice; I have one on my Stage 1 RB200. It's actually an RLV Mini 91. With a shorty header it's a nice way to have an exhaust that doesn't stick out of the frame and without having too-little back pressure. The associated clamp however worked for about 20 seconds before pitching my muffler to the ground. Would not tighten enough to hold for me, despite supposedly being the correct diameter.
There is no such thing as too little back pressure. Zero exhaust pipe kills power because of no scavenging from exiting exhaust gasses. Back pressure is bad. Always bad.
@@jasonbirch1182 Excellent. I appreciate the correction :)
@@thenexthobby if you aren't clear what scavenging is. It's the mass of exhaust leaving down the pipe, the exhaust valve then closes and the the exhaust mass keeps traveling, creating a vacuum behind it. The the exhaust valve opens again and it actually help pull the exhaust out of the cylinder because of the low pressure area.
Sweet find! I think you guys are the best at finding cheap things that rip! 👍
Thats an azusa kit frame. Dime a dozen, but that kawasaki engine is pretty unique.
I can't stop chuckling between the three perspectives at one. Please keep it up!
The rokon trail breaker is one of my favorite minis. Tied with the heald bronc!
I wouldn't call those monsters "mini"!
The side by side hot lap footage is a Total Win i love it!
If y'all could have course map on the screen of the GP run with a little dot to show where you are on the course that would be sweet
Looks just like my mini bike with a tecumseh h35, and that engine looks really similar. It doesn't suffer from the usual tecumseh carb issues either
Another great video, guys. I don't care much for the all at once hot laps. I like hearing the commentary from each rider as they go and the banter between laps. Having all the laps at once makes it pretty hard to listen to each rider. It does showcase how much more John talks than the others.
Absolutely love the basic simplicity of these mini bikes. I've gotta get one, make one, or both.
Love the three window race or overlay and the simultaneous commentary. Awesome. Great idea.
Thumbs up on the race overlay! 👍
And by the way that side-by-side with the three of you doing the hot lap is completely on point. More of that!
I've been waiting for you guys to upload legends💪
I find it hilarious that, despite the visible damage that can be seen in the old airbox for the original carburetor, that this engine just said "i give nu cares in the world. i wanna run today." which honestly... Is quite a surprise for how well that engine runs as well with the new carburetor. Also that big bike will be an interesting one to see in the near future or whenever you guys do a video on it.
I've been asking y'all for YEARS for a rokon build! Get it done!
the three wide lap coverage is great
Very cool seeing you guys reanimate an old "junker". Seriously, you need a FPV pilot on your crew. The split screen was a good idea.
FPV?
@@daleosborn3729 First person View. A good example of this is a Flight Test airplane video They chase their planes with little drones to get close up video in flight. That would be pretty slick for what Cars and Cameras is doing.
@@jamesbach2021 or, GrindHardPlumbing, for example. That kid got some skills.
Like it when you drag something like the little mini bike in the shop and drive it out running perfectly. You guys are the best. Perfect trio now with the addition of Charles.
That was awesome. I love the new format!!
You two guys. And also Charles now have convinced me. I’m now the proud owner of a tillitson 212 stage one upgraded and I am currently waiting on my mm105 roller.
Great idea with the Hot Laps! But instead of each racer cam lined up in a line, have one in each corner!! Should be bigger and you can have the timer in the other corner! :)
Another great video, thanks guys, your video library is getting me through Covid lock down here in New Zealand. And I thought I would add a thumbs up for the simultaneous lap time, nice to watch and see who is ahead at different points on the track.
In theory the montage seemed like a good idea but my head hurt watching it and I ain't got three eyes!!! Can't wait for the rokon video though , keep up the good work, can't beat the thrills of a modded mini bike/quad whatever, you've inspired me 👍
Oh man, I like the simultaneous lap sequence, that’s fun!
I'm loving the simultaneous hotlap footage!!!
Pretty cool seeing a NRNR (no-run/no-roll) turn into a three way split screen hot lap on the GP (I did not know if you'd get there). I really like the three way split screen laps, just harder to keep track of where yall are with the screens being smaller. Loved Charles comment about Ike cutting the cable with a side grinder off his shoe LOL (he ain't right man). Also liked when John zoomed out from the go power sports label to the banner in the new garage...kinda cool. Great episode....looking forward to the next.
Loved the side by side video. Maybe add some markers on the course, like the orange barrels or cones, so it is easier to see as each rider passes them.
I love Kawasaki especially the klx110 it’s a machine that will run for ever I got mine built with a performance head a 134 cc bore kit and a 4th gear mod it’s so powerful
The old rebuilds have to be one of my favorite episodes y’all do!
The side by side race was pretty intense! Very close race!
The new racing format is awesome and tells us a lot about the racers.
1) Charles has a strong will to live and makes smart decisions.
2) To Ike winning is everything. (Rumer has it he lost 1 time, but no cameras, no loss)
3) John is tired of losing by a fraction of a second to Ike, and is fine tuning his skills for total world domination.
I do love the side by side laps shown. Great idea!
I like the head to head split screen
The footage at the end was good and kept me guessing who would win up until the end.
This channel never fails to amaze me, every project I see is incredible and I inspire to one day do projects as cool as theirs
Thank you!
I'd like to see this rare engine restored this winter
I would recommend having the screen in fourths, with the three videos in three quarters, and the time in the last quarter
Im SOOOOO PUMPED to see the rocon build!!! Please do it soon!!!!
I’m glad you were able to bring this mini bike back to life. It does give a new meaning to mini, and for the amount of horsepower, it looks like it really scoots!
Nice to see your in the new shop !!!!
Love the great new projects u guy do
loved it ,great stuff. thanks
I bet you guys are gonna have fun with that little Jacobsen, I’ve got the same model and it would probably be right at home on a little minibike!
As always great content guys!!!!!
A friend when I was a kid back in the late 70's had one of these. I had forgot all about it until you mentioned the light. That reminded of the bike and that it was a Kawi. My friends dad owned a dealership that sold Kawasaki. You are triggering memory cells that have not be accessed in decades :)
I have worked on Kawasaki small engine flat heads before. They run awesome. Smoother too. If you tear it down you will notice the casting and machining is way better than Briggs or Tecumseh.
I got to have an engine of those models- kawasaki fa210 for my time there was no one to catch it starting and at high revs ... wow that engine brings me many memories
it would be sick to see you guys do a stretched and lowered street mini bike, I think the ideas you guys have could make a bike like that something really cool.
That C-10 looks so aweaome sittin back there! I hope theres more content of it on here soon.
Loved the time trial of all 3! Great addition!
I just love the side-by-side racing thing! Got to do it more often! Great video guys.
The 3way view of the race is awesome
Thank you Go Power Sports!
Loved the 3 way camera view. That was awesome
The Mario kart style replay is pretty sweet! It may not work for every vehicle but definitely worked here. Charles really rounding out the chemistry🤘 loving the evolution of the channel!
LOVE YOUR vids keep posting
That Jr dragster in the background 😍😍🔥🔥🔥🔥
CONGRATS ON 1 mill guys❤️❤️❤️
Awesome job guys. Looking forward to the rokon build and hot lap. Oh yeah really loved the triple sceen hot lap. That should be something you do from now on.
Fun stuff. Those old mini’s are a hoot to work on. The off-the-wall comments by Charles cracks me up… when he said his drill may have more power than the mini. 👍😀
Fun episode. Thanks 👍
Loving your vids brilliant! ! Also loving the E46 in the background! !!
The head to head to head race view was cool.
I have seen A lot of your episodes but htis is one of your finest!
-Love it!
IIRC, Jacobsen 2-strokes were actually made by Tecumseh. That, and aside from the big, commercial mowers powered by Kubota diesels, Jacobsen tractors were powered by Kohler engines. I still remember how the 7-hp in our '57 "Jake" Chief 100 (Never saw a garden tractor with "finned" fenders, before or sine!) would yank the front wheels under full throttle... even in 3rd! That, and how the heavy mower deck, with it's synchronized blades, and arbors that could easily be lubed with a grease gun. After which, it'd literally "sing"... and cut the grass like a Norelco!😉
